Howard, Lord Dunsany or\nE.R. Eddison.\nHowever, this makes the book much more readable than\nother occult novels such as\nA Dweller on Two Planets,\nor Unveiled Mysteries.\nEven when Selestor is going on about mineralogy, it still sounds a bit\nlike an oriental opium dream.\nSelestor's Atlanteans have advanced technology, including some kind of\nsuper-telescope which allows them to observe and even hear battles on the\nplanet Mars.\nSelestor provides much detail about the culture and history of the Atlanteans,\nincluding their laws, industries, and science.\nThey are somehow contemporaries of Vikings and Mayans\n(or their prehistoric predecessors).\nThey even engage in a spectacular naval battle with the Northmen,\nsimilar to an episode in Cutcliffe Hyne's\nThe Lost Continent.\nThe author, Clara Iza von Ravn, is a bit of a mystery, at least\non the Internet.\nShe is often listed in bibliographies as one 'Mrs. Tibbets.'\nShe appears to be an American citizen living on the west coast.\nSo it is likely that the 'Baroness' title she is given on the back cover\nblurb is probably an affectation.\nI can establish that she was born in 1870 and died in 1942,\nand wrote one other book with an occult theme,\nThe Scribe of a Soul\n(Seattle, Washington: Denny-Coryell Company) in 1901.","title":"Selestor's Men of Atlantis Index","type":"page"}
