Compare Mar 9:15; Mar 16:5, Mar 16:6.\nPrayed (\u03c0\u03c1\u03bf\u03c3\u03b7\u03cd\u03c7\u03b5\u03c4\u03bf)\nImperfect tense: began to pray.\nHeavy (\u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u03b1\u03b2\u03b1\u03c1\u03c5\u03bd\u03cc\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd\u03bf\u03b9)\nLit., weighed down: very heavy.\nIt is enough (\u1f00\u03c0\u03ad\u03c7\u03b5\u03b9)\nPeculiar to Mark. In this impersonal sense the word occurs nowhere else in the New Testament. Expositors are utterly at sea as to its meaning.\nOne of the twelve\nSee on Mat 26:47; as also on multitude.\nToken (\u03c3\u03cd\u03c3\u03c3\u03b7\u03bc\u03bf\u03bd)\nA later Greek compound used only by Mark in this passage. Compare \u03c3\u03b7\u03bc\u03b5\u1fd6\u03bf\u03bd, Mat 26:48. The \u03c3\u03cd\u03bd, with, gives the force of a mutual token: a concerted signal.\nKissed\nSee on Mat 26:49.\nThe servant\nSee on Mat 26:51.\nEar (\u1f60\u03c4\u03ac\u03c1\u03b9\u03bf\u03bd)\nA word found only here and at Joh 18:10. See on Mat 26:55, and Mar 11:17.\nLinen cloth (\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd\u03b4\u03cc\u03bd\u03b1)\nThe probable derivation is from \u1f38\u03bd\u03b4\u03cc\u03c2, an Indian: India being the source from which came this fine fabric used for wrapping dead bodies, and in which Christ's body was enveloped. See Mat 27:59; Mar 15:46; Luk 23:53.\nPalace (\u03b1\u1f50\u03bb\u1f74\u03bd)\nRather, court, as Rev., the quadrangle round which the chambers were built. See on Mat 26:3.\nSat with (\u1f26\u03bd \u03c3\u03c5\u03b3\u03ba\u03b1\u03b8\u03ae\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd\u03bf\u03c2)\nThe verb with the participle denoting continuousness. What occurred after occurred while he was sitting. So Rev.\nServants\nRev., officers. See on Mat 5:25.\nAt the fire (\u03c0\u03c1\u1f78\u03c2 \u03c4\u1f78 \u03c6\u1ff6\u03c2)\n\u03a6\u1ff6\u03c2 is never used of the fire itself, but of the light of the fire; and this is the point to which the evangelist directs attention: that the firelight, shining on Peter's face, called forth the challenge of the maid (Mar 14:66).\nTheir witness agreed not\nPeculiar to Mark. Lit., their testimonies were not equal. Hence the difficulty of fulfilling the requirement of the law, which demanded two witnesses. See Deu 17:6; and compare Mat 18:16; Ti1 5:19; Heb 10:28.\nMade with hands\nMark adds this detail; also made without hands, and the following sentence.\nI am\nSee on Mat 26:64.\nGuilty of death\nSee on Mat 26:66.\nBuffet\nSee on Mat 26:67.\nPalms of their hands (\u1fe5\u03b1\u03c0\u03af\u03c3\u03bc\u03b1\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd)\nAn unclassical word, but used also by John (Joh 19:3). The word means blows.\nDid strike\nFollowing the old reading, \u1f14\u03b2\u03b1\u03bb\u03bb\u03bf\u03bd. The correct reading is \u1f14\u03bb\u03b1\u03b2\u03bf\u03bd, received. So Rev. Received him into custody.\nBeneath\nIn relation to the chambers round the court above.\nPorch (\u03c0\u03c1\u03bf\u03b1\u03cd\u03bb\u03b9\u03bf\u03bd)\nOnly here in New Testament.
