{"collection":"Bible & Christianity","html_url":"https://unchartedknowledge.5gfusion.net/browse/bib/kjv/pro001.htm","path":"bib/kjv/pro001.htm","source_url":"https://sacred-texts.com/bib/kjv/pro001.htm","text":"1\u00a0The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;\n \n2\u00a0To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;\n \n3\u00a0To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;\n \n4\u00a0To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.\n \n5\u00a0A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:\n \n6\u00a0To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.\n \n7\u00a0The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.\n \n8\u00a0My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:\n \n9\u00a0For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.\n \n10\u00a0My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.\n \n11\u00a0If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:\n \n12\u00a0Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:\n \n13\u00a0We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:\n \n14\u00a0Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:\n \n15\u00a0My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:\n \n16\u00a0For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.\n \n17\u00a0Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.\n \n18\u00a0And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.\n \n19\u00a0So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.\n \n20\u00a0Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:\n \n21\u00a0She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,\n \n22\u00a0How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?\n \n23\u00a0Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.\n \n24\u00a0Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;\n \n25\u00a0But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:\n \n26\u00a0I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;\n \n27\u00a0When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.\n \n28\u00a0Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:\n \n29\u00a0For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:\n \n30\u00a0They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.\n \n31\u00a0Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.\n \n32\u00a0For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.\n \n33\u00a0But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.","title":"King James Version: Proverbs: Proverbs Chapter 1","type":"page"}
