Even though it may be with pain, even though it may be with sorrow, even though he may be crying, his face in tears, he lives the holy life that is perfect & pure. This is called the individual who goes against the flow.\n\"And who is the individual who stands fast? There is the case where an individual, with the total ending of the first set of five fetters, is due to be reborn [in the Pure Abodes], there to be totally unbound, never again to return from that world. This is called the individual who stands fast.\n\"And who is the individual who has crossed over, gone beyond, who stands on firm ground: a brahmin? There is the case where an individual, through the ending of the mental fermentations, enters & remains in the fermentation-free release of awareness & release of discernment, having known & made them manifest for himself right in the here & now. This is called the individual who has crossed over, gone beyond, who stands on firm ground: a brahmin.\n\"These are the four types of individuals to be found existing in the world.\"\nPeople unrestrained\nin sensual passions,\nnot devoid\nof passion,\nindulging\nin sensuality:\nthey return to birth & aging,\nagain & again --\nseized by craving,\ngoing with the flow.\nThus the enlightened one,\nwith mindfulness here established,\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 not indulging\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 in sensuality & evil,\nthough it may be with pain,\nwould abandon sensuality.\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They call him\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 one who goes against \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 the flow.\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Whoever, \nhaving abandoned \nthe five defilements,\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 is\nperfect in training, \nnot destined to fall back,\nskilled in awareness,\nwith faculties composed:\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 he's called\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 one who stands fast \nIn one who, having known,\nqualities high & low\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 have been destroyed,\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 have gone to their end,\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 do not exist:\nHe's called\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 a master of knowledge,\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 one who has \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 fulfilled the holy life,\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 gone to the world's end, gone\nbeyond.","title":"AN IV.5: Anusota Sutta","type":"page"}
