When married, she bore one son, and he was given the name Va\u1e0d\u1e0dha. From that time she was known as Va\u1e0d\u1e0dha's mother. Hearing a Bhikkhu preach, she became a believer, and, handing her child over to her kin, she went to the Bhikkhun\u012bs, and entered the Order. The rest, not told here, may be filled in from Brother Va\u1e0d\u1e0dha's story told in the Psalms of the Elder Brethren (Ps. ccii.). Va\u1e0d\u1e0dha, to see his mother, went alone into and through the Bhikkhun\u012bs' quarters and she, saying, 'Why have you come in here alone?' admonished him as follows:\nAnd Va\u1e0d\u1e0dha, thinking, 'My mother is surely established in Arahantship,' expressed himself thus:\n| Now in good hope and faith thou speakest thus, O little mother! well I trow, for thee. Dear mother mine, no jungle bars the way. (207) | \nThen the Ther\u012b replied, showing her work was done:\nThe Brother, using her exhortation as a goad, and stimulated thereby, went to his Vih\u0101ra, and, seated in his wonted resting-place, so made insight to grow that he attained Arahantship. And reflecting in happiness on his attainment, he went to his mother, and declared his A\u00d1\u00d1\u0100:\n 304 A seaport on the north-west seaboard, the Bharoch of to-day. See J\u0101taka, iii. 188.\n \n 305 Anubr\u016bhaya=va\u1e0d\u1e0dheyy\u0101si (Commentary). The name Va\u1e0d\u1e0dha means grow, increase, develop; often applied to religious culture.\n \n 306 Vanatho. Jungle and vice are equally implied in this word. 'Poison-plants'= simply \u0100sav\u0101.\n \n 307 Va\u1e0d\u1e0dha's g\u0101th\u0101 commences with a \u015bloka to the same effect, using the same metaphor.
