{"collection":"Buddhism","html_url":"https://unchartedknowledge.5gfusion.net/browse/bud/sbe13/sbe1311.htm","path":"bud/sbe13/sbe1311.htm","source_url":"https://sacred-texts.com/bud/sbe13/sbe1311.htm","text":"THE RULES REGARDING THE SETTLEMENT OF CASES.\nHere, venerable Sirs, the seven rules regarding the settlement of cases come into recitation.\nFor the decision and settlement of cases as they from time to time arise, the Proceeding in presence1 must be performed, or the Proceeding for the consciously innocent2, or the Proceeding in the case of those who are no longer out of their mind3, or the Proceeding on confession of guilt4, or the Proceeding by majority of the chapter5, or the Proceeding for the obstinate6, or the Proceeding by covering over as with grass7.\nVenerable Sirs, the seven rules regarding the settlement of cases have been recited.\nln respect of them l ask the venerable ones, 'Are you pure in this matter?'\nA second time I ask the venerable ones, 'Are you pure in this matter?'\nA third time I ask the venerable ones, 'Are you pure in this matter?'\nThe venerable ones are pure herein. Therefore do they keep silence. Thus I understand.\nHere endeth the recitation of the Adhikarana-samathas.\nVenerable Sirs! Recited is the Introduction.\nRecited are the four P\u00e2r\u00e2gika Rules.\nRecited are the thirteen Samgh\u00e2disesa Rules.\nRecited are the two Aniyata Rules.\nRecited are the thirty Nissaggiya-P\u00e2kittiya Rules.\nRecited are the ninety-two P\u00e2kittiya Rules.\nRecited are the four P\u00e2tidesaniya Rules.\nRecited are the Sekhiya Rules.\nRecited are the seven Adhikarana-samatha Rules.\nSo much (of the words) of the Blessed One, handed down in the Suttas, embraced in the Suttas, comes into recitation every half month.
