And, so standing, Mah\u00e2-pag\u00e2pat\u00ee the Gotam\u00ee spake thus to the Blessed One: 'What course, Lord,\nshould I pursue towards these women of the S\u00e2kya clan?'\nThen the Blessed One taught Mah\u00e2-pag\u00e2pat\u00ee the Gotam\u00ee and incited her, and aroused her, and gladdened her with religious discourse; and she, so taught, incited, aroused, and gladdened, bowed down before the Blessed One, and keeping him on net right hand as she passed him, she departed thence.\nThen the Blessed One, in that connexion, delivered a religious discourse, and said to the Bhikkhus, 'I allow Bhikkhun\u00ees, O Bhikkhus, to receive the upasampad\u00e2 initiation from Bhikkhus 1.'\n2. Now those Bhikkhun\u00ees said to Mah\u00e2-pag\u00e2pat\u00ee the Gotam\u00ee: 'Neither have you received the upasampad\u00e2 initiation, nor have we; for it has thus been laid down by the Blessed One: \"Bhikkhun\u00ees are to be initiated by Bhikkhus.\"'\nThen Mah\u00e2-pag\u00e2pat\u00ee the Gotam\u00ee went to the venerable \u00c2nanda, and [repeated their words to him].
