{"collection":"Buddhism","html_url":"https://unchartedknowledge.5gfusion.net/browse/bud/snp/snp4-2.htm","path":"bud/snp/snp4-2.htm","source_url":"https://sacred-texts.com/bud/snp/snp4-2.htm","text":"Staying attached to the cave,\ncovered heavily over,\na person plunged into confusion\nis far from seclusion --\nfor sensual pleasures\nare not lightly let go.\nThose chained by desire,\nbound by becoming's allure,\naren't freed by others,\nand find no easy release on their own.\nIntent, in front or behind,\non hunger for sensual pleasures\nhere or before -- \n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 greedy\nfor sensual pleasures,\nbusy, deluded, ungenerous,\nhaving entered the out-of-tune way,\nthey -- impelled into pain -- lament:\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \"What will we be\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 when we pass on from here?\"\nSo a person should train\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 right here & now.\nWhatever you know\nas out-of-tune in the world,\ndon't, for its sake, act out-of-tune,\nfor that life, say the prudent,\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 is short.\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I see them,\nin the world, floundering around,\npeople immersed in craving\nfor states of becoming.\nBase people moan in the mouth of death,\ntheir craving, for states of becoming and not-,\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 unallayed.\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 See them,\nfloundering in their sense of mine,\nlike fish in the puddles\nof a dried-up stream -- \nand, seeing this,\nlive with no mine,\nnot forming attachment\nfor states of becoming.\nSubdue desire for both sides,\ncomprehending sensory contact,\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 with no greed.\nDoing nothing for which\nhe himself\nwould reprove himself,\nthe prudent person doesn't adhere\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 to what's seen,\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 to what's heard.\nComprehending perception,\nnot stuck on possessions,\na sage would cross over the flood.\nThen, with arrow removed,\nliving heedfully, he longs for neither\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 this world\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 nor the next.","title":"Sn IV.2: Guhatthaka Sutta","type":"page"}
