And He Himself testifieth, 1659 saying, \u201cBehold, to-day 1660 will be as a thousand years.\u201d 1661 Therefore, my children, in six days, that is, in six thousand years, all things will be finished. \u201cAnd He rested on the seventh day.\u201d This meaneth: when His Son, coming [again], shall destroy the time of the wicked man, 1662 and judge the ungodly, and change the-sun, and the moon, 1663 and the stars, then shall He truly rest on the seventh day. Moreover, He says, \u201cThou shalt sanctify it with pure hands and a pure heart.\u201d If, therefore, any one can now sanctify p. 147 the day which God hath sanctified, except he is pure in heart in all things, 1664 we are deceived. 1665 Behold, therefore: 1666 certainly then one properly resting sanctifies it, when we ourselves, having received the promise, wickedness no longer existing, and all things having been made new by the Lord, shall be able to work righteousness. 1667 Then we shall be able to sanctify it, having been first sanctified ourselves. 1668 Further, He says to them, \u201cYour new moons and your Sabbath I cannot endure.\u201d 1669 Ye perceive how He speaks: Your present Sabbaths are not acceptable to Me, but that is which I have made, [namely this,] when, giving rest to all things, I shall make a beginning of the eighth day, that is, a beginning of another world. Wherefore, also, we keep the eighth day with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead. 1670 And 1671 when He had manifested Himself, He ascended into the heavens.\nCod. Sin. reads \u201cbecause,\u201d but this is corrected to \u201cmoreover.\u201d\n146:1655 146:1656\nJer. 17:24, 25.\n146:1657\nGen. ii. 2. The Hebrew text is here followed, the Septuagint reading \u201csixth\u201d instead of \u201cseventh.\u201d\n146:1658 146:1659 146:1660\nCod. Sin. reads, \u201cThe day of the Lord shall be as a thousand years.\u201d\n146:1661 146:1662\nCod. Sin. seems properly to omit \u201cof the wicked man.\u201d\n146:1663\nCod. Sin. places stars before moon.\n147:1664\nCod. Sin. reads \u201cagain,\u201d but is corrected as above.\n147:1665\nThe meaning is, \u201cIf the Sabbaths of the Jews were the true Sabbath, we should have been deceived by God, who demands pure hands and a pure heart.\u201d\u2014Hefele.\n147:1666\nCod. Sin. has, \u201cBut if not.\u201d Hilgenfeld\u2019s text of this confused passage reads as follows: \u201cWho then can sanctify the day which God has sanctified, except the man who is of a pure heart? We are deceived (or mistaken) in all things. Behold, therefore,\u201d etc.\n147:1667\nCod. Sin. reads, \u201cresting aright, we shall sanctify it, having been justified, and received the promise, iniquity no longer existing, but all things having been made new by the Lord.\u201d\n147:1668\nCod.
