My child, him that speaketh to thee the word of God remember night and day; and thou shalt honour him as the Lord; 2410 for in the place whence lordly rule is uttered, 2411 there is the Lord. 2. Be not a stretcher forth of the hands to receive and a drawer of them back to give. 2415 6. If thou hast aught, through thy hands thou shalt give ransom for thy sins. 2416 7. Thou shalt not hesitate to give, nor murmur when thou givest; for thou shalt know who is the good repayer of the hire. 8. Thou shalt not turn away from him that is in want, but thou shalt share all things with thy brother, and shalt not say that they are thine own; for if ye are partakers in that which is immortal, how much more in things which are mortal? 2417 9. Thou shalt not remove thy hand from thy son or from thy daughter, but from their youth shalt teach them the fear of God. 2418 10. Thou shalt not enjoin aught in thy bitterness upon thy bondman or maidservant, who hope in the same God, lest ever they shall fear not God who is over both; 2419 for he cometh not to call according to the outward appearance, but unto them whom the Spirit hath prepared. 11. And ye bondmen shall be subject to your 2420 masters as to a type of God, in modesty and fear. 2421 12. Thou shalt hate all hypocrisy and everything which is not pleasing to the Lord. 13. Do thou in no wise forsake the commandments of the Lord; but thou shalt keep what thou hast received, neither adding thereto nor taking away therefrom. 2422 14. In the church 2423 thou shalt acknowledge thy transgressions, and thou shalt not come near for thy prayer 2424 with an evil conscience. 2425 This is the way of life. 2426\nThis chapter, with the exception of a few clauses and words, is found in Apostolic Constitutions, vii. 9\u201317. There are verbal variations, but the order is exact. In Barnabas not so much of the matter is found. There is, however, even greater verbal agreement in many cases, though the order is quite different. Two important clauses (verses 8, 14) find an exact parallel only in Barnabas. One phrase is peculiar to the Teaching; see ver. 14.\n378:2410\nComp. Heb. xiii. 7. In Apostolic Constitutions there is a transposition of words.\n378:2411\nSchaff: \u201cThe Lordship is spoken of.\u201d Apostolic Constitutions, \u201cwhere the doctrine concerning God is,\u201d etc.\n378:2412\nOr, \u201cacquiesce in\u201d (Apostolic Constitutions).\n378:2413\nSome read \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03ae\u03c3\u03b5\u03b9\u03c2, \u201cmake,\u201d as in Apostolic Constitutions and Barnabas, instead of \u03c0\u03bf\u03b8\u03ae\u03c3\u03b5\u03b9\u03c2, Codex.\n378:2414\nComp. Ecclus. i. 28. The verse occurs in Barnabas; and in Apostolic Constitutions \u201cin thy prayer\u201d is inserted, which is probably the sense here.\n378:2415\nEcclus. iv. 31. The Greek word \u03c3\u03c5\u03c3\u03c0\u1ff6\u03bd occurs here and in Barnabas, but not in Apostolic Constitutions.\n378:2416\nApostolic Constitutions adds, in explanation, Prov. xvi. 6.\n378:2417\nComp. Acts iv. 32; Rom. xv. 27. The latter half of the verse is in Barnabas (not in Apostolic Constitutions), but with the substitution of \u201cincorruptible\u201d and \u201ccorruptible.\u201d\n378:2418\nComp. Eph. vi. 4.\n378:2419\nComp. Eph. vi. 9; Col. iv. 1.\n378:2420\nCodex reads \u201cour;\u201d editors correct to \u201cyour. \u201d\n378:2421\nComp. Eph. vi. 5; Col. iii. 22.\n378:2422 378:2423\n\u201cIn the congregation;\u201d i.e., assembly of believers. This phrase is omitted in both Barnabas and Apostolic Constitutions. Comp.
