Like that in the apostle: For all things are naked and open in His eyes.\u201d 3643\nThe eyelids of the Lord\u2014hidden spiritual mysteries in the Divine precepts. In the Psalm: \u201cHis eyelids question, that is prove, the children of men.\u201d 3644\nThe smelling of the Lord\u2014His delight in the prayers or works of the saints. In Genesis: \u201cAnd the Lord smelled an odour of sweetness.\u201d 3645\nThe mouth of the Lord\u2014His Son, or word addressed to men. In the Psalm: \u201cMy tongue is a pen.\u201d 3648\nThe face of the Lord\u2014His manifestation. In Exodus, \u201cMy face shall go before thee;\u201d 3649 and in the prophet, \u201cThe face of the Lord divided them.\u201d 3650\nThe word of the Lord\u2014His Son. In the Psalm: \u201cMy heart hath uttered a good word.\u201d 3651\nThe arm of the Lord\u2014His Son, by whom He hath wrought all His works. In the prophet Isaiah: \u201cAnd to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?\u201d 3652\nThe right hand of the Lord\u2014that is, His Son; as also above in the Psalm: \u201cThe right hand of the Lord hath done valiantly.\u201d 3653\nThe right hand of the Lord\u2014electio omnis. As in Deuteronomy: \u201cIn His right hand is a fiery law.\u201d 3654\nThe wings of the Lord\u2014Divine protection. In the Psalm: \u201cIn the shadow of Thy wings will I hope.\u201d 3655\nThe shoulder of the Lord\u2014the Divine power, by which He condescends to carry the feeble. In Deuteronomy: \u201cHe took them up, and put them on His shoulders.\u201d 3656\nThe hand of the Lord\u2014Divine operation. p. 761 In the prophet: \u201cHave not my hands made all these things?\u201d 3657\nThe finger of the Lord\u2014the Holy Spirit, by whose operation the tables of the law in Exodus are said to have been written; 3658 and in the Gospel: \u201cIf I by the finger of God cast out demons\u201d 3659\nThe fingers of the Lord\u2014The lawgiver Moses, or the prophets. In the Psalm: \u201cI will regard the heavens,\u201d that is, the books of the Law and the Prophets, \u201cthe works of Thy fingers.\u201d 3660\nThe wisdom of the Lord\u2014His Son. In the apostle: \u201cChrist the power of God, and the wisdom of God;\u201d 3661 and in Solomon: \u201cThe wisdom of the Lord reacheth from one end to the other mightily.\u201d 3662\nThe womb of the Lord\u2014the hidden recess of Deity out of which He brought forth His Son. In the Psalm: \u201cOut of the womb, before Lucifer, have I borne Thee.\u201d 3663\nThe feet of the Lord\u2014His immoveableness and eternity. In the Psalm: \u201cAnd thick darkness was under His feet.\u201d 3664\nThe throne of the Lord\u2014angels, or saints, or simply sovereign dominion. 3665 In the Psalm: \u201cThy throne, O God, is for ever and ever.\u201d 3666\nSeat\u2014the same as above, angels or saints, because the Lord sits upon these. In the Psalm: \u201cThe Lord sat upon His holy seat.\u201d 3667\nThe descent of the Lord\u2014His visitation of men. As in Micah: \u201cBehold, the Lord shall come forth from His place; He shall come down trampling under foot the ends of the earth.\u201d 3668 Likewise in a bad sense. In Genesis: \u201cThe Lord came down to see the tower.\u201d 3669\nThe ascent of the Lord\u2014the raising up of man, who is taken from earth to heaven. In the Psalm: \u201cWho ascendeth above the heaven of heavens to the east.\u201d 3670\nThe standing of the Lord\u2014the patience of the Deity, by which He bears with sinners that they may come to repentance. As in Habakkuk: \u201cHe stood and measured the earth; 3671 and in the Gospel: \u201cJesus stood, and bade him be called,\u201d 3672 that is, the blind man.\nThe transition of the Lord\u2014His assumption of our flesh, through which by His birth, His death, His resurrection, His ascent into heaven, He made transitions, so to say. In the Song of Songs: \u201cBehold, He cometh, leaping upon the mountains, bounding over the hills.\u201d 3673\nThe going 3674 of the Lord\u2014His coming or visitation. In the Psalm.\nThe way of the Lord\u2014the operation of the Deity. As in Job, in speaking of the devil: \u201cHe is the beginning of the ways of the Lord.\u201d 3675\nAgain: The ways of the Lord\u2014His precepts. In Hosea: \u201cFor the ways of the Lord are straight, and the just shall walk in them.\u201d 3676\nThe footsteps of the Lord\u2014the signs of His secret operations. As in the Psalm: \u201cAnd Thy footsteps shall not be known.\u201d 3677\nThe knowledge of the Lord\u2014that which makes men to know Him. To Abraham He says: \u201cNow I know that thou fearest the Lord;\u201d 3678 that is, I have made thee to know.\nThe ignorance of God 3679 is His disapproval. In the Gospel: \u201cI know you not.\u201d 3680\nThe remembrance of God\u2014His mercy, by which He rejects and has mercy on whom He will. So in Genesis: \u201cThe Lord remembered Noah;\u201d 3681 and in another passage: \u201cThe Lord hath remembered His people.\u201d 3682\nThe repentance of the Lord\u2014His change of procedure. 3683 As in the book of Kings: \u201cIt repented me that I have made Saul king.\u201d 3684\nThe anger and wrath of the Lord\u2014the vengeance of the Deity upon sinners, when He bears with them with a view to punishment, does not at once judge them according to strict equity. As in the Psalm: \u201cIn His anger and in His wrath will He trouble them.\u201d 3685\nThe sleeping of the Lord\u2014when, in the thoughts of some, His faithfulness is not sufficiently wakeful. In the Psalm: \u201cAwake, why sleepest Thou, O Lord?\u201d 3686\nThe watches of the Lord\u2014in the guardianship of His elect He is always at hand by the presence of His Deity. In the Psalm: \u201cLo! He will not slumber nor sleep.\u201d 3687\nThe sitting of the Lord\u2014His ruling. In the Psalm: \u201cThe Lord sitteth upon His holy seat.\u201d 3688\nThe footstool of the Lord\u2014man assumed by the Word; or His saints, as some think. In the Psalm: \u201cWorship ye His footstool, for it is holy.\u201d\nThe walking of the Lord\u2014the delight of p. 762 the Deity in the walks of His elect. In the prophet: \u201cI will walk in them, and will be their Lord.\u201d 3689\nThe trumpet of the Lord\u2014His mighty voice.
