Griffith, [1895]\n1Made ready in the east drive forth, take notice of what is hap-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0pening here, omniscient Agni! p. a193\n \u00a0\u00a0Thou bringest medicine and healest sickness: through thee may\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0we win horses, kine, and people.\n 2Accordant with all Gods, O J\u0101tavedas Agni, perform this work\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0as we beseech thee,\n \u00a0\u00a0That this defence of his may fall, whoever hath caused us pain,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0whoever hath consumed us.\n 3Unanimous, with all the Gods together, so do this thing O Agni\n \u00a0\u00a0J\u0101tavedas, that this defence of his may fall and fail him.\n 4Pierce both his eyes, pierce thou the heart within him, crush\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0thou his teeth and cleave his tongue asunder.\n \u00a0\u00a0Rend thou, most youthful Agni, that Pis\u0101cha whoso amid them\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0all of this hath eaten.\n 5Whatever of his body hath been taken, plundered, borne off, or\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0eaten by Pis\u0101chas,\n \u00a0\u00a0This, Agni, knowing it, again bring hither! We give back flesh\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and spirit to his body.\n 6If some Pis\u0101cha in my food raw, ready, thoroughly cooked, or,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0spotty, hath deceived me,\n \u00a0\u00a0Let the Pis\u0101chas with their lives and offspring atone for this,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and let this man be healthy.\n 7If one hath cheated me in milk or porridge, in food from grain\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0or plants that need no culture.\n \u00a0\u00a0Let the Pis\u0101chas, etc.\n 8If one, flesh eater, in a draught of water have wronged me lying\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0in the bed of goblins,\n \u00a0\u00a0Let the Pis\u0101chas, etc.\n 9If one, flesh-eater, in the day or night-time have wronged me\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0lying in the bed of goblins,\n \u00a0\u00a0Let the Pis\u0101chas, etc.\n 10O Agni J\u0101tavedas, slay the bloody Pis\u0101cha, flesh-devourer, mind-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0destroyer,\n \u00a0\u00a0Strong Indra strike him with his bolt of thunder, courageous\n \u00a0\u00a0Soma cut his head to pieces!\n 11Thou, Agni, ever slayest Y\u0101tudh\u0101nas, the fiends have never con-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0quered thee in battles.\n \u00a0\u00a0Consume thou from the root the flesh-devourers, let none of\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0them escape thy heavenly weapon\n 12Collect, O J\u0101tavedas, what hath been removed and borne away.\n \u00a0\u00a0Let this man's members grow, let him swell like the tendril of a\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0plant. p. a194\n 13Like as the Soma's tendril, thus, O J\u0101tavedas let him swell,\n \u00a0\u00a0Let him live, Agni I Make him fat, free from consumption, full\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0of sap.\n 14Here, Agni, is the fuel, here are logs that crush Pis\u0101chas down.\n \u00a0\u00a0O J\u0101tavedas, willingly accept them and be pleased therewith.\n 15Accept, O Agni, with thy flame the billets of T\u0101rsht\u0101gha wood.\n \u00a0\u00a0Let the flesh-eater who would take the flesh of this man lose his\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0form.","title":"Atharva Veda: Book 5: Hymn 29: A charm for the destruction of malignant goblins","type":"page"}
