Griffith, [1895]\n1The tawny-coloured, and the pale, the variegated and the red,\n \u00a0\u00a0The dusky-tinted, and the black,\u2014all Plants we summon hither-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0ward.\n 2This man let them deliver from Consumption which the Gods\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0have sent.\n \u00a0\u00a0The father of these Herbs was Heaven, their mother Earth, the\n \u00a0\u00a0Sea their root.\n 3The Waters are the best, and heavenly Plants.\n \u00a0\u00a0From every limb of thine have they removed Consumption\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0caused by sin.\n 4I speak to Healing Herbs spreading, and bushy, to creepers, and\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0to those whose sheath is single,\n \u00a0\u00a0I call for thee the fibrous and the reed-like, and branching.\n \u00a0\u00a0Plants, dear to the Visve Devas, powerful, giving life to men.\n 5The conquering strength, the power and might which ye, victo-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0rious Plants, possess,\n \u00a0\u00a0Therewith deliver this man here from this Consumption, O ye\n \u00a0\u00a0Plants: so I prepare the remedy.\n 6The living Plant that giveth life, that driveth malady away,\n \u00a0\u00a0Arundhatr, the rescuer, strengthening, rich a sweets I call, to free\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0this man from scath and harm.\n 7Hitherward let the sapient come, the friendly sharers o f my\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0speech. p. a341\n \u00a0\u00a0That we may give this man relief and raise him from his evil\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0plight.\n 8Germ of the Waters, Agni's food, Plants ever growing fresh and\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0new,\n \u00a0\u00a0Sure, healing, bearing thousand names, let them be all collected\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0here.\n 9Let Plants whose soul is water, girt with Avak\u0101s, piercing with\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0their sharp horns expel the malady.\n 10Strong, antidotes of poison, those releasers, free from Varuna,\n \u00a0\u00a0And those that drive away Catarrh, and those that frustrate\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0magic arts, let all those Plants come hitherward.\n 11Let purchased Plants of mightier power, Plants that are praised\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0for excellence.\n \u00a0\u00a0Here in this village safely keep cattle and horses, man and beast.\n 12Sweet is their root, sweet are these Plants' top branches, sweet\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0also is their intermediate portion;\n \u00a0\u00a0Sweet is their foliage, and sweet their blossom, combined with\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0sweetness is their taste of Amrit: food, fatness let them yield,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0with kine preceding.\n 13These Plants that grow upon the earth, whate'er their number\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and their size,\n \u00a0\u00a0Let these with all their thousand leaves free me from Death and\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0misery.\n 14May the Plants' Tiger-amulet, protective, guardian from the\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0curse,\n \u00a0\u00a0Beat off the brood of demons, drive all maladies afar from us.\n 15Before the gathered Plants they fly and scatter, as though a lion's\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0roar or fire dismayed them.\n \u00a0\u00a0Expelled by Plants, let men's and kine's Consumption pass from\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0us to the navigable rivers.\n 16Emancipated from the sway of Agni, of Vaisv\u0101nara, go, covering\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the earth, ye Plants whose ruler is Vanaspati.\n 17May these be pleasant to our heart, auspicious, rich in store of\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0milk,\n \u00a0\u00a0These Plants of the Angirases which grow on mountains and on\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0plains.\n 18The Plants I know myself, the plants that with mine eye I look\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0upon,\n \u00a0\u00a0Plants yet unknown, and those we know, wherein we find that\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0power is stored, p. a342\n 19Let all the congregated Plants attend and mark mine utterance,\n \u00a0\u00a0That we may rescue this man here and save him from severe\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0distress.\n 20Asvattha, Darbha, King of Plants, is Soma, deathless sacrifice\n \u00a0\u00a0Barley and Rice are healing balms, the sons of Heaven who\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0never die.\n 21Lift yourselves up, ye Healing Plants, loud is the thunder's crash\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and roar.\n \u00a0\u00a0When with full flow Parjanya, ye Children of Prisni!
