Griffith, [1895]\n1K\u0101ma the Bull, slayer of foes, I worship with molten butter,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0sacrifice, oblation.\n \u00a0\u00a0Beneath my feet cast down mine adversaries with thy great\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0manly power, when I have praised thee.\n 2That which is hateful to mine eye and spirit, that harasses and\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0robs me of enjoyment,\n \u00a0\u00a0The evil dream I loose upon my foemen. May I rend him when\n \u00a0\u00a0I have lauded K\u0101ma.\n 3K\u0101ma, do thou, a mighty Lord and Ruler, let loose ill dream,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0misfortune, want of children,\n \u00a0\u00a0Homelessness, K\u0101ma! utter destitution, upon the sinner who\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0designs my ruin.\n 4Drive them away, drive them afar, O K\u0101ma; indigence fall on\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0those who are my foemen!\n \u00a0\u00a0When they have been cast down to deepest darkness, consume\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0their dwellings with thy fire, O Agni.\n 5She, K\u0101ma! she is called the Cow, thy daughter, she who is\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0named V\u0101k and Vir\u0101j by sages.\n \u00a0\u00a0By her drive thou my foemen to a distance. May cattle, vital\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0breath, and life forsake them.\n 6By K\u0101ma's might, King Varuna's and Indra's, by Vishnu's\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0strength, and Savitar's instigation,\n \u00a0\u00a0I chase my foes with sacrifice to Agni, as a deft steersman drives\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0his boat through waters.\n 7May K\u0101ma, mighty one, my potent warder, give me full free-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0dom from mine adversaries.\n \u00a0\u00a0May all the Deities be my protection, all Gods come nigh to\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0this mine invocation.\n 8Accepting this oblation rich with fatness, be joyful here, ye\n \u00a0\u00a0Gods whose chief is K\u0101ma,\n \u00a0\u00a0Giving me freedom from mine adversaries.\n 9Ye, Indra, Agni, K\u0101ma! come together and cast mine adver-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0saries down beneath me.\n \u00a0\u00a0When they have sunk into the deepest darkness, O Agni, with\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0thy fire consume their dwellings. p. a360\n 10Slay those who are mine enemies, O K\u0101ma: headlong to depth\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0of blinding darkness hurl them.\n \u00a0\u00a0Reft be they all of manly strength and vigour! Let them not\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0have a single day's existence.\n 11K\u0101ma hath slain those who were mine opponents, and given me\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0ample room to grow and prosper.\n \u00a0\u00a0Let the four regions bow them down before me, and let the\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0six expanses bring me fatness.\n 12Let them drift downward like a boat torn from the rope that\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0held it fast.\n \u00a0\u00a0There is no turning back for those whom our keen arrows have\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0repelled.\n 13Agni averts, Indra averts, and Soma: may the averting Gods\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0avert this foeman.\n 14To be avoided by his friends, detested, repelled, with few men\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0round him, let him wander.\n \u00a0\u00a0Yea, on the earth descend the lightning-flashes: may the strong\n \u00a0\u00a0God destroy your adversaries.\n 15This potent lightning nourishes things shaken, and things un-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0shaken yet, and all the thunders.\n \u00a0\u00a0May the Sun, rising with his wealth and splendour, drive in\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0victorious might my foemen downward.\n 16Thy firm and triply-barred protection, K\u0101ma! thy spell, made\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0weapon-proof extended armour\n \u00a0\u00a0With that drive thou my foemen to a distance. May cattle, vital\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0breath, and life forsake them.\n 17Far from the world wherein we live, O K\u0101ma, drive thou my\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0foemen with that selfsame weapon\n \u00a0\u00a0Wherewith the Gods repelled the fiends, and Indra cast down\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the Dasyus into deepest darkness.\n 18As Gods repelled the Asuras, and Indra down to the lowest\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0darkness drove the demons,\n \u00a0\u00a0So, K\u0101ma, from this world, to distant places, drive thou the\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0men who are mine adversaries.\n 19First before all sprang K\u0101ma into being. Gods, Fathers, mortal\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0men have never matched him.\n \u00a0\u00a0Stronger than these art thou, and great for ever. K\u0101ma, to thee,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0to thee I offer worship.\n 20Wide as the space which heaven and earth encompass, far as\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the flow of waters, far as Agni, p. a361\n \u00a0\u00a0Stronger than these art thou, and great for ever. K\u0101ma, to thee,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0to thee I offer worship.\n 21Vast as the quarters of the sky and regions that lie between\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0them spread in all directions, vast as celestial tracts and views\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0of heaven,\n \u00a0\u00a0Stronger than these art thou, and great for ever. K\u0101ma, to thee,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0to thee I offer worship.\n 22Many as are the bees, and bats, and reptiles, and female serpents\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0of the trees, and beetles,\n \u00a0\u00a0Stronger art thou than these, and great for ever.
