Let him travel. foreknowing, to\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the regions of the pious.\n \u00a0\u00a0Crossing in many a place the mighty darkness, let the Goat\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0mount to the third heaven above us.\n 2I bring thee hither as a share for Indra; prince, at this sacrifice,.\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0for him who worships.\n \u00a0\u00a0Grasp firmly from behind all those who hate us: so let the sacri-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0ficer's men be sinless.\n 3Wash from his feet all trace of evil-doing: foreknowing, with\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0cleansed hooves let him go upward.\n \u00a0\u00a0Gazing on many a spot, crossing the darkness, let the Goat\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0mount to the third heaven above us.\n 4Cut up this skin with the grey knife, Dissector! dividing joint\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0from joint, and mangle nothing\n \u00a0\u00a0Do him no injury: limb by limb arrange him, and send him up\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0to the third cope of heaven.\n 5With verse upon the fire I set the caldron: pour in the water;\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0lay him down within it! p. a369\n \u00a0\u00a0Encompass him with fire, ye Immolators. Conquer and win this\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0lucid world of splendour.\n 7The Goat is Agni: light they call him, saying that living man\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0must give him to the Br\u0101hman.\n \u00a0\u00a0Given in this world by a devout believer, the Goat dispels and\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0drives afar the darkness.\n 8Let the Panchaudana Goat, about to visit the three lights, pass\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0away in five divisions.\n \u00a0\u00a0Go midst the pious who have paid their worship, and parted,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0dwell on the third cope of heaven.\n 9Rise to that world, O Goat, where dwell the righteous: pass, like\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0a Sarabha veiled, all difficult places.\n \u00a0\u00a0The Goat Panchaudana, given to a Br\u0101hman, shall with all ful-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0ness satisfy the giver.\n 10The Goat Panchaudana, given to a Br\u0101hman, sets the bestower\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0on the pitch of heaven,\n \u00a0\u00a0In the third vault, third sky, third ridge. One only Cow omni-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0form art thou, that yields all wishes.\n 11That is the third light that is yours, ye Fathers. He gives the\n \u00a0\u00a0Goat Panchaudana to the Br\u0101hman.\n \u00a0\u00a0Given in this world by the devout believer, the Goat dispels and\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0drives afar the darkness.\n 12Seeking the world of good men who have worshipped, he gives\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the Goat Panchaudana to the Br\u0101hman.\n \u00a0\u00a0Win thou this world as thy complete possession. Auspicious\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0unto us be he, accepted!\n 13Truly the Goat sprang from the glow of Agni, inspired as sage\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0with all a sage's power.\n \u00a0\u00a0Sacrifice, filled, filled full, offered with Vashat\u2014this let the Gods\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0arrange.at proper seasons.\n 14Home-woven raiment let him give, and gold as guerdon to the\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0priests.\n \u00a0\u00a0So he obtains completely all celestial and terrestrial worlds.\n 15Near to thee, Goat! approach these streams of Soma, divine,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0distilling meath, bedecked with butter! p. a370\n \u00a0\u00a0Stay thou the earth and sky and fix them firmly up on the seven-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0rayed pitch and height of heaven.\n 16Unborn art thou, O Goat: to heaven thou goest. Though thee\n \u00a0\u00a0Angirases knew that radiant region.\n \u00a0\u00a0So may I know that holy world.\n 17Convey our sacrifice to heaven, that it may reach the Gods, with\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0that\n \u00a0\u00a0Whereby thou, Agni, bearest wealth in thousands, and all pre-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0cious things.\n 18The Goat Panchaudana, when cooked, transporteth, repelling\n \u00a0\u00a0Nirriti, to the world of Svarga.\n \u00a0\u00a0By him may we win worlds which S\u016brya brightens.\n 19The droppings of the Odanas attending the Goat which I have\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0lodged with priest or people\n \u00a0\u00a0May all this know us in the world of virtue, O Agni, at the\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0meeting of the pathways.\n 20This Unborn cleft apart in the beginning: his breast became the\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0earth, his back was heaven.\n \u00a0\u00a0His middle was the air, his sides the regions; the hollows of his\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0belly formed both oceans.\n 21His eyes were Truth and Right.
