Griffith, [1895]\n1Ye are the power of Indra, ye the force and strength of Indra,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0ye his hero might and manliness.\n \u00a0\u00a0I join you with the bonds of Prayer to the victorious enterprise.\n 6For the victorious enterprise let all creation stand by me. For\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0me ye, Waters, are prepared. p. 15\n 7Ye are the share of Agni. Grant, O heavenly Waters unto us the\n \u00a0\u00a0Waters' brilliant energy.\n \u00a0\u00a0By statute of Praj\u0101pati I set you down for this our world.\n 15Waters, your ceremonial share of Waters which the waters hold,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0which aids our sacrifice to Gods,\n \u00a0\u00a0This as a remnant here I leave. Do not thou wash it clean away.\n \u00a0\u00a0With this we let the man go by who hates us and whom we\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0abhor.\n \u00a0\u00a0Him would I fain o'erthrow and slay with this our ceremonial\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0act, with this our prayer, our thunder-bolt.\n 22Whatever evil I have done within this last triennium,\n \u00a0\u00a0From all that woe and misery let the waters shield and guard\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0me well.\n 23Onward I urge your gathered floods: enter your own abiding-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0place,\n \u00a0\u00a0Uninjured and with all your strength. Let nothing bend or bow\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0us down.\n 24May the pure Waters cleanse us from defilement,\n \u00a0\u00a0Fair to behold remove our sin and trouble, and bear away ill-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0dream and all pollution.\n 25Thou art the step of Vishnu, rival-slayer, sharpened by earth,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0aglow with fire of Agni,\n \u00a0\u00a0Earth have I ranged: from earth we bar him who hates us and\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0whom we hate.\n 26Ours is superior place and ours is conquest: may I in all fights\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0tread down spite and malice.\n \u00a0\u00a0Let him not live, let vital breath desert him.\n 36With this I here invest the power and splendour, the life of that\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0man and his vital breathing, the son of such a sire and such a\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0woman, here do I overthrow and cast him downward.\n 37I follow S\u016brya's course in heaven, the course that takes him to\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the South.\n \u00a0\u00a0May that bestow upon me wealth and glory of a Br\u0101hman's\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0rank.\n 38I turn me to the regions bright with splendour.\n \u00a0\u00a0May they bestow upon me wealth and glory of a Br\u0101hman's\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0rank.\n 39I turn me to the Rishis Seven. May they, etc.\n 40I turn me unto Prayer. May that, etc.\n 41I turn me unto Br\u0101hmans. May they etc. p. 16\n 42We hunt that man, we beat him down and slay him with our\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0murderous blows.\n \u00a0\u00a0We with the spell have hurried him to Parameshthin's opened\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0jaws.\n 43Let the shot missile catch him with Vaisv\u0101nara's two mighty\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0fangs.\n \u00a0\u00a0This offering, and the mightiest Goddess, the Fuel, eat him up!\n 44Thou art the bound of Varuna the King.\n \u00a0\u00a0Bind, such an one, the son of such a woman, in vital breath and\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0in the food that feeds him.\n 45All food of thine, O Lord of Life, that lies, upon the face of\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0earth,\n \u00a0\u00a0Thereof bestow thou upon us. O Lord of Life, Praj\u0101pati!\n 46Celestial Waters have I sought: with juice have I besprinkled\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0them.\n \u00a0\u00a0With milk, O Agni, have I come; bestow upon me splendid\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0strength.\n 47Give me the boon of splendid strength; give, Agni! progeny\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and life.\n \u00a0\u00a0May the Gods know this prayer of mine, may Indra with the\n \u00a0\u00a0Rishis know.\n 48What curse soever couples launch against us, whatever bitter\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0speech the chatterers utter,\n \u00a0\u00a0With Manyu's arrow, offspring of the spirit, transfix thou to the\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0heart the Y\u0101tudh\u0101nas,\n 49Destroy the Y\u0101tudh\u0101nas with thy fervour, consume the demons\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0with thy wrath, O Agni.\n \u00a0\u00a0Destroy the fool's gods with thy fiery splendour, destroy the\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0blazing ones, the insatiable.\n 50Well-skilled, against this man I hurl the Water's bolt with four\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0spikes, to cleave his head asunder.\n \u00a0\u00a0May it destroy all members of his body.
