Heaven and Earth are the ears, the Sun and Moon are the\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0eyes, the seven Rishis are the vital airs inhaled and exhaled. p. 50\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a03. Vision is the pestle, Desire the mortar. 4. Diti is the\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0winnowing basket, Aditi is she who holds it, V\u0101ta is the sifter.\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a05. Horses are the grains, oxen the winnowed ricegrains, gnats\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the husks. 6. Kabru is the husked grain, the rain cloud is the\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0reed. 7. Grey iron is its flesh, copper its blood. 8. Tin is its\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0ashes, gold its colour, the blue lotus flower its scent. 9. The\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0threshing-floor is its dish, the wooden swords its shoulders,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the car-shafts its backbones. 10. Collar-bones are its entrails,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0straps its intestines. 11. This earth, verily becomes the jar,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and heaven the cover of the Odana as it is cooking.\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a012. Furrows are its ribs, sandy soils the undigested contents\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0of its stomach. 13. Law is its water for the hands and family\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0custom its aspersion. 14. The jar covered with the Rich has\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0been solemnly directed by the priestly office. 15. Received by\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the Br\u0101hman, it has been carried round. 16. The Brihat is,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the stirring-spoon, the Rathantara the ladle. 17. The Seasons\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0are the dressers, the Groups of Seasons kindle the fire.\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a018. The caldron flames round the oblation (charu) whose\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0mouth consists of five openings.\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a01919. The sacrificial word, all worlds are to be won with Odana.\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a02020. The theologians say, Thou\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0hast eaten the averted Odana and the Odana turned hither-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0ward. 27. Thou hast eaten the Odana and the Odana will eat\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0thee. 28. Thou hast eaten this averted; thy inward breath will\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0leave thee; so he said to this one. 29. Thou hast eaten this\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0turned hitherward; thy downward breath will leave thee; so\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0he said to this one. 30. I indeed have not eaten the Odana,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0nor has the Odana eaten me. 31. The Odana has just eaten\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the Odana.\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a03232. And thence he said to this one, Thou hast eaten this with ap. 51\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0different head from that with which the ancient Rishis ate:\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0thy offspring, reckoning from the eldest, will die. With Brihaspati as head: with him I have eaten,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0with him have I come to it. Now this Odana is complete with\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0all members, joints, and body. Complete, verily, with all his\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0members, joints, and body is he who possess this knowledge.\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a033. And thence he said to him, Thou hast eaten this with\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0other ears than those with which the ancient Rishis ate it.\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Thou wilt be deaf.
