Griffith, [1895]\n1Prayers have been offered up through love of glory: Vasishtha,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0honour Indra in the battle.\n \u00a0\u00a0He who with might extends through all existence hears words\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0which I, his faithful servant, utter.\n 2A cry was raised which reached the Gods, O Indra, a cry to\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0them to send us strength in combat.\n \u00a0\u00a0None among men knows his own life's duration: bear us in\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0safety over these our troubles.\n 3The Bays, the booty-seeking car I harness: my prayers have\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0reached him who accepts them gladly.\n \u00a0\u00a0Indra, when he had slain resistless Vritras, forced with his might\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the two world-halves asunder.\n 4Like barren cows, moreover, swelled the waters: the singers\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0sought thy holy rite, O Indra.\n \u00a0\u00a0Come unto us as with his team comes V\u0101yu: thou, through our\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0solemn hymns, bestowest booty.\n 5So may these gladdening draughts rejoice thee, Indra, the Mighty,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0very bounteous to the singer.\n \u00a0\u00a0Alone among the Gods thou pitiest mortals: O Hero, make thee\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0glad at this libation.\n 6Thus the Vasishthas glorify with praises Indra, the Mighty One,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0whose arm wields thunder.\n \u00a0\u00a0Praised, may he guard our wealth in kine and heroes.
