Griffith, [1895]\n1Indra, the mortal man well guarded by thine aid goes foremost\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0in the wealth of horses and of kine.\n \u00a0\u00a0With amplest wealth thou fillest him, as round about the waters\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0clearly seen afar fill Sindhu full.\n 2The heavenly waters come not nigh the priestly bowl: they but\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0look down and see how far mid-air is spread:\n \u00a0\u00a0The Deities conduct the pious man to them: like suitors they\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0delight in him who loveth prayer.\n 3Praiseworthy blessing hast thou laid upon the pair who with\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0uplifted ladle serve thee, man and wife.\n \u00a0\u00a0Unchecked he dwells and prospers in thy law: thy power brings\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0blessing to the sacrificer pouring gifts.\n 4First the Angirases won themselves vital power, whose fires were\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0kindled through good deeds and sacrifice.\n \u00a0\u00a0The men together found the Pani's hoarded wealth, the cattle,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and the wealth in horses and in kine,\n 5Atharvan first by sacrifices laid the path; then, guardian of the\n \u00a0\u00a0Law, sprang up the loving Sun.\n \u00a0\u00a0Usan\u0101 K\u0101vya drove the kine hither with him: let us with offer-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0ings honour Yama's deathless birth.\n 6When sacred grass is trimmed to aid the auspicious work, or\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the hymn makes its voice of praise sound to the sky,\n \u00a0\u00a0Where the stone rings as 'twere a singer skilled in laud,\u2014Indra\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0in truth delights when these come near to him.\n 7To make thee start, a strong true draught I offer to thee the\n \u00a0\u00a0Bull, O thou whom bay steeds carry.\n \u00a0\u00a0Here take delight.
