Griffith, [1895]\n1With these my hymns I glorify that Indra who is alone to be\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0invoked by mortals. p. 296\n \u00a0\u00a0The Lord, the Mighty One, of manly vigour, victorious, Hero,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0true, and full of wisdom.\n 2Our ancient sires, Navagvas, sages seven, while urging him to\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0show his might, extolled him,\n \u00a0\u00a0Dweller on heights, swift smiting down opponents, guileless in\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0word, and in his thoughts most mighty.\n 3We seek that Indra to obtain his riches that yield much food,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and men, and store of heroes.\n \u00a0\u00a0O Lord of Bay Steeds, bring to make us joyful, celestial wealth\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0abundant, undecaying.\n 4Declare to us\u2014if at thy hand aforetime the earlier singers have\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0obtained good fortune\n \u00a0\u00a0What is thy share and portion, strong Subduer, Asura-slayer,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0rich, invoked of many?\n 5He who for car-borne, thunder-wielding Indra, hath a hymn,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0craving deeply-piercing, fluent,\n \u00a0\u00a0Who sends a song effectual, firmly-grasping, and strength-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0bestowing, he comes near the mighty.\n 6Strong of thyself! thou with this art hast shattered with thought-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0swift Parvata, him who waxed against thee;\n \u00a0\u00a0And, Mightiest! rager! boldly rent in pieces things that were\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0firmly fixed and never shaken..\n 7Him will we fit for you with new devotion, the strongest,\n \u00a0\u00a0Ancient One, in ancient manner.\n \u00a0\u00a0So way that Indra, boundless, faithful leader, conduct us o'er all\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0places hard to traverse.\n 8Thou for the people who oppress hast kindled the earthly firma-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0ment and that of heaven.\n \u00a0\u00a0With heat, O Bull, on every side consume them heat earth and\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0flood for him who hates devotion:\n 9Of all the heavenly folk, of earthly creatures, thou art the King,\n \u00a0\u00a0O God of splendid aspect.\n \u00a0\u00a0In thy right hand, O Indra, grasp the thunder: Eternal! thou\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0destroyest all enchantments.\n 10Give us confirmed prosperity, O Indra, vast and exhaustless for\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the foes' subduing.\n \u00a0\u00a0Strengthen therewith the Arya's hate and D\u0101sa's; and let the\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0arms of Nahushas be mighty.\n 11Come with thy teams which bring all blessings, hither, disposer,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0much-invoked, exceeding holy! p. 297\n \u00a0\u00a0Come to me swiftly with these teams of coursers, these which\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0no fiend, no God may stay or hinder.","title":"Atharva Veda: Book 20: Hymn 36","type":"page"}
