Griffith, [1895]\n1Thou, Indra, with the Tempest-Gods, the breakers down of\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0what is firm,\n \u00a0\u00a0Foundest the kine even in the cave.\n 2Worshipping even as they list, singers laud him who findeth\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0wealth,\n \u00a0\u00a0The far-renowned, the mighty One.\n 3Then, faring on by Indra's side, the fearless, let thyself be seen,.\n \u00a0\u00a0Both gracious and in splendour peers.\n 4With Indra's well-beloved hosts, the blameless, tending heaven-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0ward,\n \u00a0\u00a0The sacrificer cries aloud.\n 5Come from this place, O wanderer, or downward from the light\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0of heaven!\n \u00a0\u00a0Our songs of praise all yearn for this.\n 6Or Indra we implore for help from here, from heaven above the\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0earth,\n \u00a0\u00a0Or from the spacious firmament.\n 7Indra the singers with high praise, Indra reciters with their\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0lauds,\n \u00a0\u00a0Indra the choirs have glorified.\n 8Indra hath ever close to him his two bay steeds and word-yoked\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0car,\n \u00a0\u00a0Indra the golden, Thunder-armed.\n 9Indra hath raisedjthe Sun on high in heaven, that he may see\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0afar:\n \u00a0\u00a0He burst the mountain for the kine.\n 10Help us, O Indra, in the frays, yea, frays where thousand spoils\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0are gained,\n \u00a0\u00a0With awful aids, O awful One.\n 11In mighty battle we invoke, Indra, Indra in lesser fight,\n \u00a0\u00a0The friend who bends his bolt at fiends.\n 12Unclose, our manly Hero, thou for ever bounteous, yonder\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0cloud,\n \u00a0\u00a0For us, thou irresistible.\n 13Still higher, at each strain of mine, thunder-armed Indra's,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0praises rise:\n \u00a0\u00a0I find no laud worthy of him. p. 321\n 14Even as the bull drives on the herds, he drives the people with\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0his might,\n \u00a0\u00a0The ruler irresistible:\n 15Indra who rules with single sway men, riches, and the fivefold\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0race.\n \u00a0\u00a0Of those who dwell upon the earth.\n 16For your sake from each side we call Indra away from other\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0men:\n \u00a0\u00a0Ours, and none others', may he be.\n 17Indra, bring wealth that gives delight, the victor's ever-conquer-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0ing wealth,\n \u00a0\u00a0Most excellent, to be our aid;\n 18By means of which we may repel our foes in battle hand to\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0hand.\n \u00a0\u00a0By thee assisted with the car.\n 19Aided by thee, the Thunder-armed, Indra; may we lit up the\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0bolt,\n \u00a0\u00a0And conquer all our foes in fight.\n 20With thee, O Indra, for ally, with missile-darting heroes may\n \u00a0\u00a0We conquer our embattled foes.","title":"Atharva Veda: Book 20: Hymn 70","type":"page"}
