Griffith, [1895]\n1Before his hot displeasure all the peoples, all the men bow\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0down,\n \u00a0\u00a0As rivers bend them to the sea.\n 2This power of his shone brightly forth when Indra brought to-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0gether like\n \u00a0\u00a0A skin the worlds of earth and heaven.\n 3The fiercely-moving Vritra's head he severed with his thunder-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0bolt,\n \u00a0\u00a0His hundred-knotted thunderbolt.\n 4In all the worlds That was the best and highest whence sprang\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the mighty God, of splendid valour.\n \u00a0\u00a0As soon as born he overcomes his foemen, he in whom all who\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0lend him aid are joyful.\n 5Grown mighty in his strength, with ample vigour, he as a foe\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0strikes fear into the D\u0101sa,\n \u00a0\u00a0Eager to win the breathing and the breathless. All sang thy\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0praise at banquet and oblation.\n 6All concentrate on thee their mental vigour, what time these,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0twice or thrice, are thine assistants.\n \u00a0\u00a0Blend what is sweeter than the sweet with sweetness: win quickly\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0with our meath that meath in battle.\n 7Therefore in thee too, thou who winnest riches, at every banquet\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0are the sages joyful\n \u00a0\u00a0With mighter power, bold God, extend thy firmness: let not\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0malignant Y\u0101tudh\u0101nas harm thee.\n 8Proudly we put our trust in thee in battles, when we behold great\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0wealth the prize of combat.\n \u00a0\u00a0I with my words impel thy weapons onward, and sharpen with\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0my prayer thy vital vigour.\n 9Worthy of praises many-shaped, most skilful, most energetic,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u0100ptya of the Aptyas: p. 351\n \u00a0\u00a0He with his might destroys the seven D\u0101nus, subduing many\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0who were deemed his equals.\n 10Thou in that house which thy protection guardedh bestowest-\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0wealth, the higher and the lower.\n \u00a0\u00a0Thou stablishest the two much-wandering Mothers, and bringest\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0many deeds to their completion.\n 11Brihaddiva, the foremost of light-winners, repeasts these holy\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0prayers, this strength to Indra.\n \u00a0\u00a0He rules the great self-luminous fold of cattle, and all the doors\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0of light hath he thrown open.\n 12Thou hath Brihaddiva the great Atharvan, spoken to Indra as\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0himself in person.\n \u00a0\u00a0The M\u0101tarisvar\u012bs, the spotless sisters, with power exalt him and\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0impel him onward.\n 13Bright, Presence of the Gods, the luminous herald, Siirya hath\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0mounted the celestial regions.\n \u00a0\u00a0Day's maker, he hath shone away the darkness, and radiant\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0passed o'er places hard to traverse.\n 14The brilliant Presence of the Gods hath risen, the eye of Mitra,\n \u00a0\u00a0Varuna, and Agni.\n \u00a0\u00a0The soul of all that moveth not or moveth, S\u016brya hath filled the\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0earth and air and heaven.\n 15Even as a lover followeth a maiden, so doth the Sun the Dawn,\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0refulgent Goddess:\n \u00a0\u00a0Where pious men extend their generations before the Gracious\n \u00a0\u00a0One for happy fortune.","title":"Atharva Veda: Book 20: Hymn 107","type":"page"}
