The question of the priority of the two Bh\u00e2gavatas has been often discussed more in the spirit of partisans rather than that of sober scholars. We reserve our opinion on the subject till the publication of the complete translation of this work.\nThis translation has been inscribed to the sacred memory of my friend the late R\u00e2i B\u00e2h\u00e2dur S\u2019r\u00ees\u2019 Chandra Vidy\u00e2rnava who induced me to undertake the translation of this work. He had thoroughly read the two Bh\u00e2gavatas and it was his opinion that the priority of composition belonged to the Dev\u00ee Bh\u00e2gavatam.
