{"collection":"Hinduism","html_url":"https://unchartedknowledge.5gfusion.net/browse/hin/rama/ry495.htm","path":"hin/rama/ry495.htm","source_url":"https://sacred-texts.com/hin/rama/ry495.htm","text":"The giant lord the chariot viewed,\n And humbly thus his speech renewed:\n 'Behold, O King, the car prepared:\n Now be thy further will declared.'\n He ceased: and R\u00e1ma spake once more:\n 'These hosts who thronged to Lank\u00e1's shore\n Their faith and might have nobly shown,\n And set thee on the giants' throne.\n Let pearls and gems and gold repay\n The feats of many a desperate day,\n That all may go triumphant hence\n Proud of their noble recompense.'\n Vibh\u00edshan, ready at his call,\n With gold and gems enriched them all.\n Ihen R\u00e1ma clomb the glorious car\n That shone like day's resplendent star.\n There in his lap he held his dame\n Vailing her eyes in modest shame.\n Beside him Lakshman took his stand,\n Whose mighty bow still armed his hand,\n 'O King Vibh\u00edshan,' R\u00e1ma cried,\n 'O V\u00e1nar chiefs, so long allied,\n \n \n My comrades till the foemen fell,\n List, for I speak a long farewell.\n The task, in doubt and fear begun,\n With your good aid is nobly done.\n Leave Lank\u00e1's shore, your steps retrace,\n Brave warriors of the V\u00e1nar race\n Thou, King Sugr\u00edva, true, through all,\n To friendship's bond and duty's call,\n Seek far Kishkindha with thy train\n And o'er thy realm in glory reign.\n Farewell, Vibh\u00edshan, Lank\u00e1's throne\n Won by our arms is now thine own,\n Thou, mighty lord, hast nought to dread\n From heavenly Gods by Indra led.\n My last farewell, O King, receive,\n For Lank\u00e1's isle this hour I leave.'\n \n \n Loud rose their cry in answer: 'We,\n O Raghu's son, would go with thee.\n With thee delighted would we stray\n Where sweet Ayodhy\u00e1's groves are gay,\n Then in the joyous synod view\n King-making balm thy brows bedew;\n Our homage to Kaus'aly\u00e1 pay,\n And hasten on our homeward way.'\n \n \n Their prayer the son of Raghu heard,\n And spoke, his heart with rapture stirred:\n 'Sugr\u00edva, O my faithful friend,\n Vibh\u00edshan and ye chiefs, ascend.\n A joy beyond all joys the best\n Will fill my overflowing breast,\n If girt by you, O noble band,\n I seek again my native land.'\n With V\u00e1nar lords in danger tried\n Sugr\u00edva sprang to R\u00e1ma's side,\n And girt by chiefs of giant kind\n Vibh\u00edshan's step was close behind.\n Swift through the air, as R\u00e1ma chose,\n The wondrous car from earth arose.\n And decked with swans and silver wings\n Bore through the clouds its freight of kings.","title":"BOOK VI: Canto CXXIV.: The Departure.","type":"page"}
