O INDRA, V\u1e5btra-slayer, none is better, mightier than thou:\n Verily there is none like thee.\n 2 Like chariot-wheels these people all together follow after thee:\n Thou ever art renowned as Great.\n 3 Not even all the gathered Gods conquered thee, Indra, in the war,\n When thou didst lengthen days by night.\n 4 When for the sake of those oppressed, and Kutsa as he battled,\n Thou stolest away the Sun's car-wheel.\n 5 When, fighting singly, Indra. thou o\u2019ercamest all the furious Gods, thou slewest those who strove with thee.\n 6 When also for a mortal man, Indra, thou speddest forth the Sun,\n And holpest Eta\u015ba with might.\n 7 What? V\u1e5btra-slayer, art not thou, Maghavan, fiercest in thy wrath?\n So hast thou quelled the demon too.\n 8 And this heroic deed of might thou, Indra, also hast achieved,\n That thou didst smite to death the Dame, Heaven's Daughter, meditating ill.\n 9 Thou, Indra, Mighty One, didst crush U\u1e63as, though Daughter of the Sky.\n When lifting up herself in pride.\n 10 Then from her chariot U\u1e63as fled, affrighted, from her ruined car.\n When the strong God had shattered it.\n 11 So there this car of U\u1e63as lay, broken to pieces, in Vip\u0101\u015b,\n And she herself fled far away.\n 12 Thou, Indra, didst. with magic power resist the overflowing stream\n Who spread her waters o\u2019er the land.\n 13 Valiantly didst thou seize and take the store which \u015au\u1e63\u1e47a had amassed,\n When thou didst crush his fortresses.\n 14 Thou, Indra, also smotest down Kulitara's son \u015aambara,\n The D\u0101sa, from the lofty hill.\n 15 Of D\u0101sa Varcin's thou didst slay the hundred thousand and the five,\n Crushed like the fellies, of a car.\n 16 So Indra, Lord of Heroes, Powers, caused the unwedded damsel's son,\n The castaway, to share the lauds.\n 17 So sapient Indra, Lord of Might, brought Turva\u015ba and Yadu, those\n Who feared the flood, in safety o\u2019er.\n 18 Ar\u1e47a and Citraratha, both \u0100ryas, thou, Indra, slewest swift,\n On yonder side of Sarayu,\n 19 Thou, V\u1e5btra-slayer, didst conduct those two forlorn, the blind, the lame.\n None may attain this bliss of thine.\n 20 For Divod\u0101sa, him who brought oblations, Indra overthrew\n A hundred fortresses of stone.\n 21 The thirty thousand D\u0101sas he with magic power and weapons sent\n To slumber, for Dabh\u012bti's sake.\n 22 As such, O V\u1e5btra-slayer, thou art general Lord of kine for all,\n Thou Shaker of all things that be.\n 23 Indra, whatever deed of might thou hast this day to execute,\n None be there now to hinder it.\n 24 O Watchful One, may Aryaman the God give thee all goodly things.\n May P\u016b\u1e63an, Bhaga, and the God Kar\u016b\u1e37at\u012b give all things fair.","title":"Rig Veda: Rig-Veda, Book 4: HYMN XXX.
