The Rik (veda) is this earth, the S\u00e2man (veda) is fire. This S\u00e2man (fire) rests on that Rik (earth) 4. Therefore the S\u00e2man is sung as resting on the Rik.\n[paragraph continues] S\u00e2 is this earth, ama is fire, and that makes S\u00e2ma.\n2. The Rik is the sky, the S\u00e2man air. This S\u00e2man (air) rests on that Rik (sky). Therefore the S\u00e2man is sung as resting on the Rik. S\u00e2 is the sky, ama the air, and that makes S\u00e2ma.\n3. Rik is heaven, S\u00e2man the sun. This S\u00e2man (sun) rests on that Rik (heaven). Therefore the S\u00e2man is sung as resting on the Rik. S\u00e2 is heaven, ama the sun, and that makes S\u00e2ma.\n4. Rik is the stars, S\u00e2man the moon. This S\u00e2man (moon) rests on that Rik (stars). Therefore the S\u00e2man is sung as resting on the Rik. S\u00e2 is the stars, ama the moon, and that makes S\u00e2ma.\n5. Rik is the white light of the sun, S\u00e2man the blue exceeding darkness 1 (in the sun). This S\u00e2man (darkness) rests on that Rik (brightness). Therefore the S\u00e2man is sung as resting on the Rik.\n6. S\u00e2 is the white light of the sun, ama the blue exceeding darkness, and that makes S\u00e2ma.\nNow that golden 2 person, who is seen within the sun, with golden beard and golden hair, golden altogether to the very tips of his nails,\n7. Whose eyes are like blue lotus's 3, his name is ut, for he has risen (udita) above all evil. He also who knows this, rises above all evil.\n8. Rik and S\u00e2man are his joints, and therefore he is udg\u00eetha. And therefore he who praises him\n[paragraph continues] (the ut) is called the Ud-g\u00e2tri 1 (the out-singer). He (the golden person, called ut) is lord of the worlds beyond that (sun), and of all the wishes of the Devas (inhabiting those worlds).
