Speech makes us understand the Rig-veda, Yagur-veda, S\u00e2ma-veda, and as the fourth the \u00c2tharvana, as the fifth the Itih\u00e2sa-pur\u00e2na, the Veda of the Vedas, the Pitrya, the R\u00e2si, the Daiva, the Nidhi, the V\u00e2kov\u00e2kya, the Ek\u00e2yana, the Deva-vidy\u00e2, the Brahma-vidy\u00e2, the Kshatra-vidy\u00e2, the Nakshatra-vidy\u00e2, the Sarpa and Devagana-vidy\u00e2; heaven, earth, air, ether, water, fire, gods, men, cattle, birds, herbs, trees, all beasts down to worms, midges, and ants; what is right and what is wrong; what is true and what is false; what is good and what is bad; what is pleasing and what is not pleasing. For if there were no speech, neither right nor wrong would be known 1, neither the true nor the false, neither the good nor the bad, neither the pleasant nor the unpleasant.
