Now, after having paid reverence to Brahman, to the Brahmarishi, to (those who descend from) Brahman's womb, to Indra, Prag\u00e2pati, Vasishtha, V\u00e2madeva, Kahola Kaush\u00eetaki, Mah\u00e2kaush\u00eetaki, Suyag\u00f1a S\u00e2\u1e45kh\u00e2yana, \u00c2sval\u00e2yana, Aitareya, Mahaitareya, K\u00e2ty\u00e2yana, S\u00e2ty\u00e2yana, S\u00e2kalya, Babhru, B\u00e2bhravya, Mandu, M\u00e2ndavya, and to all the teachers of the past, we will henceforth explain the rules for the \u00c2ranyaka as forming the subject of Sv\u00e2dhy\u00e2ya (private recitation of a text).\n2 2. The teacher abstains through one day and one night from sexual intercourse and from eating flesh.\n3 3-5. Raw flesh, a Kand\u00e2la, a woman that has lately been confined, or that has her courses, seeing blood or persons whose hands have been cut off: (these persons and things he shall know form) impediments for the study.\n4. And of the corpse-like (animals?).\n5. Those which enter (their dens?) with the mouth first (?).\n6 6. When he has vomited, or when his beard has been shaved,\n7 7. When he has eaten flesh or partaken of a Sr\u00e2ddha or birth dinner,\n8. During the days that immediately follow on (days of) study in the village,\n9. Three nights (and days), if (he has been) put out of order,\n10. (Or has been violently) seized by others,\n11. And during the second half of the days that precede (?) the Parvan days,\n12. And if fire-flames, lightning, thunder, (heavy) rains, and great clouds appear,\n13. And if a storm (blows) that carries away pebbles, as long as that lasts.\n2, 1. During four months after the full moon of \u00c2sh\u00e2dha let him not study.\n2 2. Especially the Sakvar\u00ee verses (are concerned by what has been declared).
