He then should recite for himself (the following texts, viz.) the Rikas, the Yagus, the S\u00e2mans, the Atharvan and A\u1e45giras hymns, the Br\u00e2hmanas, the Kalpa (S\u00fbtras), the G\u00e2th\u00e2s, the (texts in honour of kings and heroes, called) N\u00e2r\u00e2sams\u00ees, the Itih\u00e2sas and Pur\u00e2nas.\n2. In that he recites the Rikas, he thereby satiates the gods with oblations of milk\u2014in that (he recites) the Yagus, with oblations of ghee\u2014the S\u00e2mans, with oblations of honey\u2014the Atharvan and A\u1e45giras hymns, with oblations of Soma\u2014the Br\u00e2hmanas, Kalpas, G\u00e2th\u00e2s, N\u00e2r\u00e2sams\u00ees, Itih\u00e2sas and Pur\u00e2nas, with oblations of ambrosia.\n3. In that he recites the Rikas, rivers of milk flow, as a funeral oblation, to his Fathers. In that (he recites) the Yagus, rivers of ghee\u2014the S\u00e2mans, rivers of honey\u2014the Atharvan and A\u1e45giras hymns, rivers of Soma\u2014the Br\u00e2hmanas, Kalpas, G\u00e2th\u00e2s, N\u00e2r\u00e2sams\u00ees, Itih\u00e2sas and Pur\u00e2nas, rivers of ambrosia.\n4. After he has recited (those texts) as far as he thinks fit, he should finish with the following (verse),\n'Adoration to Brahman! Adoration be to Agni! Adoration to the Earth! Adoration to the Herbs!
