Of the sacrifices of the new and full moon, the full-moon sacrifice should be performed first.\n2. If (the term for the sacrifice) of the new moon comes first, he should first celebrate the full-moon sacrifice and then perform that.\n3. Some say that he should not perform it, and wait till the day of the full moon.\n4 4. In the afternoon, husband and wife, after having bathed, should eat fast-day food.\n5 5-8. M\u00e2nadantavya has said: 'He who eats fast-day food, obtains offspring better than himself; he gains favour; hunger will not attack him.'\n6. Therefore one should eat (fast-day food) which he likes.\n7. He should do nothing unholy (such as cohabiting with his wife).\n8. After he has sacrificed the morning oblation,\n9 9-16. He should pour out the sacrificial food with (the formula), 'Agreeable to such and such (a deity) I pour thee out:' (this formula) referring to the\nII, 1, 1. paurnam\u00e2sopakramau darsapaurnam\u00e2sau. 2. d\u00e2rsam ket p\u00fbrvam upapadyeta paurnam\u00e2seneshtv\u00e2tha tat kury\u00e2d. 3. akurvan paurnam\u00e2s\u00eem \u00e2k\u00e2\u1e45kshed ity eke. 4. \u093dpar\u00e2hne sn\u00e2tvaupavasathikam dampat\u00ee bhu\u00f1g\u00eey\u00e2t\u00e2m. 5. M\u00e2nadantavya uv\u00e2ka: sreyas\u00eem prag\u00e2m vindate k\u00e2myo bhavaty akshodhuko ya aupavasathikam bhu\u1e45kte. 6. tasm\u00e2d yat k\u00e2mayeta tad bhu\u00f1g\u00eeta. 7. n\u00e2vratyam \u00e2karet. 8. pr\u00e2tar\u00e2hutim hutv\u00e2 9. havir nirvaped amushmai tv\u00e2 gushtam nirvap\u00e2m\u00eeti devat\u00e2srayam sakrid yagur v\u00e2 dvis t\u00fbshn\u00eem.\ndeity, or a Yagus, (is repeated) once; twice (it is done) silently.\n10. He should wash (the food) thrice, (if it is destined) for gods;\n11. Twice, if for men;\n12. Once, if for the Fathers.\n13. Stirring it up with the pot-ladle from the left to the right he should cook it.\n14. When he has cooked it, he should sprinkle (\u00c2gya) on it, should take it from the fire towards the north, and should again sprinkle (\u00c2gya) on it.\n15. Thus all kinds of Havis (are prepared).\n16. Having put (the Havis) on the sacrificial grass,\n17 17-27. He should sacrifice the two \u00c2gya portions (in the following way): Having taken four portions of \u00c2gya\u2014five portions are taken by the Bhrigus (or at least?) by the G\u00e2madagnyas [see Indische Studien, 10, 95]\u2014(he should make two oblations), to the north with (the formula), 'To Agni Sv\u00e2h\u00e2!' to the south with (the formula), 'To Soma Sv\u00e2h\u00e2!'\n18. Others (do it) conversely.\n19. Having 'spread under' \u00c2gya, he should cut off with the pot-ladle (portions) of the Havis from the middle and from the eastern side;\n10. trir devebhyah praksh\u00e2layed. 11. dvir manushyebhyah. 12. sakrit pitribhyo. 13. mekshanena pradakshinam ud\u00e2yuva\u00f1 srapayek. 14. khritam abhigh\u00e2ryodag udv\u00e2sya pratyabhigh\u00e2rayet. 15. sarv\u00e2ny evam hav\u00eemshi. 16. barhishy \u00e2s\u00e2dy\u00e2. 17. \u093dgyabh\u00e2gau guhuy\u00e2k katurgrih\u00eetam \u00e2gyam grih\u00eetv\u00e2 pa\u00f1k\u00e2vattam Bhrig\u00fbn\u00e2m G\u00e2madagny\u00e2n\u00e2m Agnaye sv\u00e2hety uttaratah Som\u00e2yeti dakshinato. 18. vipar\u00eetam itara. 19. \u00e2gyam upast\u00eerya havisho\u093dvadyen mekshanena madhy\u00e2t purast\u00e2d iti.\n20. One who takes five cut-off portions (see S\u00fbtra 17), also from the western side.\n21. After he has sprinkled (\u00c2gya) on (the cut-off portions), he anoints the places from which he has cut them off, (with \u00c2gya).\n22. (This anointing) is omitted at the Svishtakrit oblation.\n23. He should sacrifice with (the formula), 'To N.N. Sv\u00e2h\u00e2!'\u2014according to the god to whom the oblation belongs.\n24. At the Svishtakrit oblation he 'spreads under' once\u2014twice if he is a Bhrigu\u2014(cuts off) once (a portion) of the Havis, sprinkles (\u00c2gya) on it twice, and sacrifices it in a north-eastern direction with (the formula), 'To Agni Svishtakrit Sv\u00e2h\u00e2!\n25. Having put a piece of wood (on the fire),\n26. He should dip Darbha-blades (of the sacrificial grass strewn round the fire) three times, the points, the middle, and the roots, into the \u00c2gya or into the Havis with (the words), 'May the birds come, licking what has been anointed.' Then, after having sprinkled (those Darbha-blades with water), he should throw them into the fire, with (the verse), 'Thou who art the lord of cattle, Rudra, who walkest with the lines (of cattle), the manly one: do no harm to our cattle; let this be offered to thee. Sv\u00e2h\u00e2!'\n20. paskak ka pa\u00f1k\u00e2vatty. 21. abhigh\u00e2rya pratyanakty avad\u00e2nasth\u00e2n\u00e2ni. 22. na svishtakrito. 23. \u093dmushmai sv\u00e2heti guhuy\u00e2d yaddevatyam sy\u00e2t. 24. svishtakritah sakrid upast\u00eerya dvir Bhrig\u00fbn\u00e2m sakrid dhavisho [sic] dvir abhigh\u00e2ry\u00e2gnaye svishtakrite sv\u00e2heti pr\u00e2gud\u00eeky\u00e2m guhuy\u00e2t. 25. samidham \u00e2dh\u00e2ya. 26. darbh\u00e2n \u00e2gye havishi vi trir avadh\u00e2y\u00e2gramadhyam\u00fbl\u00e2ny aktam rih\u00e2n\u00e2 viyantu vaya ity abhyukshy\u00e2gn\u00e2v anuprahared yah pas\u00fbn\u00e2m adhipat\u00ee Rudras tantikaro vrish\u00e2 pas\u00fbn asm\u00e2kam m\u00e2 hims\u00eer etad astu hutan tava sv\u00e2heti.\n27. This (ceremony is called) Yag\u00f1av\u00e2stu.\n28 28. He should perform it at all (sacrifices).\n29 29-31. The remnants of the Havis he should take away in a northern direction, and should give them to the Brahman.\n30. A full vessel constitutes the fee for the sacrifice;\n31.
