Lay down Agni G\u00e2tavedas, the god, the priest. May the sacrifice which best encompasses the gods, proceed to-day in due order.\n3. We, the mortals, approaching thee, the attentive-minded god, for thy help, have thought of thy desirable aid.\n4. Agni, be intent on this\u2014on this our word 1, O strong one. As such, O strong jawed 2 lord of the house, the Atris strengthen thee by their praises; the Atris beautify thee by their prayers.\nThe Rishi is Visvas\u00e2man (see verse 1); the metre is the same.\u2014No verse of this hymn occurs in the other Samhit\u00e2s.\nNote 1.
