Griffith, [1899]\nWITH stedfast site and birthplace thou art stedfast: settle\n thou duly in thy stedfast birthplace, rejoicing in the\n Ukhya's first appearance.\n Here let the Asvins, the Adhvaryus, seat thee.\n 2 Nesting, intelligent, dripping with butter, in the auspicious\n seat of earth be seated.\n Let Rudras, Vasus welcome thee with praises: fill full these\n prayers for our propitious fortune.\n Here let the Asvins, the Adhvaryus, seat thee.\n 3 Here, Guard of Strength, with thine own powers be seated\n for the Gods\u2019 happiness and great enjoyment.\n Even as a father to his son, be friendly: with easy entrance\n enter with thy body. Here let the Asvins, the Adhvaryus\n seat thee:\n 4 Thou art the filling-stuff of earth called Apsas. May all the\n Gods celebrate thee with praises.\n Enriched with songs of praise, Prishthas and butter, sit here\n and give us wealth with store of children.\n Here let the Asvins, etc.\n 5 Upon the back of Aditi I lay thee the sky's supporter, pillar\n of the Quarters,\n Queen over creatures. Wave and drop of waters art thou;\n and Visvakarman is thy Rishi.\n 6 Sukra and Suchi, seasons, both, of summer\u2014thou art the\n innermost cement of Agni.\n May Heaven and Earth, may Waters, Plants and Agnis help,\n separate, accordant, my precedence.\nLet all the Agnis \u2019twixt the earth and heaven gather together\n round these summer seasons, as the Gods gather in their\n hosts round Indra,\n Firm, with that Deity, Angiras-like, be seated.\n 7 Associate with the Seasons, with the Modes with the Gods,\n with the health-establishing Gods\u2014may the Asvins the\n Adhvaryus settle thee here for Agni Vaisv\u00e2nara.\n Associate.............with the Vasus, etc.\n Associate.............with the Rudras, etc.\n Associate.............with the \u00c2dityas, etc.\n Associate.............with the Visvedevas, etc.\n 8 Guard thou my breath. Guard my out-breathing. Guard\n my through-breathing. Illume mine eye with far-reaching\n vision. Give power of hearing to mine ear. Pour\n forth waters. Quicken plants. Protect bipeds. Protect\n quadrupeds. Send rain from heaven.\n 9 The head is vital vigour. Praj\u00e2pati became the metre.\n Royalty is vital vigour, health-giving metre. The Supporter\n is vital vigour, the Sovran Lord the metre. Visvakarman\n is vital vigour, Parameshthin the metre. The he-goat is\n vital vigour, excellent the metre. The bull is vital vigour,\n extensive the metre. Man is vital vigour, languid the\n metre. The tiger is vital vigour, invincible the metre. The\n lion is vital vigour, covering the metre. The four-year\n bull is vital vigour, Brihat\u00ee the metre. The ox is vital\n vigour, Kakup the metre. The steer is vital vigour,\n Satobrihat\u00ee the metre.\n10 The bullock is vital vigour, Pankti the metre. The milch-cow\n is vital vigour, Jagat\u00ee the metre. The eighteen-month\n calf is vital vigour, Trishtup the metre. The two\n year old steer is vital vigour, Vir\u00e2j the metre. The\n thirty-month old ewe is vital vigour, G\u00e2yatr\u00ee the metre. The\n three year old steer is vital vigour, Ushnih the metre.\n The four year old ox is vital vigour, Anushtup the metre.\n Fill up the room, etc. The dappled kine, etc. All sacred\n songs, etc. are three texts repeated from XII. 54-56.\n See also XIII. 58.\n 11 Indra and Agni, in its place securely set the unshaking brick.\n Thou with thy back sunderest heaven and the broad earth\n and firmament.\n 12 On the air's back let Visvakarman set thee, thee the capacious,\n thee the far-extended.\n Control the air, fix firm the air, do thou the air no injury.\n For all breath, out-breath, through-breath, upward breathing,\n for high position, for prescribed observance,\n May V\u00e2yu keep thee safe with great well-being, with securest\n shelter. In the manner of Angiras, with that Deity\n lie steady.\n 13 Queen art thou, Quarter of the East. Wide-ruler, Quarter\n of the South. West Quarter, thou art Sovran. Thou\n Autocrat, Quarter of the North.\n Queen Paramount art thou, the Lofty Point.\n 14 On the air's back may Visvakarman set thee luminous.\n Control all light for all breath, for out-breath, up-breath,\n through-breath.\n Thy Lord is V\u00e2yu, with that Deity, Angiras-like, lie firm.\n 15 Two Rainy Seasons, Nabhas and Nabhasya\u2014thou art the\n innermost cement of Agni, etc. (as in XIII. 25).\n16 Isha and \u00dbrja, two Autumnal Seasons\u2014thou art the innermost\n cement of Agni, etc.\n 17 Preserve my life. Preserve my breath. Guard mine\n out-breath. Preserve mine eyes. Preserve mine ears.\n Strengthen my voice. Quicken my mind. Preserve my\n self. Vouchsafe me light.\n 18 M\u00e2 metre. The Being is saved; the Trayastrimsa Stoma.\n 27 Sahas, Sahasya, the two Winter Seasons\u2014thou art the innermost\n cement of Agni, etc. (as in XIII. 25).\n 28 With one they praised; creatures were produced. Praj\u00e2pati\n was over-lord.\n With three they praised; the Priesthood was created. Brihaspati\n was over-lord.\nWith five they praised; beings were created. The Lord of\n Beings was over-lord.\n With seven they praised; the Seven Rishis were created.\n Dh\u00e2tar was over-lord.\n 29 With nine they praised; the Fathers were created. Aditi\n was Sovran Lady.\n With eleven they praised; the Seasons were created. The\n Season-Lords were over-lords.\n With thirteen they praised; the Months were created. The\n Year was over-lord.\n With fifteen they praised; the Nobility was created. Indra\n was over-lord.\n With seventeen they praised; domestic animals were created.\n Brihaspati was over-lord.\n 30 With nineteen they praised; S\u00fbdra and Arya were created.\n Day and Night were Sovran Ladies.\n With twenty-one they praised; solid-hoofed animals were\n created. Varuna was over-lord.\n With twenty-three they praised; small animals were created.\n P\u00fbshan was over-lord.\n With twenty-five they praised; forest animals were created.\n V\u00e2yu was over-lord.\n With twenty-seven they praised; earth and heaven came\n apart. Vasus, Rudras, \u00c2dityas followed separately, so\n they were over-lords.\n 31 With twenty-nine they praised; Trees were created. Soma\n was over-lord.\n With thirty-one they praised; creatures were created.
