prosper by sacrifice.\n 2 May my breathing and my out-breathing, and my\n through-breathing and my vital spirit, and my thought and my\n reflection, and my voice and my mind, and my eye and\n my ear, and my ability and my strength prosper by\n sacrifice.\n 3 May my energy and my force, and my self and my body,\n and my shelter and my shield, and my limbs and my\n bones, and my joints and my members, and my life and\n my old age prosper by sacrifice.\n 4 May my pre\u00ebminence and my overlordship, and my wrath\n and my angry passion, and my violence and my impetuosity,\n and my lying down, and my fair dawn and my fair day prosper\n by sacrifice.\n 7 May my controller and my supporter, and my security and\n my firmness, and my goods and my pleasure, and my\n knowledge and my understanding, and my begetting and\n my propagation, and my plough and my harrow prosper\n by sacrifice.\n8 May my welfare and my comfort, and what I hold dear and\n what I desire, and my love and my gratification, and my\n enjoyment and my substance, and my happiness and my\n felicity, and my higher bliss and my fame prosper by\n sacrifice.\n 9 May my vigour and my pleasantness, and my milk and my\n sap, and my butter and my honey, and my meal in company\n and my drinking in company, and my ploughing\n and my husbandry, and my superiority and my pre\u00ebminence\n prosper by sacrifice.\n 10 May my wealth and my property, and my prosperity and\n my growth, and my pervading power and my lordship,\n and my abundance and my greater abundance, and my\n bad harvest and my unwasted crop, and my food and\n my satiety prosper by sacrifice.\n 11 May my gain and my future gain, and what I have and\n what I shall have, and my good road and my good path,\n and my success and my succeeding, and my achievement\n and my contrivance, and my thought and my good counsel\n prosper by sacrifice.\n 12 May my rice-plants and my barley, and my beans and my\n sesamum, and my kidney-beans and my vetches, and my\n millet and my Panicum Milliaceum, and my Panicum\n Frumentaceum and my wild rice, and my wheat and my\n lentils prosper by sacrifice.\n 13 May my stone and my clay, and my hills and my mountains,\n and my pebbles and my trees, and my gold and my bronze,\n and my copper and my iron, and my lead and my tin\n prosper by sacrifice.\n 14 May my fire and my water, and my creepers and my plants,\n and lily plants with culture-ripened fruit and my plants\n with fruit ripened without culture, and my domestic\n animals and my wild animals, and my substance and my\n future substance, and my belongings and my power be\n produced by sacrifice.\n 15 May my treasure and my dwelling, and my religious service\n and my ability to perform it, and my object and my\n course, and my way and my going prosper by sacrifice.\n 16 May my Agni and my Indra, and my Soma and my Indra,\n and my Savitar and my Indra, and my Sarasvat\u00ee and my\n Indra, and my P\u00fbshan and my Indra prosper by sacrifice.\n17 May my Mitra and my Indra, and my Varuna and my Indra,\n and my Dh\u00e2tar and my Indra, and my Maruts and my\n Indra, and my All-Gods and my Indra prosper by sacrifice.\n 18 May my earth and my Indra, and my Air and my Indra,\n and my Sky and my Indra, and my Half-months and my\n Indra, and my Lunar Mansions and my Indra, and my\n Sky-regions and my Indra prosper by sacrifice.\n 19 May my Amsu and my Rasmi, and my Adhipati and my\n Up\u00e2msu, and my Antary\u00e2ma and my Aindra-V\u00e2yava, and\n my Maitr\u00e2-Varuna, and my \u00c2svina and my Pratiprasth\u00e2na,\n and my Sukra and my Manthin proper by sacrifice.\n 20 May my \u00c2grayana and my Vaisvadeva, and my Dhruv\u00e2 and\n my Vaisv\u00e2nara, and my Aindr\u00e2gna and my Mah\u00e2vaisvadeva,\n and my Marutvat\u00eeya and my Nishkevalya, and my S\u00e2vitra\n and my S\u00e2rasvata, and my P\u00e2tn\u00eevata and my H\u00e2riyojana\n prosper by sacrifice.\n 21 May my ladles and my cups, and my V\u00e2yu, vessels and my\n Soma reservoirs, and my pressing-stones and my two press-boards,\n and my P\u00fbtabhrit and my \u00c2dhavan\u00eeya, and my\n altar and altar-grass, and my Avabhritha and my cries of\n Good-speed prosper by sacrifice.\n 22 May my Agni and my charms, and my Arka and my S\u00fbrya,\n and my Pr\u00e2na and my Asvamedha, and my Prithiv\u00ee and\n my Aditi, and my Diti and my Sky, and my fingers, powers,\n and sky-regions prosper by sacrifice.\n23 May my vow and my seasons, and my austere devotion, and\n my day and night, thighs and knees, and two Great\n Rathantaras prosper by sacrifice.\n 24 May me One and my Three, and my Three and my Five,\n and my Five and my Seven (and similarly up to thirty-three)\n prosper by sacrifice.\n 25 May my Four and my Eight and my Twelve (and similarly\n up to forty-eight) prosper by sacrifice\n 26 May my eighteen-months steer and my eighteen-months\n heifer, and my two-year bull and cow (and similarly up\n to four-year) prosper by sacrifice.\n 27 May my six-year bull and my six-year cow, and my bull and\n my barren cow, and my young bull and my calf-slipping\n cow, and my ox and my milch-cow prosper by sacrifice.\n 28 To strength, Hail! To Gain, Hail! To After-born, Hail! To\n Power, Hail! To Vasu, Hail! To the Lord of Days, Hail!\n To the Failing Day, Hail! To the Failing Sprung from\n the Transitory, Hail! To the Transitory sprung from the\n Final, Hail! To the Final Mundane, Hail! To the Lord\n of the World, Hail! To the Sovran Lord, Hail! To Praj\u00e2pati,\n Hail! This is thy kingdom. Thou art a guiding controller\n for the friend. Thee for vigour, thee for rain,\n thee for the sovran lordship of creatures.\n 29 May life succeed through sacrifice. May life-breath thrive\n by sacrifice. May the eye thrive by sacrifice. May the\n ear thrive by sacrifice. May the voice thrive by sacrifice.\n May the mind thrive by sacrifice. May the self thrive by\n sacrifice. May Brahma thrive by sacrifice. May light\n succeed by sacrifice. May heaven succeed by sacrifice.\n May the hymn thrive by sacrifice. May sacrifice thrive\n by sacrifice; And laud and sacrificial text, and verse of\n praise and S\u00e2ma chant, The Brihat and Rathantara.\nGods, we have gone to light. We have become the children\n of Praj\u00e2pati. We have become immortal.\n 30 In gain of wealth we celebrate, etc: = IX. 5.\n 31 This day come all the Maruts, all to aid us! Let all the fires\n be thoroughly enkindled.\n May the All-Gods come hither with protection. May we\n possess all property and riches.\n 32 May our strength fill the regions seven, fill the four distant\n places full.\n Here may our riches guard us with the All-Gods in the gain\n of wealth.\n 33 May strength to-day procure for us donations strength\n range the Gods together with the Seasons.\n Yea, strength hath made me rich in store of heroes. As\n lord of strength may I gain all the regions.\n 34 Strength be before us, in the midst among us. May strength\n exalt the Gods with our oblation.\n Yea, strength hath made me rich in store of heroes. As\n lord of strength may I gain all the regions.\n 35 With milk of Prithiv\u00ee do I unite me, unite myself with\n waters and with plants.\n As such may I gain strength, O Agni.\n 36 Store milk in earth and milk in plants, milk in the sky and\n milk in air.\n Teeming with milk for me he all the regions.\n 37 Thee by the radiant Savitar's impulsion, with arms of Asvins,\n with the hands of P\u00fbshan,\n Controlled by V\u00e2k Sarasvat\u00ee's Controller, with Agni's sole\n dominion I besprinkle.\n 38 Maintainer of Law, true by nature, Agni is the Gandharva.\n The plants are his Apsarases, namely Delights. May he\n protect this our Priesthood and Nobility. To him All-hail!\n Ave! To those All-hail!\n39 The Conjoined, Visvas\u00e2man, S\u00fbrya is the Gandharva. His\n motes are his Apsarases, Swift-moving. May he protect,\n etc., as in 38.\n 40 The Highly-Blessed, the Moon whose rays are like the Sun's,\n is the Gandharva. The Asterisms are his Apsarases, Luminous.\n May he protect, etc.\n 41 The Quick, All-reaching, Wind is the Gandharva. The\n Waters are his Apsarases, named Energies. May he\n protect, etc.\n 42 The Protecting, Strong-winged, Sacrifice is the Gandharva.\n Guerdons are his Apsarases, called Praisers. May he\n protect, etc.\n 43 The Lord of Creatures, Omnific, Mind is the Gandharva.\n Richas and S\u00e2mans are his Apsarases, called Wishings.\n May he protect, etc.\n 44 Lord of the World, Praj\u00e2pati, whose are the homes above\n and here,\n Give great protection unto these, the Priesthood and Nobility.\n 45 Thou art the vapoury sea that giveth moisture. Blow on\n me, thou, healthful and blessing-laden.\n Thou art the Maruts\u2019 own, the band of Maruts. Blow on\n me, etc.\n Seeker of aid art thou, receiving worship. Blow on me, etc.\n 46 Thy lights, O Agni, in the Sun, etc., as in XIII. 22.\n 47 Lights of yours in the Sun, O Gods, etc., as in XIII. 23.\n48 Give lustre to our holy priests, set lustre in our ruling chiefs\n Lustre to Vaisyas, S\u00fbdras: give, through lustre; lustre unto\n me.\n 49 I ask this of thee with my prayer, adoring: thy worshipper\n asks this with his oblations.\n Varuna, stay thou here and be not angry: steal not our life\n from us, O thou Wide-Ruler.\n 50 Heaven-like is Warmth, Hail! Heaven-like is Arka, Hail!\n Heaven-like is the Bright One, Hail! Heaven-like is Light,\n Hail! Heaven-like is S\u00fbrya, Hail!\n 51 I yoke with power and flowing butter Agni, divine, strong-\n pinioned, great with vital vigour.\n Through him may we approach the Bright One's station,\n ascending to the loftiest sky, to heaven.\n 52 With these thy two ne\u2019er-wasting feathered pinions wherewith\n thou drivest fiends away, O Agni,\n Let us fly to the regions of the pious whither have gone the\n first-born ancient Rishis.\n 53 The Drop, the powerful, the falcon, righteous, impetuous\n bird borne on his golden pinions,\n Great, stedfast, settled in the habitation\u2014to thee be reverence!\n Forbear to harm thee!\n 54 Centre of earth, heaven's head art thou, essence of waters\n and of plants.\n Eternal, far spread refuge. Homage to the Path!\n 55 Attached thou standest at the head of all the world. Thy\n heart is in the sea, thy life is in the floods. Give water:\n cleave the reservoir.\nHelp us with rain sent from the sky, Parjanya, firmament,\n or earth.\n 56 By Bhrigus and by Vasus hath prayer-granting sacrifice\n been paid.\n Come, Wealth, into the house of him our dear, our well-beloved\n one.\n 57 May Agni, served with sacrifice and gifts, protect our offered\n food:\n This homage be Good-speed to Gods!\n 58 That which hath flowed from purpose or from judgment, or\n gathered from the wind or from the vision,\n Follow ye to the region of the pious whither have gone the\n first-born ancient Rishis.\n 59 To thee I trust this man. Celestial Dwelling! treasure which\n J\u00e2tavedas shall bring hither.\n After you will the Sacrificer follow. Here recognize him in\n the highest heaven.\n 60 Acknowledge him, ye Gods, in highest heaven. Ye who are\n present, know the shape he weareth.\n When he approacheth by the God-ward pathways, reveal to\n him the meed of pious actions.\n 61 Wake up, O Agni, etc., as in XV. 54.\n 62 Convey our sacrifice to heaven, etc., as in XV. 55,\n 63 With Darbha-bunch, with fencing-wood, with spoon, with\n altar, holy grass,\n With laud, lead this our sacrifice to go to heaven among\n the Gods.\n 64 Our gifts, our charitable grants, our pious works, our fees to\n priests,\n May the Omnific's Agni set all this among the Gods in heaven.\n65 There where all never-failing streams of honey and of butter\n flow,\n May Agni, Visvakarman's own, place us in heaven among\n the Gods.\n 66 Agni am who know by birth all creatures. Mine eye is\n butter, in my mouth is nectar.\n I am the triple light, the region's meter: exhaustless heat\n am I, named burnt oblation.\n 67 Praise-verses, sacrificial texts, and chanted hymns am I in name.\n Thou art the best of all the Fires among the fivefold race\n of man\n That burn upon this earth of ours. Speed thou us on to\n lengthened life.\n 68 O Indra, for the strength that slays Vritra and conquers in\n the fight\n We torn thee hitherward to us.\n 69 Thou, Indra, much-invoked, didst crush to pieces, Kun\u00e2ru,\n handless fiend who dwelt with D\u00e2nus.\n Thou with might, Indra, smotest dead the scorner, the footless\n Vritra as he waxed in vigour.\n 70 O Indra, beat our foes away, etc. as in VIII. 44.\n 71 Like some dread wild beast roaming on the mountain thou\n hast approached us from the farthest distance.\n Whetting thy bolt and thy sharp blade, O Indra, crush thou\n the foes and scatter those who hate us.\n 72 To aid us let Vaisv\u00e2nara come from the distance far away:\n Come Agni, to our eulogies!\n 73 Sought in the sky, sought on the earth, sought after, all\n plants that grow on ground hath Agni entered.\n May Agni, may Vaisv\u00e2nara with vigour, sought for, by day\n and night from harm preserve us.\n74 Help its that we may gain this wish, O Agni, gain riches,\n Wealthy One! with store of heroes.\n Desiring strength from thee may we be strengthened, and\n win, Eternal! thine eternal glory.\n 75 Approaching with raised hands and adoration, we have this\n day fulfilled for thee thy longing.\n Worship the Gods with most devoted spirit as Priest with\n no unfriendly thought.
