Griffith, [1899]\nSPLENDOUR art thou, bright, deathless, life-protector.\n Protector of my life be thou.\n By impulse of God Savitar I take thee with arms of Asvins,\n with the hands of P\u00fbshan.\n 2 This girdle, which in their religious meetings sages assumed \n in earlier time of worship,\n Is present with us here at this libation, in the Law's hymn,\n proclaiming rich abundance.\n 3 Famous art thou, thou art the world, controller and\n upholder thou.\n Go, consecrate by Sv\u00e2h\u00e2 to Agni Vaisv\u00e2nara widely-famed.\n 4 For Gods and for Praj\u00e2pati I fit thee. For Gods and for\n Praj\u00e2pati, O Brahman,\n Will I tie up the horse. Thence may I prosper! Binding\n him for Praj\u00e2pati and Gods be thou successful.\n 5 Thee welcome to Praj\u00e2pati I sprinkle. I sprinkle thee\n welcome to Indra-Agni. I sprinkle thee acceptable to V\u00e2yu.\n Thee welcome to the All-Gods I besprinkle. Hail to him in action!\n Hail to what he has done!\n 9 May we attain that excellent glory of Savitar the God:\n So may he stimulate our prayers.\n 10 For our protection I invoke the golden-handed Savitar:\n He knoweth, as a God, the place.\n 11 We specially invoke the grace of Savitar, observant God,\n The great good-will that gives true boons.\n 12 We seek the eulogy and gift of Savitar who strengthens grace,\n Yea, of the God who knows our thoughts.\n 13 I invocate the heroes\u2019 Lord, free-giving Savitar, and call\n The Cheerer to the feast of Gods.\n14 The judgment of bright Savitar, that cheers the All-Gods\u2019\n company,\n With prayer we estimate as bliss.\n 15 Wake Agni with thy laud and set the Immortal One aflame,\n let him\n Bestow our offerings on the Gods.\n 16 Oblation-bearer, well-inclined, immortal, eager Messenger,\n Agni comes near us with the thought.\n 17 Agni, Envoy, I place in front, the oblation-bearer I address:\n Here let him seat the Deities.\n 18 Yea, Pavam\u00e2na, thou didst generate the Sun and spread\n the moisture out with power,\n Basting to us with plenty vivified with milk.\n 19 Mighty through thy dam, eminent through thy sire, thou\n art a horse, thou art a steed, thou art a courser, thou\n art a comfort, thou art a racer, thou art a yoke-horse,\n thou art a strong steed, thou art a stallion, thou art\n manly-minded. Thou art called Yayu, thou art called\n Sisu. Follow thou the flight of the \u00c2dityas.\n Gods, Warders of the Regions, protect for the Gods this\n horse besprinkled for sacrifice.\n Here is delight. Here take thy pleasure. Hail to Vishnu Sipivishta!\n 21 Let every mortal man elect, etc., repeated from IV. 8.\n 22 O Brahman, let there be born in the kingdom the Brahman\n illustrious for religious knowledge; let there be born the\n R\u00e2janya, heroic, skilled archer, piercing with shafts,\n mighty warrior; the cow giving abundant milk; the ox\n good at carrying; the swift courser; the industrious\n woman. May Parjanya send rain according to our desire;\n may our fruit-bearing plants ripen; may acquisition and\n preservation of property be secured to us.\n 23 Hail to vital breath!
