Mecca.)\nIN the name of the merciful and compassionate God.\nREAD, in the name of thy Lord!\nWho created man from congealed blood!\nRead, for thy Lord is most generous!\nWho taught the pen!\nTaught man what he did not know!\nNay, verily, man is indeed outrageous at seeing himself get rich!\nVerily, unto thy Lord is the return!\nHast thou considered him who forbids a servant when he prays?\nHast thou considered if he were in guidance or bade piety?\nHast thou considered if he said it was a lie, and turned his back?\nDid he not know that God can see?\nNay, surely, if he do not desist we will drag him by the forelock!-the lying sinful forelock!\nSo let him call his counsel: we will call the guards of hell!\nNay, obey him not, but adore and draw nigh!","title":"96. al-`Alaq: The Clot (tr.
