Pickthall\n 44. ad-Dukhan: The Evident Smoke\n 1\u00a0Ha. Mim. \n 2\u00a0By the Scripture that maketh plain \n 3\u00a0Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - \n 4\u00a0Whereon every wise command is made clear \n 5\u00a0As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - \n 6\u00a0A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, \n 7\u00a0Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. \n 8\u00a0There is no God save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. \n 9\u00a0Nay, but they play in doubt. \n 10\u00a0But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke \n 11\u00a0That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. \n 12\u00a0(Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. \n 13\u00a0How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, \n 14\u00a0And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman ? \n 15\u00a0Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). \n 16\u00a0On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. \n 17\u00a0And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, \n 18\u00a0Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. \n 19\u00a0And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. \n 20\u00a0And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. \n 21\u00a0And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. \n 22\u00a0And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. \n 23\u00a0Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, \n 24\u00a0And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. \n 25\u00a0How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, \n 26\u00a0And the cornlands and the goodly sites \n 27\u00a0And pleasant things wherein they took delight! \n 28\u00a0Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; \n 29\u00a0And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. \n 30\u00a0And We delivered the Children of Israel from the shameful doom; \n 31\u00a0(We delivered them) from Pharaoh. Lo! he was a tyrant of the wanton ones. \n 32\u00a0And We chose them, purposely, above (all) creatures. \n 33\u00a0And We gave them portents wherein was a clear trial. \n 34\u00a0Lo! these, forsooth, are saying: \n 35\u00a0There is naught but our first death, and we shall not be raised again. \n 36\u00a0Bring back our fathers, if ye speak the truth! \n 37\u00a0Are they better, or the folk of Tubb'a and those before them ? We destroyed them, for surely they were guilty. \n 38\u00a0And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, in play. \n 39\u00a0We created them not save with truth; but most of them know not. \n 40\u00a0Assuredly the Day of Decision is the term for all of them, \n 41\u00a0A day when friend can in naught avail friend, nor can they be helped, \n 42\u00a0Save him on whom Allah hath mercy. Lo! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. \n 43\u00a0Lo! the tree of Zaqqum, \n 44\u00a0The food of the sinner! \n 45\u00a0Like molten brass, it seetheth in their bellies \n 46\u00a0As the seething of boiling water. \n 47\u00a0(And it will be said): Take him and drag him to the midst of hell, \n 48\u00a0Then pour upon his head the torment of boiling water. \n 49\u00a0(Saying): Taste! Lo! thou wast forsooth the mighty, the noble! \n 50\u00a0Lo! this is that whereof ye used to doubt. \n 51\u00a0Lo! those who kept their duty will be in a place secured. \n 52\u00a0Amid gardens and watersprings, \n 53\u00a0Attired in silk and silk embroidery, facing one another. \n 54\u00a0Even so (it will be). And We shall wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. \n 55\u00a0They call therein for every fruit in safety. \n 56\u00a0They taste not death therein, save the first death. And He hath saved them from the doom of hell, \n 57\u00a0A bounty from thy Lord. That is the supreme triumph. \n 58\u00a0And We have made (this Scripture) easy in thy language only that they may heed. \n 59\u00a0Wait then (O Muhammad).
