Pickthall\n 54. al-Qamar: The Moon\n 1\u00a0The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. \n 2\u00a0And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. \n 3\u00a0They denied (the Truth) and followed their own lusts. Yet everything will come to a decision \n 4\u00a0And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, \n 5\u00a0Effective wisdom; but warnings avail not. \n 6\u00a0So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) on the day when the Summoner summoneth unto a painful thing. \n 7\u00a0With downcast eyes, they come forth from the graves as they were locusts spread abroad, \n 8\u00a0Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. \n 9\u00a0The folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed. \n 10\u00a0So he cried unto his Lord, saying: I am vanquished, so give help. \n 11\u00a0Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water \n 12\u00a0And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. \n 13\u00a0And We carried him upon a thing of planks and nails, \n 14\u00a0That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected. \n 15\u00a0And verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth ? \n 16\u00a0Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! \n 17\u00a0And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth ? \n 18\u00a0(The tribe of) A'ad rejected warnings. Then how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings. \n 19\u00a0Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, \n 20\u00a0Sweeping men away as though they were uprooted trunks of palm-trees. \n 21\u00a0Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! \n 22\u00a0And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth ? \n 23\u00a0(The tribe of) Thamud rejected warnings \n 24\u00a0For they said; Is it a mortal man, alone among us, that we are to follow ? Then indeed we should fall into error and madness. \n 25\u00a0Hath the remembrance been given unto him alone among us ? Nay, but he is a rash liar. \n 26\u00a0(Unto their warner it was said): To-morrow they will know who is the rash liar. \n 27\u00a0Lo! We are sending the she-camel as a test for them; so watch them and have patience; \n 28\u00a0And inform them that the water is to be shared between (her and) them. Every drinking will be witnessed. \n 29\u00a0But they call their comrade and he took and hamstrung (her). \n 30\u00a0Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! \n 31\u00a0Lo! We sent upon them one Shout, and they became as the dry twigs (rejected by) the builder of a cattle-fold. \n 32\u00a0And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth ? \n 33\u00a0The folk of Lot rejected warnings. \n 34\u00a0Lo! We sent a storm of stones upon them (all) save the family of Lot, whom We rescued in the last watch of the night, \n 35\u00a0As grace from Us. Thus We reward him who giveth thanks. \n 36\u00a0And he indeed had warned them of Our blow, but they did doubt the warnings. \n 37\u00a0They even asked of him his guests for an ill purpose. Then We blinded their eyes (and said): Taste now My punishment after My warnings! \n 38\u00a0And in truth the punishment decreed befell them early in the morning. \n 39\u00a0Now taste My punishment after My warnings! \n 40\u00a0And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth ? \n 41\u00a0And warnings came in truth unto the house of Pharaoh \n 42\u00a0Who denied Our revelations, every one. Therefore We grasped them with the grasp of the Mighty, the Powerful. \n 43\u00a0Are your disbelievers better than those, or have ye some immunity in the scriptures ? \n 44\u00a0Or say they: We are a host victorious ? \n 45\u00a0The hosts will all be routed and will turn and flee. \n 46\u00a0Nay, but the Hour (of doom) is their appointed tryst, and the Hour will be more wretched and more bitter (than their earthly failure). \n 47\u00a0Lo! the guilty are in error and madness. \n 48\u00a0On the day when they are dragged into the Fire upon their faces (it is said unto them): Feel the touch of hell. \n 49\u00a0Lo! We have created every thing by measure. \n 50\u00a0And Our commandment is but one (commandment), as the twinkling of an eye. \n 51\u00a0And verily We have destroyed your fellows; but is there any that remembereth ? \n 52\u00a0And every thing they did is in the scriptures, \n 53\u00a0And every small and great thing is recorded. \n 54\u00a0Lo! the righteous will dwell among gardens and rivers, \n 55\u00a0Firmly established in the favour of a Mighty King.","title":"The Meaning of the Glorious Qur'\u00e2n,: 54. al-Qamar: The Moon","type":"page"}
