Pickthall\n 69. al-Haqqah: The Inevitable\n 1\u00a0The Reality! \n 2\u00a0What is the Reality ? \n 3\u00a0Ah, what will convey unto thee what the reality is! \n 4\u00a0(The tribes of) Thamud and A'ad disbelieved in the judgment to come. \n 5\u00a0As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the lightning. \n 6\u00a0And as for A'ad, they were destroyed by a fierce roaring wind, \n 7\u00a0Which He imposed on them for seven long nights and eight long days so that thou mightest have seen men lying overthrown, as they were hollow trunks of palm- trees. \n 8\u00a0Canst thou (O Muhammad) see any remnant of them ? \n 9\u00a0And Pharaoh and those before him, and the communities that were destroyed, brought error, \n 10\u00a0And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, therefor did He grip them with a tightening grip. \n 11\u00a0Lo! when the waters rose, We carried you upon the ship \n 12\u00a0That We might make it a memorial for you, and that remembering ears (that heard the story) might remember. \n 13\u00a0And when the trumpet shall sound one blast \n 14\u00a0And the earth with the mountains shall be lifted up and crushed with one crash, \n 15\u00a0Then, on that day will the Event befall. \n 16\u00a0And the heaven will split asunder, for that day it will be frail. \n 17\u00a0And the angels will be on the sides thereof, and eight will uphold the Throne of thy Lord that day, above them. \n 18\u00a0On that day ye will be exposed; not a secret of you will be hidden. \n 19\u00a0Then, as for him who is given his record in his right hand, he will say: Take, read my book! \n 20\u00a0Surely I knew that I should have to meet my reckoning. \n 21\u00a0Then he will be in blissful state \n 22\u00a0In a high garden \n 23\u00a0Whereof the clusters are in easy reach. \n 24\u00a0(And it will be said unto those therein): Eat and drink at ease for that which ye sent on before you in past days. \n 25\u00a0But as for him who is given his record in his left hand, he will say: Oh, would that I had not been given my book \n 26\u00a0And knew not what my reckoning! \n 27\u00a0Oh, would that it had been death! \n 28\u00a0My wealth hath not availed me, \n 29\u00a0My power hath gone from me. \n 30\u00a0(It will be said): Take him and fetter him \n 31\u00a0And then expose him to hell-fire \n 32\u00a0And then insert him in a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits. \n 33\u00a0Lo! He used not to believe in Allah the Tremendous, \n 34\u00a0And urged not on the feeding of the wretched. \n 35\u00a0Therefor hath he no lover here this day, \n 36\u00a0Nor any food save filth \n 37\u00a0Which none but sinners eat. \n 38\u00a0But nay! I swear by all that ye see \n 39\u00a0And all that ye see not \n 40\u00a0That it is indeed the speech of an illustrious messenger. \n 41\u00a0It is not poet's speech - little is it that ye believe! \n 42\u00a0Nor diviner's speech - little is it that ye remember! \n 43\u00a0It is a revelation from the Lord of the Worlds. \n 44\u00a0And if he had invented false sayings concerning Us, \n 45\u00a0We assuredly had taken him by the right hand \n 46\u00a0And then severed his life-artery, \n 47\u00a0And not one of you could have held Us off from him. \n 48\u00a0And lo! it is a warrant unto those who ward off (evil). \n 49\u00a0And lo! We know that some among you will deny (it). \n 50\u00a0And lo! it is indeed an anguish for the disbelievers. \n 51\u00a0And lo! it is absolute truth. \n 52\u00a0So glorify the name of thy Tremendous Lord.","title":"The Meaning of the Glorious Qur'\u00e2n,: 69. al-Haqqah: The Inevitable","type":"page"}
