Pickthall\n 78. an-Naba': The Tidings\n 1\u00a0Whereof do they question one another ? \n 2\u00a0(It is) of the awful tidings, \n 3\u00a0Concerning which they are in disagreement. \n 4\u00a0Nay, but they will come to know! \n 5\u00a0Nay, again, but they will come to know! \n 6\u00a0Have We not made the earth an expanse, \n 7\u00a0And the high hills bulwarks ? \n 8\u00a0And We have created you in pairs, \n 9\u00a0And have appointed your sleep for repose, \n 10\u00a0And have appointed the night as a cloak, \n 11\u00a0And have appointed the day for livelihood. \n 12\u00a0And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), \n 13\u00a0And have appointed a dazzling lamp, \n 14\u00a0And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, \n 15\u00a0Thereby to produce grain and plant, \n 16\u00a0And gardens of thick foliage. \n 17\u00a0Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, \n 18\u00a0A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, \n 19\u00a0And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, \n 20\u00a0And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. \n 21\u00a0Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, \n 22\u00a0A home for the rebellious. \n 23\u00a0They will abide therein for ages. \n 24\u00a0Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink \n 25\u00a0Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: \n 26\u00a0Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). \n 27\u00a0For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; \n 28\u00a0They called Our revelations false with strong denial. \n 29\u00a0Everything have We recorded in a Book. \n 30\u00a0So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. \n 31\u00a0Lo! for the duteous is achievement - \n 32\u00a0Gardens enclosed and vineyards, \n 33\u00a0And maidens for companions, \n 34\u00a0And a full cup. \n 35\u00a0There hear they never vain discourse, nor lying - \n 36\u00a0Requital from thy Lord - a gift in payment - \n 37\u00a0Lord of the heavens and the earth, and (all) that is between them, the Beneficent; with Whom none can converse. \n 38\u00a0On the day when the angels and the Spirit stand arrayed, they speak not, saving him whom the Beneficent alloweth and who speaketh right. \n 39\u00a0That is the True Day. So whoso will should seek recourse unto his Lord. \n 40\u00a0Lo!
