Yas-aluka ahlu alkitabi an tunazzila AAalayhim kitaban mina alssama-i faqad saaloo moosa akbara min thalika faqaloo arina Allaha jahratan faakhathat-humu alssaAAiqatu bithulmihim thumma ittakhathoo alAAijla min baAAdi ma jaat-humu albayyinatu faAAafawna AAan thalika waatayna moosa sultanan mubeenan\n153. The People of the Book\n Ask thee to cause\n A book to descend to them\n From heaven: indeed\n They asked Moses\n For an even greater\n (Miracle), for they said:\n \"Show us God in public,\"\n But they were dazed\n For their presumption,\n With thunder and lightning.\n Yet they worshipped the calf\n Even after Clear Signs\n Had come to them;\n Even so We forgave them;\n And gave Moses manifest\n Proofs of authority.\n154. WarafaAAna fawqahumu alttoora bimeethaqihim waqulna lahumu odkhuloo albaba sujjadan waqulna lahum la taAAdoo fee alssabti waakhathna minhum meethaqan ghaleethan\n154. And for their Covenant\n We raised over them\n (The towering height)\n Of Mount (Sinai);\n And (on another occasion)\n We said: \"Enter the gate\n With humility\"; and (once again)\n We commanded them:\n \"Transgress not in the matter\n Of the Sabbath.\"\n And We took from them\n A solemn Covenant.\n155. Fabima naqdihim meethaqahum wakufrihim bi-ayati Allahi waqatlihimu al-anbiyaa bighayri haqqin waqawlihim quloobuna ghulfun bal tabaAAa Allahu AAalayha bikufrihim fala yu/minoona illa qaleelan\n155. (They have incurred divine\n Displeasure): in that they\n Broke their Covenant;\n That they rejected the Signs\n Of God; that they slew\n The Messengers in defiance\n Of right; that they said,\n \"Our hearts are the wrappings\n (Which preserve God's Word;\n We need no more)\";\u2014nay,\n God hath set the seal on their hearts\n For their blasphemy,\n And little is it they believe;\u2014\n156. Wabikufrihim waqawlihim AAala maryama buhtanan AAatheeman\n156. That they rejected Faith;\n That they uttered against Mary\nA grave false charge;\n157. Waqawlihim inna qatalna almaseeha AAeesa ibna maryama rasoola Allahi wama qataloohu wama salaboohu walakin shubbiha lahum wa-inna allatheena ikhtalafoo feehi lafee shakkin minhu ma lahum bihi min AAilmin illa ittibaAAa alththanni wama qataloohu yaqeenan\n157. That they said (in boast),\n \"We killed Christ Jesus\n The son of Mary,\n The Apostle of God\";\u2014\n But they killed him not,\n Nor crucified him,\n But so it was made\n To appear to them,\n And those who differ\n Therein are full of doubts,\n With no (certain) knowledge,\n But only conjecture to follow,\n For of a surety\n They killed him not:\u2014\n158. Bal rafaAAahu Allahu ilayhi wakana Allahu AAazeezan hakeeman\n158. Nay, God raised him up\n Unto Himself; and God\n Is Exalted in Power, Wise;\u2014\n159. Wa-in min ahli alkitabi illa layu/minanna bihi qabla mawtihi wayawma alqiyamati yakoonu AAalayhim shaheedan\n159. And there is none\n Of the People of the Book\nBut must believe in him\n Before his death;\n And on the Day of Judgment\n He will be a witness\n Against them;\u2014\n160. Fabithulmin mina allatheena hadoo harramna AAalayhim tayyibatin ohillat lahum wabisaddihim AAan sabeeli Allahi katheeran\n160. For the iniquity of the Jews\n We made unlawful for them\n Certain (foods) good and wholesome\n Which had been lawful for them;\u2014\n In that they hindered many\n From God's Way;\u2014\n161. Waakhthihimu alrriba waqad nuhoo AAanhu waaklihim amwala alnnasi bialbatili waaAAtadna lilkafireena minhum AAathaban aleeman\n161. That they took usury,\n Though they were forbidden;\n And that they devoured\n Men's substance wrongfully;\u2014\n We have prepared for those\n Among them who reject Faith\n A grievous punishment.\n162. Lakini alrrasikhoona fee alAAilmi minhum waalmu/minoona yu/minoona bima onzila ilayka wama onzila min qablika waalmuqeemeena alssalata waalmu/toona alzzakata waalmu/minoona biAllahi waalyawmi al-akhiri ola-ika sanu/teehim ajran AAatheeman\n162. But those among them\n Who are well-grounded in knowledge,\n And the Believers,\n Believe in what hath been\n Revealed to thee and what was\n Revealed before thee:\n And (especially) those\n Who establish regular prayer\n And practise regular charity\n And believe in God\n And in the Last Day:\n To them shall We soon\n Give a great reward.","title":"The Quran: S\u016bra IV.: Nis\u0101a, or The Women.: Section 22 (153-162)","type":"page"}
