Wama arsalna fee qaryatin min nabiyyin illa akhathna ahlaha bialba/sa-i waalddarra-i laAAallahum yaddarraAAoona\n94. Whenever We sent a prophet\n To a town, We took up\n Its people in suffering\n And adversity, in order\n That they might learn humility.\n95. Thumma baddalna makana alssayyi-ati alhasanata hatta AAafaw waqaloo qad massa abaana alddarrao waalssarrao faakhathnahum baghtatan wahum la yashAAuroona\n95. Then We changed their suffering\n Into prosperity, until they grew\n And multiplied, and began\n To say: \"Our fathers (too)\n Were touched by suffering\n And affluence\"\u2026 Behold!\n We called them to account\n Of a sudden, while they\n Realised not (their peril).\n96. Walaw anna ahla alqura amanoo waittaqaw lafatahna AAalayhim barakatin mina alssama-i waal-ardi walakin kaththaboo faakhathnahum bima kanoo yaksiboona\n96. If the people of the towns\n Had but believed and feared\n God, We should indeed\n Have opened out to them\n(All kinds of) blessings\n From heaven and earth;\n But they rejected (the truth),\n And We brought them\n To book for their misdeeds.\n97. Afaamina ahlu alqura an ya/tiyahum ba/suna bayatan wahum na-imoona\n97. Did the people of the towns\n Feel secure against the coming\n Of Our wrath by night\n While they were asleep?\n98. Awa amina ahlu alqura an ya/tiyahum ba/suna duhan wahum yalAAaboona\n98. Or else did they feel\n Secure against its coming\n In broad daylight while they\n Played about (care-free)?\n99. Afaaminoo makra Allahi fala ya/manu makra Allahi illa alqawmu alkhasiroona\n99. Did they then feel secure\n Against the Plan of God?\u2014\n But no one can feel\n Secure from the Plan\n Of God, except those\n (Doomed) to ruin!","title":"The Quran: S\u016bra VII.: A\u2019r\u0101f, or the Heights: Section 12 (94-99)","type":"page"}
