Laqad kana fee yoosufa wa-ikhwatihi ayatun lilssa-ileena\n7. Verily in Joseph and his brethren\n Are Signs (or Symbols)\nFor Seekers (after Truth).\n8. Ith qaloo layoosufu waakhoohu ahabbu ila abeena minna wanahnu AAusbatun inna abana lafee dalalin mubeenin\n8. They said: \"Truly Joseph\n And his brother are loved\n More by our father than we:\n But we are a goodly body!\n Really our father is obviously\n Wandering (in his mind)!\n9. Oqtuloo yoosufa awi itrahoohu ardan yakhlu lakum wajhu abeekum watakoonoo min baAAdihi qawman saliheena\n9. \"Slay ye Joseph or cast him out\n To some (unknown) land,\n That so the favour\n Of your father may be\n Given to you alone:\n (There will be time enough)\n For you to be righteous after that!\"\n10. Qala qa-ilun minhum la taqtuloo yoosufa waalqoohu fee ghayabati aljubbi yaltaqithu baAAdu alssayyarati in kuntum faAAileena\n10. Said one of them: \"Slay not\n Joseph, but if ye must\n Do something, throw him down\n To the bottom of the well:\n He will be picked up\n By some caravan of travellers.\"\n11. Qaloo ya abana ma laka la ta/manna AAala yoosufa wa-inna lahu lanasihoona\n11. They said: \"O our father!\n Why dost thou not\n Trust us with Joseph,\n Seeing we are indeed\n His sincere well-wishers?\n12. Arsilhu maAAana ghadan yartaAA wayalAAab wa-inna lahu lahafithoona\n12. \"Send him with us tomorrow\n To enjoy himself and play,\n And we shall take\n Every care of him.\"\n13. Qala innee layahzununee an thathhaboo bihi waakhafu an ya/kulahu alththi/bu waantum AAanhu ghafiloona\n13. (Jacob) said: \"Really\n It saddens me that ye\n Should take him away:\n I fear lest the wolf\n Should devour him\n While ye attend not\n To him.\"\n14. Qaloo la-in akalahu alththi/bu wanahnu AAusbatun inna ithan lakhasiroona\n14. They said: \"If the wolf\n Were to devour him\n While we are (so large) a party,\n Then should we indeed\n (First) have perished ourselves!\"\n15. Falamma thahaboo bihi waajmaAAoo an yajAAaloohu fee ghayabati aljubbi waawhayna ilayhi latunabi-annahum bi-amrihim hatha wahum la yashAAuroona\n15. So they did take him away,\n And they all agreed\nTo throw him down\n To the bottom of the well:\n And We put into his heart\n (This Message): \"Of a surety\n Thou shalt (one day)\n Tell them the truth\n Of this their affair\n While they know (thee) not\"\n16. Wajaoo abahum AAishaan yabkoona\n16. Then they came\n To their father\n In the early part\n Of the night,\n Weeping.\n17. Qaloo ya abana inna thahabna nastabiqu watarakna yoosufa AAinda mataAAina faakalahu alththi/bu wama anta bimu/minin lana walaw kunna sadiqeena\n17. They said: \"O our father!\n We went racing with one another,\n And left Joseph with our things;\n And the wolf devoured him.\u2026\n But thou wilt never believe us\n Even though we tell the truth.\n18. Wajaoo AAala qameesihi bidamin kathibin qala bal sawwalat lakum anfusukum amran fasabrun jameelun waAllahu almustaAAanu AAala ma tasifoona\n18. They stained his shirt\n With false blood. He said:\n\"Nay, but your minds\n Have made up a tale\n (That may pass) with you.\n (For me) patience is most fitting:\n Against that which ye assert,\n It is God (alone)\n Whose help can be sought\"\u2026\n19. Wajaat sayyaratun faarsaloo waridahum faadla dalwahu qala ya bushra hatha ghulamun waasarroohu bidaAAatan waAllahu AAaleemun bima yaAAmaloona\n19. Then there came a caravan\n Of travellers: they sent\n Their water-carrier (for water),\n And he let down his bucket\n (Into the well)\u2026 He said:\n \"Ah there! Good news!\n Here is a (fine) young man!\"\n So they concealed him\n As a treasure! But God\n Knoweth well all that they do!\n20. Washarawhu bithamanin bakhsin darahima maAAdoodatin wakanoo feehi mina alzzahideena\n20.
