Walaqad atayna luqmana alhikmata ani oshkur lillahi waman yashkur fa-innama yashkuru linafsihi waman kafara fa-inna Allaha ghaniyyun hameedun\n12. We bestowed (in the past)\n Wisdom on Luqm\u0101n:\n \"Show (thy) gratitude to God.\"\n Any who is (so) grateful\n Does so to the profit\n Of his own soul: but if\n Any is ungrateful, verily\n God is free of all wants,\n Worthy of all praise.\n13. Wa-ith qala luqmanu liibnihi wahuwa yaAAithuhu ya bunayya la tushrik biAllahi inna alshshirka lathulmun AAatheemun\n13. Behold, Luqm\u0101n said\n To his son by way of\nInstruction: \"O my son!\n Join not in worship\n (Others) with God: for\n False worship is indeed\n The highest wrong-doing.\"\n14. Wawassayna al-insana biwalidayhi hamalat-hu ommuhu wahnan AAala wahnin wafisaluhu fee AAamayni ani oshkur lee waliwalidayka ilayya almaseeru\n14. And We have enjoined on man\n (To be good) to his parents:\n In travail upon travail\n Did his mother bear him,\n And in years twain\n Was his weaning: (hear\n The command), \"Show gratitude\n To Me and to thy parents:\n To Me is (thy final) Goal.\n15. Wa-in jahadaka AAala an tushrika bee ma laysa laka bihi AAilmun fala tutiAAhuma wasahibhuma fee alddunya maAAroofan waittabiAA sabeela man anaba ilayya thumma ilayya marjiAAukum faonabbi-okum bima kuntum taAAmaloona\n15. \"But if they strive\n To make thee join\n In worship with Me\n Things of which thou hast\n No knowledge, obey them not;\n Yet bear them company\n In this life with justice\n (And consideration), and follow\n The way of those who\n Turn to Me (in love):\n In the End the return\n Of you all is to Me,\n And I will tell you\n The truth (and meaning)\n Of all that ye did.\"\n16. Ya bunayya innaha in taku mithqala habbatin min khardalin fatakun fee sakhratin aw fee alssamawati aw fee al-ardi ya/ti biha Allahu inna Allaha lateefun khabeerun\n16. \"O my son!\" (said Luqm\u0101n),\n \"If there be (but) the weight\n Of a mustard-seed and\n It were (hidden) in a rock,'\n Or (anywhere) in the heavens or\n On earth, God will bring it\n Forth: for God understands'\n The finest mysteries, (and)\n Is well-acquainted (with them).\n17. Ya bunayya aqimi alssalata wa/mur bialmaAAroofi wainha AAani almunkari waisbir AAala ma asabaka inna thalika min AAazmi al-omoori\n17. \"O my son! establish\n Regular prayer, enjoin what is\n Just, and forbid what is wrong:\n And bear with patient constancy\n Whate\u2019er betide thee; for this\n Is firmness (of purpose)\n In (the conduct of) affairs.\n18. Wala tusaAAAAir khaddaka lilnnasi wala tamshi fee al-ardi marahan inna Allaha la yuhibbu kulla mukhtalin fakhoorin\n18. \"And swell not thy cheek\n (For pride) at men,\n Nor walk in insolence\n Through the earth;\n For God loveth not\n Any arrogant boaster.\n19.
