Walaqad arsalna moosa bi-ayatina ila firAAawna wamala-ihi faqala innee rasoolu rabbi alAAalameena\n46. We did send Moses\n Aforetime, with Our Signs,\nTo Pharaoh and his Chiefs:\n He said, \"I am an apostle\n Of the Lord of the Worlds.\"\n47. Falamma jaahum bi-ayatina itha hum minha yadhakoona\n47. But when he came to them\n With Our Signs, behold,\n They ridiculed them.\n48. Wama nureehim min ayatin illa hiya akbaru min okhtiha waakhathnahum bialAAathabi laAAallahum yarjiAAoona\n48. We showed them Sign\n After Sign, each greater\n Than, its fellow, and We\n Seized them with Punishment,\n In order that they\n Might turn (to Us).\n49. Waqaloo ya ayyuha alsahiru odAAu lana rabbaka bima AAahida AAindaka innana lamuhtadoona\n49. And they said, \"O thou\n Sorcerer! Invoke thy Lord\n For us according to\n His covenant with thee;\n For we shall truly\n Accept guidance.\"\n50. Falamma kashafna AAanhumu alAAathaba itha hum yankuthoona\n50. But when We removed\n The Penalty from them,\n Behold, they broke their word.\n51. Wanada firAAawnu fee qawmihi qala ya qawmi alaysa lee mulku misra wahathihi al-anharu tajree min tahtee afala tubsiroona\n51. And Pharaoh proclaimed\n Among his people, saying:\n \"O my people! Does not\n The dominion of Egypt\n Belong to me, (witness)\n These streams flowing\n Underneath my (palace)? What!\n See ye not then?\n52. Am ana khayrun min hatha allathee huwa maheenun wala yakadu yubeenu\n52. \"Am I not better\n Than this (Moses), who\n Is a contemptible wretch\n And can scarcely\n Express himself clearly?\n53. Falawla olqiya AAalayhi aswiratun min thahabin aw jaa maAAahu almala-ikatu muqtarineena\n53. \"Then why are not\n Gold bracelets bestowed\n On him, or (why)\n Come (not) with him\n Angels accompanying him\n In procession?\"\n54. Faistakhaffa qawmahu faataAAoohu innahum kanoo qawman fasiqeena\n54. Thus did he make\n Fools of his people,\n And they obeyed him:\n Truly were they a people\n Rebellious (against God).\n55. Falamma asafoona intaqamna minhum faaghraqnahum ajmaAAeena\n55. When at length they\n Provoked Us, We exacted\n Retribution from them, and\n We drowned them all.\n56.
