Noon waalqalami wama yasturoona\n1. N\u016bn. By the Pen\n And by the (Record)\n Which (men) write,\u2014\n2. Ma anta biniAAmati rabbika bimajnoonin\n2. Thou art not,\n By the grace of thy Lord,\n Mad or possessed.\n3. Wa-inna laka laajran ghayra mamnoonin\n3. Nay, verily for thee\n Is a Reward unfailing:\n4. Wa-innaka laAAala khuluqin AAatheemin\n4. And thou (standest)\n On an exalted standard\n Of character.\n5. Soon wilt thou see,\n And they will see,\n6. Which of you is\n Afflicted with madness.\n7. Inna rabbaka huwa aAAlamu biman dalla AAan sabeelihi wahuwa aAAlamu bialmuhtadeena\n7. Verily it is thy Lord\n That knoweth best,\n Which (among men)\n Hath strayed from His Path:\n And He knoweth best\n Those who receive\n (True) Guidance.\n8. Fala tutiAAi almukaththibeena\n8. So hearken not\n To those who\n Deny (the Truth),\n9. Waddoo law tudhinu fayudhinoona\n9. Their desire is that\n Thou shouldst be pliant:\n So would they be pliant.\n10. Wala tutiAA kulla hallafin maheenin\n10. Heed not the type\n Of despicable man,\u2014\n Ready with oaths,\n11. Hammazin mashsha-in binameemin\n11. A slanderer, going about\n With calumnies,\n12. MannaAAin lilkhayri muAAtadin atheemin\n12. (Habitually) hindering (all) good,\n Transgressing beyond bounds,\n Deep in sin,\n13. AAutullin baAAda thalika zaneemin\n13. Violent (and cruel),\u2014\n With all that, base-born,\u2014\n14. An kana tha malin wabaneena\n14. Because he possesses\n Wealth and (numerous) sons.\n15. Itha tutla AAalayhi ayatuna qala asateeru al-awwaleena\n15. When to him are rehearsed\n Our Signs,\n \"Tales of the Ancients\",\n He cries!\n16. Sanasimuhu AAala alkhurtoomi\n16. Soon shall We brand\n (The beast) on the snout!\n17. Inna balawnahum kama balawna as-haba aljannati ith aqsamoo layasrimunnaha musbiheena\n17. Verily We have tried them\n As We tried the People\nOf the Garden,\n When they resolved to gather\n The fruits of the (garden)\n In the morning,\n18. But made no reservation,\n (\"If it be God's Will\").\n19. Fatafa AAalayha ta-ifun min rabbika wahum na-imoona\n19. Then there came\n On the (garden)\n A visitation from thy Lord,\n (Which swept away) all around,\n While they were asleep.\n20. So the (garden) became,\n By the morning, like\n A dark and desolate spot,\n (Whose fruit had been gathered).\n21. As the morning broke,\n They called out,\n One to another,\u2014\n22. Ani ighdoo AAala harthikum in kuntum sarimeena\n22. \"Go ye to your tilth\n (Betimes) in the morning,\nIf ye would gather\n The fruits.\"\n23. Faintalaqoo wahum yatakhafatoona\n23. So they departed, conversing\n In secret low tones, (saying)\u2014\n24. An la yadkhulannaha alyawma AAalaykum miskeenun\n24. \"Let not a single indigent\n Person break in upon you\n Into the (garden) this day.\"\n25. Waghadaw AAala hardin qadireena\n25. And they opened the morning,\n Strong in an (unjust) resolve.\n26. Falamma raawha qaloo inna ladalloona\n26. But when they saw\n The (garden), they said:\n \"We have surely lost our way:\n27. \"Indeed we are shut out\n (Of the fruits of our labour)!\"\n28. Qala awsatuhum alam aqul lakum lawla tusabbihoona\n28. Said one of them,\n More just (than the rest):\n \"Did I not say to you,\n \"Why not glorify (God)?\"\n29. Qaloo subhana rabbina inna kunna thalimeena\n29. They said: \"Glory\n To our Lord! Verily we\n Have been doing wrong!\"\n30. Faaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdin yatalawamoona\n30. Then they turned, one\n Against another, in reproach.\n31. Qaloo ya waylana inna kunna tagheena\n31. They said: \"Alas for us!\n We have indeed transgressed!\n32. AAasa rabbuna an yubdilana khayran minha inna ila rabbina raghiboona\n32. \"It may be that our Lord\n Will give us in exchange\n A better (garden) than this:\n For we do turn to Him\n (In repentance)!\"\n33. Kathalika alAAathabu walaAAathabu al-akhirati akbaru law kanoo yaAAlamoona\n33.
