Iqra/ bi-ismi rabbika allathee khalaqa\n1. Proclaim! (or Read!)\n In the name\n Of thy Lord and Cherisher,\n Who created\u2014\n2. Khalaqa al-insana min AAalaqin\n2. Created man, out of\n A (mere) clot\n Of congealed blood:\n3. Proclaim! And thy Lord\n Is Most Bountiful,\u2014\n4. Allathee AAallama bialqalami\n4. He Who taught\n (The use of) the Pen,\u2014\n5. AAallama al-insana ma lam yaAAlam\n5. Taught man that\n Which he knew not.\n6. Kalla inna al-insana layatgha\n6. Nay, but man doth\n Transgress all bounds,\n7. In that he looketh\n Upon himself as self-sufficient.\n8. Verily, to thy Lord\n Is the return (of all).\n9. Seest thou one\n Who forbids\u2014\n10. A votary when he\n (Turns) to pray?\n11. Araayta in kana AAala alhuda\n11. Seest thou if\n He is on (the road\n Of) Guidance?\u2014\n12. Or enjoins Righteousness?\n13. Araayta in kaththaba watawalla\n13. Seest thou if he\n Denies (Truth) and turns away?\n14. Alam yaAAlam bi-anna Allaha yara\n14. Knoweth he not\n That God doth see?\n15. Kalla la-in lam yantahi lanasfaAAan bialnnasiyati\n15. Let him beware! If he\n Desist not, We will\n Drag him by the forelock,\u2014\n16. Nasiyatin kathibatin khati-atin\n16. A lying, sinful forelock!\n17. Then, let him call\n (For help) to his council\n (Of comrades):\n18. We will call\n On the angels of punishment\n (To deal with him)!\n19. Kalla la tutiAAhu waosjud waiqtarib\n19.
