Praise be to God,\n Who created the heavens\n And the earth,\n And made the Darkness\n And the Light.\n Yet those who reject Faith\n Hold (others) as equal.\n With their Guardian-Lord.\n2. He it is Who created\n You from clay, and then\n Decreed a stated term\n (For you). And there is\n In His Presence another\n Determined term; yet\n Ye doubt within yourselves!\n3. And He is God\n In the heavens\n And on earth.\n He knoweth what ye\n Hide, and what ye reveal,\n And He knoweth\n The (recompense) which\n Ye earn (by your deeds)\n4. But never did a single\n One of the Signs\n Of their Lord reach them,\n But they turned\n Away therefrom.\n5. And now they reject\n The truth when it reaches\n Them: but soon shall they\n Learn the reality of what\n They used to mock at.\n6. See they not how many\n Of those before them\n We did destroy?\u2014\n Generations We had established\n On the earth, in strength\n Such as We have not given\n To you\u2014for whom\n We poured out rain\n From the skies in abundance,\n And gave (fertile) streams\n Flowing beneath their (feet):\n Yet for their sins\n We destroyed them,\n And raised in their wake\n Fresh generations\n (To succeed them).\n7. If We had sent\n Unto thee a written\n (Message) on parchment,\n So that they could\n Touch it with their hands,\n The Unbelievers would\n Have been sure to say:\n \"This is nothing but\nObvious magic!\"\n8. They say: \"Why is not\n An angel sent down to him?\"\n If We did send down\n An angel, the matter\n Would be settled at once,\n And no respite\n Would be granted them.\n9. If We had made it\n An angel, We should\n Have sent him as a man,\n And We should certainly\n Have caused them confusion\n In a matter which they have\n Already covered with confusion.\n10. Mocked were (many)\n Apostles before thee;\n But their scoffers\n Were hemmed in\n By the thing that they mocked.\n11. Say: \"Travel through the earth\n And see what was the end\n Of those who rejected Truth\".\n12. Say: \"To whom I elongeth\n All that is in the heavens\nAnd on earth?\" Say:\n \"To God. He hath inscribed\n For Himself (the rule of) Mercy.\n That He will gather you\n Together for the Day of Judgment,\n There is no doubt whatever.\n It is they who have lost\n Their own souls, that will\n Not believe.\n13. To him belongeth all\n That dwelleth (or lurketh)\n In the Night and the Day.\n For He is the One\n Who heareth and knoweth\n All things.\"\n14. Say: \"Shall I take\n For my protector\n Any other than God,\n The Maker of the heavens\n And the earth?\n And He it is that\n Feedeth but is not fed.\"\n Say: \"Nay! but I am\n Commanded to be the first\n Of those who bow\n To God (in Islam),\n And be not thou\n Of the company of those\n Who join gods with God.\"\n15. Say: \"I would, if I\n Disobeyed my Lord,\n Indeed have fear\n Of the Penalty\n Of a Mighty Day.\n16. \"On that day, if the Penalty\n Is averted from any,\n It is due to God's Mercy;\n And that would be (Salvation),\n The obvious fulfilment\n Of all desire.\n17. \"If God touch thee\n With affliction, none\n Can remove it but He;\n If He touch thee with happiness,\n He hath power over all things.\n18. \"He is the Irresistible, (watching)\n From above over His worshippers;\n And He is the Wise,\n Acquainted with all things.\"\n19. Say: \"What thing is most\n Weighty in evidence?\"\n Say: \"God is witness\n Between me and you;\n This Qur-\u0101n hath been\n Revealed to me by inspiration,\n That I may warn you\n And all whom it reaches.\n Can ye possibly bear witness\n That besides God there is\n Another God?\" Say:\n \"Nay! I cannot bear witness!\"\n Say: But in truth\n He is the One God,\nAnd I truly am innocent\n Of (your blasphemy of) joining\n Others with Him.\"\n20. Those to whom\n We have given the Book\n Know this as they know\n Their own sons.\n Those who have lost\n Their own souls\n Refuse therefore to believe.\n21. Who doth more wrong\n Than he who inventeth\n A lie against God\n Or rejecteth His Signs?\n But verily the wrong-doers\n Never shall prosper.\n22. One day shall We gather\n Them all together: We\n Shall say to those\n Who ascribed partners (to Us):\n \"Where are the partners\n Whom ye (invented\n And) talked about?\"\n23. There will then be (left)\n No subterfuge for them\n But to say: \"By God\n Our Lord, we were not\n Those who joined gods\n With God.\"\n24. Behold! how they lie\n Against their own souls!\nBut the (lie) which they\n Invented will leave themes:\n In the lurch.\n25. Of them there are some\n Who (pretend to) listen to thee;\n But We have thrown\n Veils on their hearts,\n So they understand it not,\n And deafness in their ears;\n If they saw every one\n Of the Signs, not they\n Will believe in them;\n In so much that\n When they come to thee,\n They (but) dispute with thee;\n The Unbelievers say:\n \"These are nothing\n But tales of the ancients.\"\n26. Others they keep away from it,\n And themselves they keep away;\n But they only destroy\n Their own souls,\n And they perceive it not.\n27. If thou couldst but see\n When they are confronted\n With the Fire!\n They will say:\n \"Would that we were\n But sent back!\n Then would we not reject\n The Signs of our Lord,\n But would be amongst those\n Who believe!\"\n28. Yea, in their own (eyes)\n Will become manifest\n What before they concealed.\n But if they were returned,\n They would certainly relapse\n To the things they were forbidden,\nFor they are indeed liars.\n29. And they (sometimes) say:\n \"There is nothing except\n Our life on this earth,\n And never shall we be\n Raised up again.\"\n30. If thou couldst but see\n When they are confronted\n With their Lord!\n He will say:\n \"Is not this the truth?\"\n They will say:\n \"Yea, by our Lord!\"\n He will say:\n \"Taste ye then the Penalty,\n Because ye rejected Faith.\"\n31. Lost indeed are they\n Who treat it as a falsehood\n That they must meet God,\n Until on a sudden\n The hour is on them,\n And they say: \"Ah! woe\n Unto us that we took\n No thought of it\";\n For they bear their burdens\n On their backs,\nAnd evil indeed are\n The burdens that they bear?\n32. What is the life of this world\n But play and amusement? ess\n But best is the Home\n In the Hereafter, for those\n Who are righteous.\n Will ye not then understand?\n33. We know indeed the grief\n Which their words do cause thee:\n It is not thee they reject:\n It is the Signs of God,\n Which the wicked contemn.\n34. Rejected were the Apostles\n Before thee: with patience\n And constancy they bore\n Their rejection and their wrongs,\n Until Our aid did reach\n Them: there is none\n That can alter the Words\n (And Decrees) of God.\n Already hast thou received\n Some account of those Apostles.\n35. If their spurning is hard\n On thy mind, yet if\n Thou wert able to seek\n A tunnel in the ground\n Or a ladder to the skies\n And bring them a Sign,\u2014\n (What good?). If it were\n God's Will, He could\n Gather them together\n Unto true guidance:\nSo be not thou\n Amongst those who are swayed\n By ignorance (and impatience)!\n36. Those who listen (in truth),\n Be sure, will accept:\n As to the dead, God will\n Raise them up; then will they\n Be turned unto Him.\n37. Whey say: \"Why is not\n A Sign sent down\n To him from his Lord?\"\n Say: \"God hath certainly\n Power to send down a Sign:\n But most of them\n Understand not.\"\n38. There is not an animal\n (That lives) on the earth,\n Nor a being that flies\n On its wings, but (forms\n Part of) communities like you.\n Nothing have we omitted\n From the Book, and they (all)\n Shall be gathered to their Lord\n In the end.\n39. Those who reject our Signs\n Are deaf and dumb,\u2014\nIn the midst of darkness\n Profound: whom God willeth,\n He leaveth to wander:\n Whom He willeth, He placeth\n On the Way that is Straight.\n40. Say: \"Think ye to yourselves,\n If there come upon you\n The Wrath of God,\n Or the Hour (that ye dread),\n Would ye then call upon\n Other than God?\u2014\n (Reply) if ye are truthful!\n41. \"Nay,\u2014On Him would ye\n Call, and if it be\n His Will, He would remove\n (The distress) which occasioned\n Your call upon Him,\n And ye would forget\n (The false gods) which ye\n Join with Him!\"\n42. Before thee We sent\n (Apostles) to many nations,\n And We afflicted the nations\n With suffering and adversity,\n That they might learn humility.\n43. When the suffering reached\n Them from Us, why then\n Did they not learn humility?\n On the contrary their hearts\n Became hardened, and Satan\n Made their (sinful) acts\n Seem alluring to them.\n44. But when they forgot\n The warning they had received,\nWe opened to them the gates\n Of all (good) things,\n Until, in the midst\n Of their enjoyment\n Of our gifts,\n On a sudden, We called\n Them to account, when lo!\n They were plunged in despair!\n45. Of the wrong-doers the last\n Remnant was cut off.\n Praise be to God,\n The Cherisher of the Worlds.\n46. Say:\"Think ye, if God\n Took away your hearing\n And your sight, and sealed up\n Your hearts, who\u2014a god\n Other than God\u2014could\n Restore them to you?\"\n See how We explain\n The Signs by various (symbols);\n Yet they turn aside.\n47. Say:\"Think ye, if\n The Punishment of God\n Comes to you,\n Whether suddenly or openly,\n Will any be destroyed\n Except those who do wrong?\n48. We send the apostles\n Only to give good news\nAnd to warn: so those\n Who believe and mend\n (Their lives),\u2014upon them\n Shall be no fear,\n Nor shall they grieve.\n49. But those who reject\n Our Signs,\u2014them\n Shall punishment touch,\n For that they ceased not\n From transgressing.\n50. Say:\"I tell you not\n That with me\n Are the Treasures of God,\n Nor do I know\n What is hidden,\n Nor do I tell you I am\n An angel. I but follow\n What is revealed to me.\"\n Say:\"Can the blind\n Be held equal to the seeing?\"\n Will ye then consider not?\n51. Give this warning to those\n In whose (hearts) is the fear\n That they will be brought\n (To Judgment) before their Lord:\n Except for Him\n They will have no protector\n Nor intercessor:\n That they may guard\n (Against evil).\n52. Send not away those\n Who call on their Lord\n Morning and evening,\n Seeking His Face.\n In naught art thou accountable\n For them, and in naught are they\n Accountable for thee,\n That thou shouldst turn\n Them away, and thus be\n (One) of the unjust.\n53. Thus did We try\n Some of them by comparison\n With others, that they\n Should say:\"Is it these\n Then that God hath\n Favoured from amongst us?\"\n Doth not God know best\n Those who are grateful?\n54. When those come to thee\n Who believe in Our Signs,\n Say: \"Peace be on you:\n Your Lord hath inscribed\n For Himself (the rule\n Of) Mercy: verily,\n If any of you did evil\n In ignorance, and thereafter\nRepented, and amended\n (His conduct), lo! He is\n Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.\n55. Thus do We explain\n The Signs in detail:\n That the way of the sinners\n May be shown up.\n56. Say: \"I am forbidden\n To worship those\u2014others\n Than God\u2014whom ye\n Call upon.\" Say: \"I will\n Not follow your vain desires:\n If I did, I would stray\n From the path, and be not\n Of the company of those\n Who receive guidance.\"\n57. Say; \"For me, I (work)\n On a clear Sign from my Lord,\n But ye reject Him. What ye\n Would see hastened, is not\n In my power. The Command\n Rests with none but God:\n He declares the Truth,\n And He is the best of judges.\"\n58. Say: \"If what ye would see\n Hastened were in my power,\n The matter would be settled\n At once between you and me.\nBut God knoweth best\n Those who do wrong.\"\n59. With Him are the keys\n Of the Unseen, the treasures\n That none knoweth but He.\n He knoweth whatever there is\n On the earth and in the sea.\n Not a leaf doth fall\n But with His knowledge:\n There is not a grain\n In the darkness (or depths)\n Of the earth, nor anything\n Fresh or dry (green or withered),\n But is (inscribed) in a Record\n Clear (to those who can read).\n60. It is He Who doth take\n Your souls by night,\n And hath knowledge of all\n That ye have done by day:\n By day doth He raise\n You up again; that a term\n Appointed be fulfilled;\n In the end unto Him\n Will be your return;\n Then will He show you\n The truth of all\n That ye did.\n61\u1e24e is the Irresistible, (watching)\n From above over His worshippers,\n And He sets guardians \n Over you. At length,\n When death approaches\n One of you, Our angels\n Take his soul, and they\n Never fail in their duty.\n62. Then are men returned\n Unto God, their Protector,\n The (only) Reality:\n Is not His the Command?\n And He is the Swiftest\n In taking account.\n63. Say: \"Who is it\n That delivereth you\n From the dark recesses\n Of land and sea,\n When ye call upon Him\n In humility\nAnd silent terror:\n If He only delivers us\n From these (dangers),\n (We vow) we shall truly\n Show our gratitude?\"\n64. Say: \"It is God\n That delivereth you\n From these and all (other)\n Distresses: and yet\n Ye worship false gods!\"\n65. Say: \"He hath power\n To send calamities\n On you, from above\n And below, or to cover\n You with confusion\n In party strife,\n Giving you a taste\n Of mutual vengeance\u2014\n Each from the other.\"\n See how We explain\n The Signs by various (symbols);\n That they may understand.\n66. But thy people reject\n This, though it is\n The Truth. Say: \"Not mine\n Is the responsibility\n For arranging your affairs;\n67. For every Message\n Is a limit of time,\n And soon shall ye\n Know it.\"\n68. When thou seest men\n Engaged in vain discourse\n About Our Signs, turn\n Away from them unless\n They turn to a different\n Theme. If Satan ever\n Makes thee forget, then\n After recollection, sit not\n Thou in the company\n Of those who do wrong.\n69. On their account\n No responsibility\n Falls on the righteous,\n But (their duty)\n Is to remind them,\n That they may (learn\n To) fear God.\n70. Leave alone those\n Who take their religion\n To be mere play\n And amusement,\n And are deceived\n By the life of this world.\n But proclaim (to them)\n This (truth): that every soul\n Delivers itself to ruin\n By its own acts:\n It will find for itself\n No protector or intercessor\n Except God: if it offered\n Every ransom, (or\n Reparation), none\n Will be accepted: such is\n (The end of) those who\n Deliver themselves to ruin\n By their own acts:\n They will have for drink\n (Only) boiling water,\nAnd for punishment,\n One most grievous:\n For they persisted\n In rejecting God.\n71. Say: \"Shall we indeed\n Call on others besides God,\n Things that can do us\n Neither good nor harm,\u2014\n And turn on our heels\n After receiving guidance\n From God?\u2014like one\n Whom the evil ones\n Have made into a fool,\n Wandering bewildered\n Through the earth, his friends\n Calling 'Come to us',\n (Vainly) guiding him to the Path.\"\nSay: \"God's guidance\n Is the (only) guidance,\n And we have been directed\n To submit ourselves\n To the Lord of the worlds;\u2014\n72. \"To establish regular prayers\n And to fear God:\n For it is to Him\n That we shall be\n Gathered together.\"\n73. It is He Who created\n The heavens and the earth\n In true (proportions):\n The day He saith, \"Be,\"\nBehold! it is. His Word\n Is the Truth. His will be\n The dominion the day\n The trumpet will be blown.\n He knoweth the Unseen\n As well as that which is\n Open. For He\n Is the Wise, well acquainted\n (With all things).\n74. Lo! Abraham said\n To his father \u0100zar:\n \"Takest thou idols for gods?\n For I see thee\n And thy people\n In manifest error.\"\n75. So also did We show\n Abraham the power\n And the laws of the heavens\n And the earth, that he\n Might (with understanding)\n Have certitude.\n76. When the night\n Covered him over,\n He saw a star:\n He said: \"This is my Lord.\"\n But when it set,\n He said: \"I love not\n Those that set.\"\n77. When he saw the moon\n Rising in splendour,\n He said: \"This is my Lord.\"\n But when the moon set,\nHe said: \"Unless my Lord\n Guide me, I shall surely\n Be among those\n Who go astray.\n78. When he saw the sun\n Rising in splendour,\n He said: \"This is my Lord;\n This is the greatest (of all).\"\n But when the sun set,\n He said: \"O my people!\n I am indeed free\n From your (guilt)\n Of giving partners to God.\n79. \"For me, I have set\n My face, firmly and truly,\n Towards Him Who created\n The heavens and the earth,\n And never shall I give\n Partners to God.\"\n80. His people disputed\n With him. He said:\n \"(Come) ye to dispute\n With me, about God,\n When He (Himself)\n Hath guided me?\n I fear not (the beings)\n Ye associate with God:\nUnless my Lord willeth,\n (Nothing can happen).\n My Lord comprehendeth\n In His knowledge all things.\n Will ye not (yourselves)\n Be admonished?\n81. \"How should I fear\n (The beings) ye associate\n With God, when ye\n Fear not to give partners\n To God without any warrant\n Having been given to you?\n Which of (us) two parties\n Hath more right to security?\n (Tell me) if ye know.\n82. \"It is those who believe\n And confuse not their beliefs\n With wrong\u2014that are\n (Truly) in security, for they\n Are on (right) guidance.\"\n83. That was the reasoning\n About Us, which\n We gave to Abraham\n (To use) against his people:\nWe raise whom We will,\n Degree after degree:\n For thy Lord is full\n Of wisdom and knowledge.\n84. We gave him Isaac\n And Jacob: all (three)\n We guided:\n And before him,\n We guided Noah,\n And among his progeny,\n David, Solomon, Job,\n Joseph, Moses, and Aaron:\n Thus do We reward\n Those who do good:\n85. And Zakar\u012bya and John,\n And Jesus and Elias:\n All in the ranks\n Of the Righteous:\n86. And Ism\u0101\u2019\u012bl and Elisha,\n And Jonas, and Lot:\nAnd to all We gave\n Favour above the nations:\n87. (To them) and to their fathers,\n And progeny and brethren:\n We chose them,\n And We guided them\n To a straight Way.\n88. This is the Guidance\n Of God: He giveth\n That guidance to whom\n He pleaseth, of His worshippers.\n If they were to join\n Other gods with Him,\n All that they did\n Would be vain for them,\n89. These were the men\n To whom We gave\n The Book, and Authority,\n And Prophethood: if these\n (Their descendants) reject them,\n Behold! We shall entrust\n Their charge to a new People\n Who reject them not.\n90. Those were the (prophets)\n Who received God's guidance:\n Copy the guidance they received;\n Say: \"No reward for this\n Do I ask of you:\n This is no less than\n A Message for the nations.\"\n91. No just estimate of God\n Do they make when they say:\n\"Nothing doth God send down\n To man (by way of revelation)\":\n Say: \"Who then sent down\n The Book which Moses brought?\u2014\n A light and guidance to man:\n But ye make it into\n (Separate) sheets for show,\n While ye conceal much\n (Of its contents): therein\n Were ye taught that\n Which ye knew not\n Neither ye nor your fathers.\"\n Say: \"God (sent it down)\":\n Then leave them to plunge\n In vain discourse and trifling.\n92. And this is a Book\n Which We have sent down,\n Bringing blessings, and confirming\n (The revelations) which came\n Before it: that thou\n Mayest warn the Mother\n Of Cities and all around her.\n Those who believe\n In the Hereafter\n Believe in this (Book),\n And they are constant\n In guarding their Prayers.\n93. Who can be more wicked\n Than one who inventeth\nA lie against God,\n Or saith, \"I have\n Received inspiration,\"\n When he hath received\n None, or (again) who saith,\n \"I can reveal the like\n Of what God hath revealed\"?\n If thou couldst but see\n How the wicked (do fare)\n In the flood of confusion\n At death!\u2014the angels\n Stretch forth their hands,\n (Saying), \"Yield up your souls:\n This day shall ye receive\n Your reward,\u2014a penalty\n Of shame, for that ye used\n To tell lies against God,\n And scornfully to reject\n Of His Signs!\"\n94. \"And behold! ye come\n To Us bare and alone\n As We created you\n For the first time:\n Ye have left behind you\n All (the favours) which\n We bestowed on you:\n We see not with you\n Your intercessors\n Whom ye thought to be\n Partners in your affairs:\n So now all relations\n Between you have been\n Cut off, and your (pet) fancies\n Have left you in the lurch!\n95. It is God Who causeth\n The seed-grain\n And the date-stone\n To split and sprout.\n He causeth the living\n To issue from the dead,\n And He is the One\n To cause the dead\n To issue from the living.\n That is God: then how\n Are ye deluded\n Away from the truth?\n96. He it is that cleaveth\n The day-break (from the dark):\n He makes the night\n For rest and tranquillity,\n And the sun and moon\n For the reckoning (of time):\n Such is the judgment\n And ordering of (Him),\n The Exalted in Power,\n The Omniscient.\n97. It is He Who maketh\n The stars (as beacons) for you,\n That ye may guide yourselves,\n With their help,\n Through the dark spaces\n Of land and sea:\n We detail Our Signs\n For people who know.\n98. It is He Who hath\n Produced you\n From a single person:\n Here is a place of sojourn\n And a place of departure:\n We detail Our signs\n For people who understand.\n99. It is He Who sendeth down\n Rain from the skies:\n With it We produce\n Vegetation of all kinds:\n From some We produce\n Green (crops), out of which\n We produce grain,\n Heaped up (at harvest);\n Out of the date-palm\n And its sheaths (or spathes)\n (Come) clusters of dates\n Hanging low and near:\n And (then there are) gardens\n Of grapes, and olives,\n And pomegranates,\n Each similar (in kind)\n Yet different (in variety):\n When they begin to bear fruit,\n Feast your eyes with the fruit\n And the ripeness thereof.\n Behold! in these things\n There are Signs for people\n Who believe.\n100.Yet they make\n The Jinns equals\n With God, though God\n Did create the Jinns;\n And they falsely,\n Having no knowledge,\n Attribute to Him\n Sons and daughters.\n Praise and glory be\n To Him! (for He is) above\n What they attribute to Him!\n101. To Him is due\n The primal origin\n Of the heavens and the earth:\n How can He have a son\n When He hath no consort?\n He created all things,\n And He hath full knowledge\n Of all things.\n102. That is God, your Lord!\n There is no god but He,\n The Creator of all things:\n Then worship ye Him:\n And He hath power\n To dispose of all affairs.\n103. No vision can grasp Him,\n But His grasp is over\nAll vision: He is\n Above all comprehension,\n Yet is acquainted with all things.\n104. \"Now have come to you,\n From your Lord, proofs\n (To open your eyes):\n If any will see,\n It will be for (the good\n Of) his own soul;\n If any will be blind,\n It will be to his own\n (Harm): I am not (here)\n To watch over your doings.\n105. Thus do We explain\n The Signs by various (symbols):\n That they may say,\n \"Thou hast taught (us) diligently,\"\n And that We may make\n The matter clear\n To those who know.\n106. Follow what thou art taught\n By inspiration from thy Lord:\n There is no god but He:\n And turn aside from those\n Who join gods with God.\n107. If it had been God's Plan,\n They would not have taken\n False gods: but We\n Made thee not one\n To watch over their doings,\n Nor art thou set\n Over them to dispose\n Of their affairs.\n108. Revile not ye\n Those whom they call upon\n Besides God, lest\n They out of spite\n Revile God\n In their ignorance.\n Thus have We made\n Alluring to each people'\n Its own doings.\n In the end will they\n Return to their Lord,\n And We shall then\nTell them the truth\n Of all that they did.\n109. They swear their strongest\n Oaths by God, that if\n A (special) Sign came\n To them, by it they would\n Believe. Say: \"Certainly\n (All) Signs are in the power\n Of God: but what will\n Make you (Muslims) realise\n That (even) if (special) Signs\n Came, they will not believe.\"?\n110. We (too) shall turn\n To (confusion) their hearts\n And their eyes, even as they\n Refused to believe in this\n In the first instance:\n We shall leave them\n In their trespasses,\n To wander in distraction.\n111. Even if We did send\n Unto them angels,\n And the dead did speak\n Unto them, and We gathered\n Together all things before\n Their very eyes, they are not\n The ones to believe,\n Unless it is in God's Plan.\n But most of them\n Ignore (the truth).\n112. Likewise did We make\n For every Messenger\n An enemy,\u2014evil ones\n Among men and Jinns,\n Inspiring each other\n With flowery discourses\n By way of deception.\n If thy Lord had so planned,\n They would not have\n Done it: so leave them\n And their inventions alone.\n113. To such (deceit)\n Let the hearts of those\n Incline, who have no faith\n In the Hereafter: let them\n Delight in it, and let them\n Earn from it what they may\n114. Say: \"Shall I seek\n For judge other than God?\u2014\n When He it is\n Who hath sent unto you\n The Book, explained in detail.\"\n They know full well,\n To whom We have given\n The Book, that it hath been\n Sent down from thy Lord\n In truth. Never be then\n Of those who doubt.\n115. The Word of thy Lord\n Doth find its fulfilment\n In truth and in justice:\n None can change His Words:\n For He is the one Who\n Heareth and knoweth all.\n116. Wert thou to follow\n The common run of those\n On earth, they will lead\n Thee away from the Way\n Of God. They follow\n Nothing but conjecture: they\n Do nothing but lie.\n117. Thy Lord knoweth best\n Who strayeth from His Way:\n He knoweth best\n Who they are that receive\n His guidance.\n118. So eat of (meats)\n On which God's name\n Hath been pronounced,\n If ye have faith\n In His Signs.\n119. Why should ye not\n Eat of (meats) on which\n God's name hath been\n Pronounced, when He hath\n Explained to you in detail\n What is forbidden to you\u2014\nExcept under compulsion\n Of necessity?\n But many do mislead (men)\n By their appetites unchecked\n By knowledge. Thy Lord\n Knoweth best those who transgress\n120. Eschew all sin,\n Open or secret:\n Those who earn sin\n Will get due recompense\n For their \"earnings.\"\n121. Eat not of (meats)\n On which God's name\n Hath not been pronounced:\n That would be impiety.\n But the evil ones\n Ever inspire their friends\n To contend with you\n If ye were to obey them,\n Ye would indeed be Pagans.\n122. Can he who was dead,\n To whom We gave life,\n And a Light whereby\n He can walk amongst men,\n Be like him who is\n In the depths of darkness,\n From which he can\n Never come out?\n Thus to those without Faith\n Their own deeds seem pleasing.\n123. Thus have We placed\n Leaders in every town,\nIts wicked men, to plot\n (And burrow) therein:\n But they only plot\n Against their own souls,\n And they perceive it not.\n124. When there comes to them\n A Sign (from God),\n They say: \"We shall not\n Believe until we receive\n One (exactly) like those\n Received by God's apostles.\"\n God knoweth best where\n (And how) to carry out\n His mission. Soon\n Will the wicked\n Be overtaken by\n Humiliation before God,\n And a severe punishment,\n For all their plots.\n125. Those whom God (in His Plan)\n Willeth to guide,\u2014He openeth\n Their breast to Islam;\n Those whom He willeth\n To leave straying,\u2014He maketh\n Their breast close and constricted,\n As if they had to climb\n Up to the skies: thus\n Doth God (heap) the penalty\n On those who refuse to believe.\n126. This is the Way\n Of thy Lord, leading straight:\nWe have detailed the Signs\n For those who\n Receive admonition.\n127. For them will be a Home\n Of Peace in the presence\n Of their Lord: He will be\n Their Friend, because\n They practised (righteousness).\n128. One day will He gather\n Them all together, (and say):\n \"O ye assembly of Jinns!\n Much (toll) did ye take\n Of men.\" Their friends\n Amongst men will say:\n \"Our Lord! we made profit no\n From each other: but (alas!)\n We reached our term\u2014\n Which Thou didst appoint\n For us.\" He will say:\n \"The Fire be your dwelling-place:\n You will dwell therein for ever,\n Except as God willeth.\"\n For thy Lord is full\n Of wisdom and knowledge.\n129. Thus do We make\n The wrong-doers turn\n To each other, because\n Of what they earn.\n130. \"O ye assembly of Jinns\n And men! came there not\n Unto you apostles from amongst you\n Setting forth unto you\n My Signs, and warning you\n Of the meeting of this Day\n Of yours?\" They will say:\n \"We bear witness against\n Ourselves.\" It was\n The life of this world\n That deceived them. So\n Against themselves will they\n Bear witness that they\n Rejected Faith.\n131. (The apostles were sent) thus,\n For thy Lord would not\n Destroy for their wrong-doing\n Men's habitations whilst\n Their occupants were unwarned.\n132. To all are degrees (or ranks)\n According to their deeds:\n For thy Lord\n Is not unmindful\n Of anything that they do.\n133. Thy Lord is Self-sufficient,\n Full of Mercy: if it were\n His Will, He could destroy\n You, and in your place\n Appoint whom He will\n As your successors, even as\n He raised you up\n From the posterity\n Of other people.\n134. All that hath been\n Promised unto you\n Will come to pass:\n Nor can ye frustrate it\n (In the least bit).\n135. Say: \"O my people!\n Do whatever ye can:\n I will do (my part):\n Soon will ye know\n Who it is whose end\n Will be (best) in the Hereafter:\n Certain it is that\n The wrong-doers will not prosper.\"\n136. Out of what God\n Hath produced in abundance\n In tilth and in cattle,\n They assigned Him a share:\n They say, according to their fancies:\n \"This is for God, and this\"\u2014\n For Our \"partners\"!\n But the share of their \"partners\"\n Reacheth not God, whilst\n The share of God reacheth\n Their \"partners\"! Evil\n (And unjust) is their assignment!\n137. Even so, in the eyes\n Of most of the Pagans,\n Their \"partners\" made alluring\n The slaughter of their children,\n In order to lead them\n To their own destruction,\n And cause confusion\n In their religion.\n If God had willed,\n They would not have done so:\n But leave alone\n Them and their inventions.\n138. And they say that\n Such and such cattle and crops\n Are taboo, and none should\n Eat of them except those\n Whom\u2014so they say\u2014We\n Wish; further, there are\n Cattle forbidden to yoke\n Or burden, and cattle\n On which, (at slaughter),\n The name of God is not\n Pronounced;\u2014inventions\n Against God's name: soon\n Will He requite them\n For their inventions.\n139. They say: \"What is\n In the wombs of\n Such and such cattle\n Is specially reserved\n (For food) for our men,\n And forbidden to our women;\n But if it is still-born,\n Then all have shares therein.\nFor their (false) attribution\n (Of superstitions to God),\n He will soon punish them:\n For He is full\n Of wisdom and knowledge.\n140. Lost are those who slay\n Their children, from folly,\n Without knowledge, and forbid\n Food which God hath provided\n For them, inventing (lies)\n Against God. They have\n Indeed gone astray\n And heeded no guidance.\n141. It is He who produceth\n Gardens, with trellises\n And without, and dates,\n And tilth with produce\n Of all kinds, and olives\n And pomegranates,\n Similar (in kind)\n And different (in variety):\n Eat of their fruit\n In their season, but render\n The dues that are proper\n On the day that the harvest\n Is gathered. But waste not\n By excess: for God\n Loveth not the wasters.\n142. Of the cattle are some\n For burden and some for meat:\nEat what God hath provided\n For you, and follow not\n The footsteps of Satan:\n For he is to you\n An avowed enemy.\n143. (Take) eight (head of cattle)\n In (four) pairs:\n Of sheep a pair,\n And of goats a pair;\n Say, hath He forbidden\n The two males,\n Or the two females,\n Or (the young) which the wombs\n Of the two females enclose?\n Tell me with knowledge\n If ye are truthful:\n144. Of camels a pair,\n And of oxen a pair;\n Say, hath He forbidden\n The two males,\n Or the two females,\n Or (the young) which the wombs\n Of the two females enclose?\u2014\n Were ye present when God\n Ordered you such a thing?\n But who doth more wrong\n Than one who invents\n A lie against God,\n To lead astray men\n Without knowledge?\n For God guideth not\n People who do wrong\n145. Say: \"I find not\n In the Message received\n By me by inspiration\n Any (meat) forbidden\n To be eaten by one\n Who wishes to eat it,\n Unless it be dead meat,\n Or blood poured forth,\nOr the flesh of swine,\u2014\n For it is an abomination\u2014\n Or, what is impious, (meat)\n On which a name has been\n Invoked, other than God's.\"\n But (even so), if a person\n Is forced by necessity,\n Without wilful disobedience,\n Nor transgressing due limits,\u2014\n Thy Lord is Oft-forgiving,\n Most Merciful.\n146. For those who followed\n The Jewish Law, We forbade\n Every (animal) with\n Undivided hoof,\n And We forbade them\n The fat of the ox\n And the sheep, except\n What adheres to their backs\n Or their entrails,\n Or is mixed up\n With a bone:\n This in recompense\n For their wilful disobedience:\n For We are True\n (In Our ordinances).\n147. If they accuse thee\n Of falsehood, say:\n \"Your Lord is full\n Of mercy all-embracing;\n But from people in guilt\n Never will His wrath\n Be turned back.\n148. Those who give partners\n (To God) will say:\n\"If God had wished,\n We should not have\n Given partners to Him,\n Nor would our fathers;\n Nor should we have had\n Any taboos.\" So did\n Their ancestors argue\n Falsely, until they tasted\n Of Our wrath. Say:\n \"Have ye any (certain)\n Knowledge? If so, produce\n It before us. Ye follow\n Nothing but conjecture:\n Ye do nothing but lie.\"\n149. Say: \"With God is the argument\n That reaches home: if it had\n Been His Will, He could\n Indeed have guided you all.\"\n150. Say: \"Bring forward your witnesses\n To prove that God did\n Forbid so and so.\" If they\n Bring such witnesses,\n Be not thou amongst them:\n Nor follow thou the vain\n Desires of such as treat\n Our Signs as falsehoods,\n And such as believe not\n In the Hereafter: for they\n Hold others as equal\n With their Guardian-Lord.\n151. Say: \"Come, I will rehearse\n What God hath (really)\n Prohibited you from\": join not\n Anything as equal with Him;\n Be good to your parents;\n Kill not your children\n On a plea of want;\u2014We\n Provide sustenance for you\n And for them;\u2014come not\n Nigh to shameful deeds,\n Whether open or secret;\n Take not life, which God\n Hath made sacred, except\n By way of justice and law:\n Thus doth He command you,\n That ye may learn wisdom.\n152. And come not nigh\n To the orphan's property,\n Except to improve it,\n Until he attain the age\n Of full strength; give measure\n And weight with (full) justice;\u2014\n No burden do We place\n On any soul, but that\n Which it can bear;\u2014\n Whenever ye speak, speak justly,\nEven if a near relative\n Is concerned; and fulfil\n The Covenant of God:\n Thus doth He command you,\n That ye may remember.\n153. Verily, this is My Way,\n Leading straight: follow it:\n Follow not (other) paths:\n They will scatter you about\n From His (great) Path:\n Thus doth He command you,\n That ye may be righteous.\n154. Moreover, We gave Moses\n The Book, completing\n (Our favour) to those\n Who would do right,\n And explaining all things\n In detail,\u2014and a guide\n And a mercy, that they\n Might believe in the meeting\n With their Lord.\n155. And this is a Book\n Which We have revealed\n As a blessing: so follow it\n And be righteous, that ye\n May receive mercy:\n156. Lest ye should say:\n \"The Book was sent down\n To two Peoples before us,\n And for our part, we\n Remained unacquainted\nWith all that they learned\n By assiduous study;\"\n157. Or lest ye should say:\n \"If the Book had only\n Been sent down to us,\n We should have followed\n Its guidance better than they.\"\n Now then hath come\n Unto you a Clear (Sign)\n From your Lord,\u2014and a guide\n And a mercy: then who\n Could do more wrong\n Than one who rejecteth\n God's Signs, and turneth\n Away therefrom? In good time\n Shall We requite those\n Who turn away from Our Signs,\n With a dreadful penalty,\n For their turning away.\n158. Are they waiting to see\n If the angels come to them,\n Or thy Lord (Himself),\n Or certain of the Signs\n Of thy Lord!\n The day that certain\n Of the Signs of thy Lord\n Do come, no good\n Will it do to a soul\n To believe in them then,\n If it believed not before\n Nor earned righteousness\n Through its Faith. Say:\n \"Wait ye: we too\n Are waiting.\"\n159. As for those who divide\n Their religion and break up\n Into sects, thou hast\n No part in them in the least:\n Their affair is with God:\n He will in the end\n Tell them the truth\n Of all that they did.\n160. He that doeth good\n Shall have ten times\n As much to his credit:\n He that doeth evil\n Shall only be recompensed\n According to his evil:\n No wrong shall be done\n Unto (any of) them.\n161. Say: \"Verily, my Lord\n Hath guided me to\n A Way that is straight,\u2014\n A religion of right,\n The Path (trod) by Abraham\n The true in faith,\n And he (certainly)\n Joined not gods with God.\"\n162. Say: \"Truly, my prayer\n And my service of sacrifice,\n My life and my death,\n Are (all) for God,\n The Cherisher of the Worlds:\n163. No partner hath He:\n This am I commanded,\n And I am the first\n Of those who bow\n To His Will.\n164. Say: \"Shall I seek\n For (my) Cherisher\nOther than God,\n When He is the Cherisher\n Of all things (that exist)?\n Every soul draws the meed\n Of its acts on none\n But itself: no bearer\n Of burdens can bear\n The burden of another.\n Your goal in the end\n Is towards God: He will tell\n You the truth of the things\n Wherein ye disputed.\"\n165.
