A. L. M. R. These are\n The Signs (or Verses)\n Of the Book: that which\n Hath been revealed unto thee\n From thy Lord is the Truth;\n But most men believe not.\n2. God is He Who raised\n The heavens without any pillars\n That ye can see; is firmly\n Established on the Throne (of Authority);\n He has subjected the sun\n And the moon (to his Law)!\n Each one runs (its course)\n For a term appointed.\n He doth regulate all affairs,\n Explaining the Signs in detail,\nThat ye may believe with certainty\n In the meeting with your Lord.\n3. And it is He Who spread out\n The earth, and set thereon\n Mountains standing firm,\n And (flowing) rivers: and fruit\n Of every kind He made\n In pairs, two and two:\n He draweth the Night as a veil\n O'er the Day. Behold, verily\n In these things there are Signs\n For those who consider!\n4. And in the earth are tracts\n (Diverse though) neighbouring,\n And gardens of vines\n And fields sown with corn,\n And palm trees\u2014growing\n Out of single roots or otherwise:\n Watered with the same water,\n Yet some of them We make\n More excellent than others to eat.\n Behold, verily in these things\nThere are Signs for those\n Who understand!\n5. If thou dost marvel\n (At their want of faith),\n Strange is their saying:\n \"When we are (actually) dust,\n Shall we indeed then be\n In a creation renewed?\" They are\n Those who deny their Lord! They\n Are those round whose necks\n Will be yokes (of servitude):\n They will be Companions\n Of the Fire, to dwell therein\n (For aye)!\n6. They ask thee to hasten on\n The evil in preference to the good:\n Yet have come to pass,\n Before them, (many) exemplary\n Punishments! But verily\n Thy Lord is full of forgiveness\n For mankind for their wrong-doing,\n And verily thy Lord\n Is (also) strict in punishment.\n7. And the Unbelievers say:\n \"Why is not a Sign sent down\n To him from his Lord?\n But thou art truly\nA warner, and to every people\n A guide.\n8. God doth know what\n Every female (womb) doth bear,\n By how much the wombs\n Fall short (of their time\n Or number) or do exceed.\n Every single thing is before\n His sight, in (due) proportion.\n9. He knoweth the Unseen\n And that which is open:\n He is the Great,\n The most High.\n10. It is the same (to Him)\n Whether any of you\n Conceal his speech or\n Declare it openly;\n Whether he lie hid by night\n Or walk forth freely by day.\n11. For each (such person)\n There are (angels) in succession,\n Before and behind him:\n They guard him by command\nOf God. Verily never\n Will God change the condition\n Of a people until they\n Change it themselves\n (With their own souls).\n But when (once) God willeth\n A people's punishment,\n There can be no\n Turning it back, nor\n Will they find, besides Him,\n Any to protect\n12. It is He Who doth show you\n The lightning, by way\n Both of fear and of hope:\n It is He Who doth raise up\n The clouds, heavy\n With (fertilising) rain!\n13. Nay, thunder repeateth His praises,\n And so do the angels, with awe:\n He flingeth the loud-voiced\n Thunder-bolts, and therewith\n He striketh whomsoever He will\u2026\n Yet these (are the men)\n Who (dare to) dispute\n About God, with the strength\n Of His power (supreme)!\n14. For Him (alone) is prayer\n In Truth: any others that they\n Call upon besides Him hear them\n No more than if they were\n To stretch forth their hands\n For water to reach their mouths\n But it reaches them not:\n For the prayer of those\n Without Faith is nothing\n But (futile) wandering (in the mind).\n15. Whatever beings there are\n In the heavens and the earth\n Do prostrate themselves to God\n (Acknowledging subjection),\u2014with good-will\n Or in spite of themselves:\n So do their shadows\n In the mornings and evenings.\n16. Say: \"Who is the Lord and Sustainer\n Of the heavens and the earth?\"\n Say: \"(It is) God.\"\n Say: \"Do ye then take\n (For worship) protectors other\n Than Him, such as have\n No power either for good\n Or for harm to themselves?\"\n Say: \"Are the blind equal\n With those who see?\n Or the depths of darkness\n Equal with Light?\"\n Or do they assign to God\n Partners who have created\n (Anything) as He has created,\n So that the creation seemed\n To them similar?\n Say: \"God is the Creator\n Of all things: He is\n The One, the Supreme and\n Irresistible.\"\n17. He sends down water\n From the sides, and the channels\n Flow, each according to its measure:\n But the torrent bears away\n The foam that mounts up\n To the surface. Even so,\nForm that (ore) which they heat\n In the fire, to make ornaments\n Or utensils therewith,\n There is a scum likewise.\n Thus doth God (by parables)\n Show forth Truth and Vanity.\n For the scum disappears\n Like froth cast out;\n While that which is for the good\n Of mankind remains\n On the earth. Thus doth God\n Set forth parables.\n18. For those who respond\n To their Lord, are (all)\n Good things. But those\n Who respond not to Him,\n Even if they had all\n That is in the heavens\n And on earth, and as much more,\n (In vain) would they offer it\n For ransom. For them\n Will the reckoning be terrible:\n Their abode will be Hell,\u2014\u2014\n What a bed of misery!\n19. Is then one who doth know\n That that which hath been\nRevealed unto thee\n From thy Lord is the Truth,\n Like one who is blind?\n It is those who are\n Endued with understanding\n That receive admonition;\u2014\n20. Those who fulfil the Covenant\n Of God and fail not\n In their plighted word;\n21. Those who join together\n Those things which God\n Hath commanded to be joined,\n Hold their Lord in awe,\n And fear the terrible reckoning;\n22. Those who patiently persevere,\n Seeking the countenance of their Lord;\n Establish regular prayers; spend,\n Out of (the gifts) We have bestowed\n For their sustenance, secretly\n And openly; and turn off Evil\n With good: for such there is\n The final attainment\n Of the (Eternal) Home,\u2014\n23. Gardens of perpetual bliss:\n They shall enter there,\n As well as the righteous\n Among their fathers, their spouses,\nAnd their offspring:\n And angels shall enter unto them\n From every gate (with the salutation):\n24. \"Peace unto you for that ye\n Persevered in patience! Now\n How excellent is the final Home!\"\n25. But those who break\n The Covenant of God, after\n Having plighted their word thereto,\n And cut asunder those things\n Which God has commanded\n To be joined, and work mischief\n In the land;\u2014on them\n Is the Curse; for them\n Is the terrible Home!\n26. God doth enlarge, or grant\n By (strict) measure, the Sustenance\n (Which He giveth) to whomso\n He pleaseth. (The worldly) rejoice\n In the life of this world:\n But the life of this world\n Is but little comfort\n In the Hereafter.\n27. The Unbelievers say: \"Why\n Is not a Sign sent down\n To him from his Lord?\"\n Say: \"Truly God leaveth,\n To stray, whom He will;\n But He guideth to Himself\n Those who turn to Him\n In penitence,\u2014\n28. \"Those who believe, and whose hearts\n Find satisfaction in the remembrance\n Of God: for without doubt\n In the remembrance of God\n Do hearts find satisfaction.\n29. \"For those who believe\n And work righteousness,\n Is (every) blessedness,\n And a beautiful place\n Of (final) return.\"\n30. Thus have We sent thee\n Amongst a People before whom\n (Long since) have (other) Peoples\n (Gone and) passed away;\n In order that thou mightest\n Rehearse unto them what We\n Send down unto thee by inspiration;\nYet do they reject (Him),\n The Most Gracious!\n Say: \"He is my Lord!\n There is no god but He!\n On Him is my trust,\n And to Him do I turn!\"\n31. If there were a Qur-\u0101n\n With which mountains were moved,\n Or the earth were cloven asunder,\n Or the dead were made to speak,\n (This would be the one!)\n But, truly, the Command is\n With God in all things!'\n Do not the Believers know,\n That, had God (so) willed,\n He could have guided\n All mankind (to the Right)?\nBut the Unbelievers,\u2014never\n Will disaster cease to seize\n Them for their (ill) deeds,\n Or to settle close to their homes,\n Until the promise of God\n Come to pass, for, verily,\n God will not fail\n In His promise.\n32. Mocked were (many) apostles\n Before thee: but I granted\n Respite to the Unbelievers,\n And finally I punished them:\n Then how (terrible) was My requital!\n33. Is then He Who standeth\n Over every soul (and knoweth)\n All that it doth,\n (Like any others)? And yet\n They ascribe partners to God.\n Say: \"But name them!\n Is it that ye will\n Inform Him of something\n He knoweth not on earth,\n Or is it (just) a show\n Of words?\" Nay! to those\n Who believe not, their pretence\n seems pleasing, but they are\n Kept back (thereby) from the Path.\n And those whom God leaves\n To stray, no one can guide.\n34. For them is a Penalty\n In the life of this world,\n But harder, truly, is the Penalty\n Of the Hereafter: and defender\n Have they none against God.\n35. The parable of the Garden\n Which the righteous are promised!\u2014\nBeneath it flow rivers:\n Perpetual is the enjoyment thereof\n And the shade therein:\n Such is the End\n Of the Righteous; and the End\n Of Unbelievers is the Fire.\n36. Those to whom We have\n Given the Book rejoice\n At what hath been revealed\n Unto thee: but there are\n Among the clans those who reject\n A part thereof. Say:\n \"I am commanded to worship\n God, and not to join partners\n With Him. Unto him\n Do I call, and\n Unto Him is my return.\"\n37. Thus have We revealed it\n To be a judgment of authority\nIn Arabic. Wert thou to follow\n Their (vain) desires after the knowledge\n Which hath reached thee,\n Then wouldst thou find\n Neither protector nor defender\n Against God.\n38. We did send apostles\n Before thee, and appointed\n For them wives and children:\n And it was never the part\n Of an apostle to bring a Sign\n Except as God permitted\n (Or commanded). For each period\n Is a Book (revealed).\n39. God doth blot out\n Or confirm what He pleaseth:\n With Him is\n The Mother of the Book.\n40. Whether We shall show thee\n (Within thy life-time)\n Part of what We promised them\n Or take to ourselves thy soul\n(Before it is all accomplished),\u2014\n Thy duty is to make\n (The Message) reach them:\n It is Our part\n To call them to account.\n41. See they not that We\n Gradually reduce the land\n (In their control) from its\n Outlying borders ? (Where) God\n Commands, there is none\n To put back His command:\n And He is Swift\n In calling to account.\n42. Those before them did (also)\n Devise plots; but in all things\n The master-planning is God's.\n He knoweth the doings\n Of every soul: and soon\n Will the Unbelievers know\n Who gets home in the End.\n43. The Unbelievers say: \"No apostle\n Art thou.\" Say: \"Enough\n For a witness between me\n And you is God, and such\n As have knowledge of the Book.\"","title":"The Holy Quran: S\u016bra XIII.
