Blessed is He Who\n Sent down the Criterion\n To His Servant, that\n May be an admonition\n To all creatures;\u2014\n2. He to Whom belongs\n The dominion of the heavens\n And the earth: no son\n Has He begotten, nor has He\n A partner in His dominion:\n It is He Who created\n All things, and ordered them\n In due proportions.\n3. Yet have they taken,\n Besides Him, gods that can\n Create nothing but are themselves\n Created; that have no control\n Of hurt or good to themselves;\n Nor can they control Death\n Nor Life nor Resurrection.\n4. But the Misbelievers say:\n \"Naught is this but a lie\n Which he has forged,\n And others have helped him\n At it.\" In truth it is they\n Who have put forward\n An iniquity and a falsehood.\n5. And they say: \"Tales of\n The ancients, which he has caused\n To be written: and they\n Are dictated before him\n Morning and evening.\"\n6. Say: \"The (Qur-\u0101n) was sent down\n By Him Who knows\n The Mystery (that is) in the heavens\n And the earth: verily He\n Is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.\"\n7. find they say: \"What sort\n Of an apostle is this,\n Who eats food, and walks\n Through the streets? Why\n Has not an angel\n Been sent down to him\n To give admonition with him?\n8. \"Or (why) has not a treasure\n Been bestowed on him, or\n Why has he (not) a garden\n For enjoyment?\" The wicked\n Say: \"Ye follow none other\n Than a man bewitched.\"\n9. See what kinds of comparisons\n They make for thee!\n But they have gone astray,\n And never a way will they\n Be able to find!\n10. Blessed is He Who,\n If that were His Will,\n Could give thee better (things)\n Than those,\u2014Gardens beneath which\n Rivers flow; and He could\n Give thee Palaces (secure\n To dwell in).\n11. Nay, they deny the Hour\n (Of the Judgment to come):\n But We have prepared\n A Blazing Fire for such\n As deny the Hour:\n12. When it sees them\n From a place far off,\n They will hear its fury\n And its raging sigh.\n13. And when they are cast,\n Bound together, into a\n Constricted place therein, they\n Will plead for destruction\n There and then!\n14. \"This day plead not\n For a single destruction:\n Plead for destruction oft-repeated!\"\n15. Say: \"Is that best, or\n The eternal Garden, promised\n To the righteous? For them,\n That is a reward as well\n As a goal (of attainment).\n16. \"For them there will be\n Therein all that they wish for:\n They will dwell (there) for aye:\n A promise to be prayed for\n From thy Lord.\"\n17. The Day He will gather\n Them together as well as\n Those whom they worship\n Besides God, He will ask;\n\"Was it ye who led\n These My servants astray,\n Or did they stray\n From the Path themselves?\"\n18. They will say: \"Glory to Thee!\n Not meet was it for us\n That we should take\n For protectors others besides Thee:\n But Thou didst bestow,\n On them and their fathers,\n Good things (in life), until\n They forgot the Message:\n For they were a people\n (Worthless and) lost.\"\n19. (God will say): \"Now\n Have they proved you liars\n In what ye say: so\n Ye cannot avert (your penalty)\n Nor (get) help.\" And whoever\n Among you does wrong,\n Him shall We cause to taste\n Of a grievous Penalty.\n20. And the apostles whom We\n Sent before thee were all\n (Men) who ate food\n And walked through the streets:\n We have made some of you\n As a trial for others:\n Will ye have patience?\n For God is One Who\n Sees (all things).\n21. Such as fear not\n The meeting with Us\n (For Judgment) say:\n \"Why are not the angels\n Sent down to us, or\n (Why) do we not see\n Our Lord?\" Indeed they\n Have an arrogant conceit\n Of themselves, and mighty\n Is the insolence of their impiety!\n22. The Day they see the angels,\u2014\n No joy will there be\n To the sinners that Day:\n The (angels) will say:\n \"There is a barrier\n Forbidden (to you) altogether!\n23: And We shall turn\n To whatever deeds they did\n (In this life), and We shall\n Make such deeds as floating dust\n Scattered about.\n24. The Companions of the Garden\n Will be well, that Day,\n In their abode, and have\n The fairest of places for repose:\n25. The Day the heaven shall be\n Rent asunder with clouds,\n And angels shall be sent down,\n Descending (in ranks),\u2014\n26. That Day, the dominion\n As of right and truth,\n Shall be (wholly) for (God)\n Most Merciful: it will be\n A Day of dire difficulty\n For the Misbelievers.\n27. I the Day that the wrong-doer\n Will bite at his hands,\n He will say, \"Oh! would that\n I had taken a (straight) path\n With the Apostle!\n28. \"Ah! woe is me!\n Would that I had never\n Taken such a one\n For a friend!\n29. \"He did lead me astray\n From the Message (of God)\n After it had come to me!\n Ah! the Evil One is\n But a traitor to man!\nThen the Apostle will say:\n30 \"O my Lord! Truly\n My people took this Qur-\u0101n\n For just foolish nonsense.\"\n31. Thus have We made\n For every prophet an enemy\n Among the sinners: but enough\n Is thy Lord to guide\n And to help.\n32. Whose who reject Faith\n Say: \"Why is not the Qur-\u0101n\n Revealed to him all at once?\n Thus (is it revealed), that We\n May strengthen thy heart\n Thereby, and We have\n Rehearsed it to thee in slow,\n Well-arranged stages, gradually.\n33. And no question do they\n Bring to thee but We\n Reveal to thee the truth\n And the best explanation (thereof),\n34. Whose who will be gathered\n To Hell (prone) on their faces,\u2014\n They will be in an evil\n Plight, and, as to Path,\n Most astray.\n35. (Before this,) We sent Moses\n The Book, and appointed\n His brother Aaron with him\n As Minister;\n36. And We commanded: \"Go ye\n Both, to the people who\n Have rejected our Signs:\"\n And those (people) We destroyed\n With utter destruction.\n37. And the people of Noah,\u2014\n When they rejected the apostles,\n We drowned them,\n And We made them\n As a Sign for mankind;\n And We have prepared\n For (all) wrong-doers\n A grievous Penalty;\u2014\n38. As also \u2019Ad and Tham\u016bd,\n And the Companions\nOf the Rass, and many\n A generation between them.\n39. To each one We set forth\n Parables and examples;\n And each one We broke\n To utter annihilation\n (For their sins).\n40. And the (Unbelievers) must indeed\n Have passed by the town\n On which was rained\n A shower of evil: did they not\n Then see it (with their own\n Eyes)? But they fear not\n The Resurrection.\n41. When they see thee,\n They treat thee no otherwise\n Than in mockery: \"Is this\n The one whom God has sent\n As an apostle?\"\n42. \"He indeed would well-nigh\n Have misled us from\n Our gods, had it not been\n That we were constant\n To them!\"\u2014Soon will they\n Know, when they see\n The Penalty, who it is\n That is most misled\n In Path!\n43. Seest thou such a one\n As taketh for his god\n His own passion (or impulse)?\n Couldst thou be a disposer\n Of affairs for him?\n44. Or thinkest thou that most\n Of them listen or understand?\n They are only like cattle;\u2014\n Nay, they are worse astray\n In Path.\n45. Hast thou not turned\n Thy vision to thy Lord?\u2014\n How He doth prolong\n The Shadow! If He willed,\n He could make it stationary!\n Then do We make\n The sun its guide;\n46. Then We draw it in\n Towards Ourselves,\n A contraction by easy stages.\n47. And He it is Who makes\n The Night as a Robe\n For you, and Sleep as Repose,\n And makes the Day\n (As it were) a Resurrection.\n48. And He it is Who sends\n The Winds as heralds\n Of glad tidings, going before\n His Mercy, and We send down\nPure water from the sky,\u2014\n49. That with it We may give\n Life to a dead land,\n And slake the thirst\n Of things We have created,\u2014\n Cattle and men in great numbers.\n50. And We have distributed\n The (water) amongst them, in order\n That they may celebrate\n (Our) praises, but most men\n Are averse (to aught) but\n (Rank) ingratitude.\n51. Had it been Our Will,\n We could have sent\n A warner to every centre\n Of population.\n52. Therefore listen not\n To the Unbelievers, but strive\nAgainst them with the utmost\n Strenuousness, with the (Qur-\u0101n).\n53. It is He Who has\n Let free the two bodies\n Of flowing water:\n One palatable and sweet,\n And the other salt\n And hitter; yet has He\n Made a barrier between them,\n A partition that is forbidden\n To be passed.\n54. It is He Who has\n Created man from water:\n Then has He established\n Relationships of lineage\nAnd marriage: for thy Lord\n Has power (over all things).\n55. Yet do they worship,\n Besides God, things that can\n Neither profit them nor\n Harm them: and the Misbeliever\n Is a helper (of Evil),\n Against his own Lord!\n56. But thee We only sent\n To give glad tidings\n And admonition.\n57. Say: \"No reward do I\n Ask of you for it but this:\n That each one who will\n May take a (straight) Path\n To his Lord.\"\n58. And put thy trust\n In Him Who lives\n And dies not; and celebrate\n His praise; and enough is He\n To be acquainted with\n The faults of His servants;\u2014\n59. He Who created the heavens\n And the earth and all\n That is between, in six days,\n And is firmly established\n On the Throne (of authority):\n God Most Gracious:\n Ask thou, then, about Him\n Of any acquainted (with such things).\n60. When it is said to them,\n \"Adore ye (God) Most Gracious!\",\n They say, \"And what is (God)\n Most Gracious? Shall we adore\n That which thou commandest us?\"\n And it increases their flight\n (From the Truth).\n61. Blessed is He Who made\n Constellations in the skies,\n And placed therein a Lamp\n And a Moon giving light;\n62. And it is He Who made\n The Night and the Day\n To follow each other:\n For such as have the will\n To celebrate His praises\n Or to show their gratitude.\n63. And the servants of (God)\n Most Gracious are those\n Who walk on the earth\n In humility, and when the ignorant\n Address them, they say,\n \"Peace!\";\n64. Those who spend the night\n In adoration of their Lord\n Prostrate and standing;\n65. Those who say, \"Our Lord!\n Avert from us the Wrath\n Of Hell, for its Wrath\n Is indeed an affliction grievous,\u2014\n66. \"Evil indeed is it\n As an abode, and as\n A place to rest in\";\n67. Those who, when they spend,\n Are not extravagant and not\n Niggardly, but hold a just (balance)\n Between those (extremes);\n68. Those who invoke not,\n With God, any other god,\n Nor slay such life as God\n Has made sacred, except\n For just cause, nor commit\n Fornication;\u2014and any that does\n This (not only) meets punishment\n69. (But) the Penalty on the Day\n Of Judgment will be doubled\n To him, and he will dwell\n Therein in ignominy,\u2014\n70. Unless he repents, believes,\n And works righteous deeds,\n For God will change\n The evil of such persons\n Into good, and God is\n Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful,\n71. And whoever repents and does good\n Has truly turned to God\n With an (acceptable) conversion;\u2014\n72. Those who witness no falsehood;\n And, if they pass by futility,\n They pass by it\n With honourable (avoidance);\n73. Those who, when they are\n Admonished with the Signs\n Of their Lord, droop not down\n At them as if they were\n Deaf or blind;\n74. And these who pray,\n \"Our Lord! Grant unto us\n Wives and offspring who will be\n The comfort of our eyes,\nAnd give us (the grace)\n To lead the righteous.\"\n75. Those are the ones who\n Will be rewarded with\n The highest place in heaven,\n Because of their patient constancy:\n Therein shall they be met\n With salutations and peace,\n76. Dwelling therein;\u2014how beautiful\n An abode and place of rest!\n77. Say (to the Rejecters):\n \"My Lord is not uneasy\n Because of you if ye call not on Him\n But ye have indeed rejected\n (Him), and soon will come\n The inevitable (punishment)!\"","title":"The Holy Quran: S\u016bra XXV.
