Praise be to God,\n To Whom belong all things\n In the heavens and on earth:\n To Him be Praise\n In the Hereafter:\n And He is Full of Wisdom,\n Acquainted with all things.\n2. He knows all that goes\n Into the earth, and all that\n Comes out thereof; all that\n Comes down from the sky\n And all that ascends thereto\n And He is the Most Merciful,\n The Oft-Forgiving.\n3. The Unbelievers say,\n \"Never to us will come\nThe Hour\": say, \"Nay!\n But most surely,\n By my Lord, it will come\n Upon you;\u2014by Him\n Who knows the unseen,\u2014\n From Whom is not hidden\n The least little atom\n In the Heavens or on earth:\n Nor is there anything less\n Than that, or greater, but\n Is in the Record Perspicuous:\n4. That He may reward\n Those who believe and work\n Deeds of righteousness: for such\n Is Forgiveness and a Sustenance\n Most Generous.\"\n5. But those who strive\n Against Our Signs, to frustrate\n Them,\u2014for such will be\n A Penalty,\u2014a Punishment\n Most humiliating.\n6. And those to whom\n Knowledge has come see\n That the (Revelation) sent down\n To thee from thy Lord\u2014\n That is the Truth,\n And that it guides\nTo the Path of the Exalted\n (In Might), Worthy\n Of all praise.\n7. The Unbelievers say\n (In ridicule): \"Shall we\n Point out to you a man\n That will tell you,\n When ye are all scattered\n To pieces in disintegration,\n That ye shall (then be\n Raised) in a New Creation?\n8. \"Has he invented a falsehood\n Against God, or has\n A spirit (seized) him?\"\u2014\n Nay, it is those who\n Believe not in the Hereafter,\n That are in (real) Penalty,\n And in farthest Error.\n9. See they not what is\n Before them and behind them,\n Of the sky and the earth\n If We wished, We could\n Cause the earth to swallow\n Them up, or cause a piece\n Of the sky to fall upon them.\n Verily in this is a Sign\n For every devotee that\n Turns to God (in repentance).\n10. We bestowed Grace aforetime\n On David from Ourselves:\n \"O ye Mountains! sing ye\n Back the Praises of God\n With him! and ye birds\n (Also)! And We made\n The iron soft for him;\u2014\n11. (Commanding), \"Make thou\n Coats of mail, balancing well\n The rings of chain armour,\n And work ye righteousness;\n For be sure I see\n (Clearly) all that ye do.\"\n12. And to Solomon (We\n Made) the Wind (obedient):\n Its early morning (stride)\n Was a month's (journey),\n And its evening (stride)\n Was a month's (journey);\n And We made a Font\n Of molten brass to flow\nFor him; and there were\n Jinns that worked in front\n Of him, by the leave\n Of his Lord, and if any\n Of them turned aside\n From Our command, We\n Made him taste\n Of the Penalty\n Of the Blazing Fire.\n13. They worked for him\n As he desired, (making) Arches,\n Images, Basons\n As large as Reservoirs,\n And (cooking) Cauldrons fixed\n (In their places): \"Work ye,\n Sons of David, with thanks!\n But few of My servants\n Are grateful!\"\n14. Then, when We decreed\n (Solomon's) death, nothing showed them\n His death except a little\n Worm of the earth, which\nKept (slowly) gnawing away\n At his staff: so when he\n Fell down, the Jinns saw\n Plainly that if they had\n Known the unseen, they\n Would not have tarried\n In the humiliating Penalty\n (Of their Task).\n15. There was, for Sab\u0101,\n Aforetime, a Sign in their\n Home-land\u2014two Gardens\n To the right and to the left.\n \"Eat of the Sustenance (provided)\n By your Lord, and be grateful\n To Him: a territory fair and happy,\n And a Lord Oft-Forgiving!\n16. But they turned away\n (From God), and We sent\n Against them the flood\n (Released) from the Dams,\nAnd We converted their two\n Garden (rows) into \"gardens\"\n Producing bitter fruit,\n And tamarisks, and some few\n (Stunted) Lote-trees.\n17. That was the Requital\n We gave them because\n They ungratefully rejected Faith:\n And never do We give\n (Such) requital except to such\n As are ungrateful rejecters.\n18. Between them and the Cities\n On which We had poured\n Our blessings, We had placed\n Cities in prominent positions,\n And between them We had\n Appointed stages of journey\n In due proportion: \"Travel therein,\n Secure, by night and by day.\"\n19. But they said: \"Our Lord!\n Place longer distances\nBetween our journey-stages\":\n But they wronged themselves (therein).\n At length We made them\n As a tale (that is told),\n And We dispersed them\n All in scattered fragments.\n Verily in this are Signs\n For every (soul that is)\n Patiently constant and grateful.\n20. And on them did Satan\n Prove true his idea,\n And they followed him, all\n But a Party that believed.\n21. But he had no authority\n Over them,\u2014except that We\n Might test the man who\n Believes in the Hereafter\n From him who is in doubt\n Concerning it: and thy Lord\n Doth watch over all things.\n22. Say: \"Call upon other (gods)\n Whom ye fancy, besides God:\n They have no power,\n Not the weight of an atom,\u2014\n In the heavens or on earth:\n No (sort of) share have they\n Therein, nor is any of them\n A helper to God.\n23. \"No intercession can avail\n In His Presence, except for those\n For whom He has granted\n Permission. So far (is this\n The case) that, when terror\n Is removed from their hearts\n (At the Day of Judgment, then)\n Will they say, \"What is it\n That your Lord commanded?\"\n They will say, \"That which is\n True and just; and He is\n The Most High, Most Great.\"\n24. Say: \"Who gives you\n Sustenance, from the heavens\nAnd the earth?\" Say:\n \"It is God; and certain it is\n That either we or ye\n Are on right guidance\n Or in manifest error!\"\n25. Say: \"Ye shall not be\n Questioned as to our sins,\n Nor shall we be questioned\n As to what ye do.\"\n26. Say: \"Our Lord will gather us\n Together and will in the end\n Decide the matter between us\n (And you) in truth and justice:\n And He is the One to decide,\n The One Who knows all.\"\n27. Say: \"Show me those whom\n Ye have joined with Him\n As partners: by no means\n (Can ye). Nay, He is God,\n The Exalted in Power,\n The Wise.\"\n28. We have not sent thee\n But as a universal (Messenger)\nTo men, giving them\n Glad tidings, and warning them\n (Against sin), but most men\n Understand not.\n29. They say: \"When will this\n Promise (come to pass)\n If ye are telling the truth?\"\n30. Say: \"The appointment to you\n Is for a Day, which ye\n Cannot put back for an hour\n Nor put forward.\"\n31. The Unbelievers say:\n \"We shall neither believe\n In this scripture nor in (any)\n That (came) before it.\"\n Couldst thou but see when\n The wrong-doers will be made\n To stand before their Lord,\n Throwing back the word (of blame)\nOn one another! Those who\n Had been despised will say\n To the arrogant ones:\n \"Had it not been for you,\n We should certainly\n Have been believers!\"\n32. The arrogant ones will say\n To those who had been despised:\n \"Was it we who kept you\n Back from Guidance after\n It reached you? Nay, rather,\n It was ye who transgressed.\n33. Those who had been despised\n Will say to the arrogant ones:\n \"Nay! it was a plot\n (Of yours) by day and by night:\n Behold! ye (constantly) ordered us\n To be ungrateful to God\n And to attribute equals to Him!\n They will declare (their) repentance\n When they see the Penalty:\n We shall put yokes\nOn the necks of the Unbelievers:\n It would only be a requital\n For their (ill) Deeds.\n34. Never did We send\n A Warner to a population,\n But the wealthy ones among them\n Said: \"We believe not\n In the (Message) with which\n Ye have been sent.\"\n35. They said: \"We have more\n In wealth and in sons\n And we cannot be punished.\"\n36. Say: \"Verily my Lord enlarges\n And restricts the Provision\n To whom He pleases, but\n Most men understand not.\"\n37. It is not your wealth\n Nor your sons, that will\n Bring you nearer to Us\n In degree: but only\n Those who believe and work\n Righteousness\u2014these are\n The ones for whom there is\n A multiplied Reward\nFor their deeds, while\n Secure they (reside)\n In the dwellings on high!\n38. Those who strive against\n Our Signs, to frustrate them,\n Will be given over\n Into Punishment.\n39. Say: \"Verily my Lord enlarges\n And restricts the Sustenance\n To such of His servants\n As He pleases: and nothing\n Do ye spend in the least\n (In His Cause) but He\n Replaces it: for He is\n The Best of those who\n Grant Sustenance.\n40. One Day He will\n Gather them all together,\n And say to the angels,\n \"Was it you that these\n Men used to worship?\"\n41. They will say, \"Glory to Thee!\n Our (tie) is with Thee\n As Protector\u2014not with them.\n Nay, but they worshipped\nThe Jinns: most of them\n Believed in them.\"\n42. So on that Day\n No power shall they have\n Over each other, for profit\n Or harm: and We shall\n Say to the wrong-doers,\n \"Taste ye the Penalty's\n Of the Fire,\u2014the which\n Ye were wont to deny!\"\n43. When Our Clear Signs\n Are rehearsed to them,\n They say, \"This is only\n A man who wishes\n To hinder you from the (worship)\n Which your fathers practised.\"\n And they say, \"This is\n Only a falsehood invented!\"\n And the Unbelievers say\n Of the Truth when it comes\n To them, \"This is nothing\n But evident magic!\"\n44. But We had not given\n Them Books which they could\n Study, nor sent apostles\n To them before thee\n As Warners.\n45. And their predecessors rejected\n (The Truth); these have\n Not received a tenth\n Of what We had granted\n To those: yet when they rejected\n My apostles, how (terrible)\n Was My rejection (of them)!\n46. Say: \"I do admonish you\n On one point: that ye\n Do stand up before God,\u2014\n (It may be) in pairs,\n Or (it may be) singly,\u2014\n And reflect (within yourselves):\n Your Companion is not\n Possessed: he is no less\n Than a Warner to you,\n In face of a terrible\n Penalty.\"\n47. Say: \"No reward do I\n Ask of you: it is (all)\n In your interest: my reward\n Is only due from God:\n And He is Witness\n To all things.\"\n48. Say: \"Verily my Lord\n Doth cast the (mantle\nOf) Truth (over His servants),\u2014\n He that has full knowledge\n Of (all) that is hidden.\"\n49. Say: \"The Truth has arrived,\n And Falsehood neither creates\n Anything new, nor restores\n Anything.\"\n50. Say: \"If I am astray,\n I only stray to the loss\n Of my own soul: but if\n I receive guidance, it is seen\n Because of the inspiration\n Of my Lord to me:\n It is He Who hears\n All things, and is (ever) near.\"\n51. If thou couldst but see\n When they will quake\n With terror; but then\n There will be no escape\n (For them), and they will he\n Seized from a position\n (Quite) near.\n52. And they will say,\n \"We do believe (now)\n In the (Truth)\"; but how\n Could they receive (Faith)\n From a position (so) far off,\u2014\n53. Seeing that they did reject\n Faith (entirely) before, and\n That they (continually) cast\n (Slanders) on the Unseen\n From a position far off?\n54. And between them\n And their desires,\n Is placed a barrier,\n As was done in the past\n With their partisans:\n For they were indeed\n In suspicious (disquieting) doubt.","title":"The Holy Quran: S\u016bra XXXIV.
